Zeus

Location: Wellington, New Zealand

ZeusZeus will only drink out of a striped glass and will only sleep under the blankets in bed! He got hit by a car about 1 month after this photo was taken. He is ok now though - all his fur has grown back.

We had some basement/rec room water, but after 3 other times, we learned how to use outdoor carpet with no pads, and have 2 sump pumps, so this time don’t anticipate major issues long term. We are in Belle Mead (Montgomery twnshp), and were isolated by flooded creeks, streams and rivers. Prayers and good thoughts for Manville, and Boundbrook, though. Shelters were opened, and this year there were shelters that took pets!!! Last major flood (Floyd), a friend who opened her homes for pets displaced by flooding was prosecuted for operating a kennel w/o a license.

Hi neighbor. It is sure a small world. It’s hard to believe we get so stranded here, isn’t it? They keep fixing bridges, and the new ones keep flooding too. We’re walking distance to the Mill Pond, and my son said he thought the bridge at the Mill Pond was damaged again. Drat.

We live right down Dead Tree Road from Mill Pond. When I drove by yesterday they had concrete barriers up, so it looks like that bridge will be closed for a while.

ARGH! Last time it took forever for Dead tree Rd to reopen from Bridgepoint. Then it was made one way. Sorry about the not-cat conversation, but every flood, this darned bridge gets wrecked by a floating tree or something else. Even cats can’t get across the road.

Me and my fuzzy boys are up in the mountains (I work down in the flooded valley), but with all the trees sitting in water, we were ready in case of emergency. I was also prepared to take in my sister’s kitties since she was flooded. Fortunately, it didn’t get to that point…

I’m glad for you, and your sister. Here, we mostly don’t need to evacuate, but if the power goes off too, and the sump pumps don’t work, then all bets are off. This storm, we kept our power here in Belle Mead.

I have allergies, too, but Bob is worth every sniffle and itchy eye - he hates it when he’s getting all ready to go to sleep next to his Mommy and I start sneezing or have to get up a few times to blow my nose. Little does he know it’s actually his fault!
Has anyone tried the new “Febreze” (I think) allergen reducer spray? They say it’s supposed to reduce allergens by up to 75% - hey, if it was just 25%, It’d be worth it!

Hi Great Dane. I have used the allergen reducer w/remarkable success. I have six fuzzbutts indoors & it’s a relief to know that it’s not toxic to animals. If I’m in a pinch w/not enuf time to clean their duty boxes,I just spray around the box & directly on the litter & it works wonders. You can use that stuff just about anywhere. On the bedding, the rugs, walls, you name it. Hope it helps

Thanks for the help. Bob does get a bed evey week or two, and he’s as okay with it as he’s going to get. I haven’t noticed thim shedding, so maybe the baths do help with that.
I’m going to stop at the store on my way home today and get some of the allergenreducer spray - sounds like it’s worth a try!

Speaking of food—I’m not too crazy about Bennigan’s, but I tried their new dessert: Bananas Foster Xango–it was fantastic!! The cheesecake in pastry is served warm–over the ice cream– I can’t find a pic of it, but here is a company blurb…

The menu also features a new dessert, Bananas Foster Xango, the latest creation from Bennigan’s culinary innovator Tony Davidson.

“Bennigan’s desserts are a signature part of our menu and the Bananas Foster Xango is no exception,” said Davidson. “It’s original and banana cheesecake served in a pastry with classic bananas foster sauce, banana and vanilla ice cream, sliced bananas and caramel.”

What a beautiful wild looking boy.

Question: Can cats suffer from seasonal allergies? My Gracie has been sneezing her head off. No fever, no congestion and no snot. I recently brought a lot of potted petunias and daffodils into the house and I wonder if he is allergic to them. They are going out into the yard this afternoon. Anyone else have experience with this?

**Too Many Cats**
April 17, 2007

Having more than one cat is usually a good idea: The cats play, stalk, snuggle, and otherwise entertain each other. On the other hand, having too many cats is a problem. The A.S.P.C.A. defines hoarding (also known as collecting) as an obsessive-compulsive disorder that can lead to the neglect or death of pets. Unfortunately, hoarders are typically in denial about the severity of the problem and may benefit from counseling. Contact a healthcare professional for advice on how to deal with this issue.

2007-04-18 18:59:15

Speaking of both recalls and croissants, the news today about a new contaminant means we all should be taking a very hard look at federal policy on both food inspection and trade with China. Here’s an excerpt with a link and a properly outraged comment from my brother’s blog (he who has 12 cats, vs. my 7):
http://www.evanmorris.com/weblog/2007/04/bon_appetit.html
He’s keeping on top of the recall news, and following the investigation and policy implications, closer than almost anybody. So this isn’t just blogwhoring (pardon the expression).

As for Zeus: Hooray for Stripey! I have 2 striped tabbies (one grey, one creamsickle), 1 blotched (grey), and two blotched “hybrids” — a mostly-white Peachpoint Tabbanese and a dark chocolate BurmaTab. They’re all rescues, none related to the others, but they think of themselves as a tribe. I think of them as a thundering herd. They’re all (neutered) boys — we call them the Lost Boys — and their two senior aunties think they’re mainly a pain.

Zeus’ people are double lucky: a great kitty to begin with, and a second chance after that accident. Long live Zeus the mighty tabby!

**Senior Kicks Police Car, Punches Officer When Ticketed**

KENORA, Ontario — That was one grumpy old man.

An Ontario Provincial Police officer got more than he bargained for when he pulled over an 85-year-old driver on the weekend.

Police say they were on the lookout for a vehicle with expired plates when they spotted it east of Kenora, in northwestern Ontario.

When the elderly driver learned he was getting a ticket, he began kicking the police cruiser.

And when he was told his vehicle would have to be towed, he punched the officer in the chest and pushed him.

The man also kicked the officer while he was being arrested and placed in the back of the cruiser.

He was later “released unconditionally” to relatives but faces a charge of driving without valid plates.
