Capitol Hill Kittens
Location: Washington DC, USA
These kittens were rescued by a local organization, Metro Ferals, and are being fostered by a friend of mine. Bonus - I get to play with them all I want to get them used to being around people. They are just adorable.

OMG!!! they are wonderful!!! Love them!
They are ADORABLE!!!!
hey everyone now on catster is my new baby kitten 4 days old,his catster site is just a click on my name.
What sweeties in their hammock. And Elaine your new baby is precious. Many happy years together.
She’s so tiny!
or he
I love their little hammock! They may not all be littermates but looks like they have happily adopted each other as brothers and sisters.
Or else the milkman got involved!
Or the postman.
Gee, the one on the left makes me think of the UPS guy from “Legally Blonde.” Maybe it’s the pain meds…
or the local frigidare salesweasel.
I’m told the Maytag repairman is really lonely. Maybe it was him!
Some people have all the luck!
Love that cross-looking little tabby.
A hammock full-o-fun! Oooh, I want to cuddle and wuzzle all three of them!
hahaha - how cute?!?!? It took me awhile to see 3 sets of beautiful eyes!
I am having a lousy day today…But after looking at these kittens, the day is a little better…
Well, here, you can have one for your backpack, I’ll take one for mine, and there’s still one left over for Huddy’s Mama.
*shuffles in and quietly takes the left over kitty*
*leaves note explaining that it was too much of a temptation*
*Quickly slips left over kitten away from Pipa’s mum while she’s writing her explanatory note to HM*
My kitty now!!!
Wow!
Gotta be honest…
I didn’t even hear you comming Amy
*sniffle*
Awww…. now you’re making me feel guilty. Let’s just share this one! We’ll go out for lattes and have play time with the kitty!
Oh Cheri,
I am so sorry you are having a bad day. Hugs and purrsss to you sweetie. Hoping your day goes better right away!
Cheri, are you having a lousy day because it’s raining ?down here in Deposit,N.Y. it’s pouring.(20 minutes away from you)
No, it’s a case of “some days I wake up Grumpy, some days i let him sleep, except that i am the only person…
Hugs and purrs to you Cheri. I am sorry you are having a bad day. I had that bad day on Sunday with a huge argument with the hubby. I tell you, I take my cat Sylvester over men any day! How about a nice mocha and chocolate croissant. (actually I am eating one of those “Luna Bars”. Nutz over Chocolate is the flavor.
me too ,i’ll take my cats over my ex any day too.
Amen to that!!
Sorry to hear about your day being, not so great! I feel your pain believe me! Had one whole week of them last week. Kitties are great theropy. And I have a solution to the lack of kitties problem we seem to be having-I’ll just pack the kitty from yesturday!
*slips back one page and grabs Pufi*
Hope your day gets better Cheri. Try to make it a priority to make some time for you today, even just a short time to breathe and appreciate life. You are on the right track, though, by checking in on these adorable kittens.
Chin up, dear. You are in my prayers.
Hi Cheri-Hope your day gets better. There are lots of kittehs here to make you feel better:)
I know what you mean, Cheri. I’m not having the best day either. I came to the daily kitten to perk myself up! Love those little kitties.
Hi Cheri, I’m sorry you’re having a bad day. When my “grump” comes out I go right to the Daily Kitten. Never fails to brighten my day and bring a smile to my face, not to mention all the awesome people who post here. Hope tomorrow is better for you!
This is the best way to start the day: looking at these beautiful kittens. Lots of belly rubs to them.
Oh, these babies are just too adorable!
Good morning all my TDK friends!! HAPPY Tuesday!!
Oh, my goodness….a hammock packed full of adorable kittens…sweet! I just want to cuddle & kiss them.
Those babies are so beautiful…are those two really himilayans?
Bless you and your friend for taking such care to make sure they grow up healthy and well-adjusted!
OOOO, a hammock full of beautiful kittens! Great picture and sweet little faces, I’m kinda partial to the tabby.
Hello again, neighbor!
Hiya fellow Maryland-er!
I haven’t heard of Metro Ferals before. What do they do?
Click on the link. They look like a great organization. What a bunch of little beauties! Looks like someone dumped a Himalayan–can’t imagine how they could let go of such a gorgeous cat. Those kitties will be adopted in no time.
I did look at the site. Just wondered if anyone else had ever heard of them…
I haven’t head of them either LG, probably because they’re in Virginia. But it sounds like they do good work and I’m glad they’re around.
They were mentioned in the book I recommended yesterday, “An Unlikely Cat Lady”. At the end of the book, the author, Nina Malkin, included a list of several TNR groups throughout the country, and Metro Ferals was one of them.
These are just too cute for words. *In a trance staring at those blue eyes* You are so lucky to get to work with them. It’s an honorable job and a pretty darn fun one, too!
We (my daughter and I) fought over who got to play with Charlie when he was the new kitten, now over a year old. Strangely, Charlie still sleeps with her sometimes after all the rough-housing he gets from her. Gentle soul, that Charlie is.
Happy Tuesday, ya’ll. I missed HM and her backpack/pitchfork yesterday. I hope everything’s alright.
the one on the left makes me want to sing “Which one of these things is not like the others? Which one of these things is not the same?”
Too CUTE!
That was my first thought too! Dang, now I’m going to have to come up with a different poem. Original idea:
One of these kits
Is not like the others
Methinks just maybe
They have different mothers
But it doesn’t matter
They’ve decided to be brothers
I would keep them all
If I had my druthers
But my backpack is not quick
and they have wound up in another’s
Wow, Meezermama, you good!
I’m having a vision of Elmo singing your poem!
This is the song
La la la
Elmo’s song
la la la
la la la
Elmo’s song……
Yeah, my son is 8 now.
Encore! Author! Author!
there is another down the list. Thanks! its fun that everyone likes my silliness so much
Here, MM. I’ll share my kitten with you (removes the furrball from backpack and gently hands the kitten over).
Hooray!!
Oooh! A trio of feline fine-ness!
Thanks for the oops! notice on the catster posting. It’s fixed now. Friend responses to follow!
Let’s try this Catster link one more time. Sorry folks, my computer knowledge is strictly on the PhD level: “Push here, Dummy!”
If you look up the word “luddite” in the dictionary, you’ll find my picture.
Please let me know if it works now. Purrs and snorgles to all!
Ahhhh!
So THAT’s what PhD really means.
I have a “phd” too! lol
I was told it meant Piled higher and Deeper !
Works fine now
Have given them all treats, too.
Hi Ginny! In response to your question yesterday, Currently I live about 8 miles north of Countryside straight up McMullen Booth Rd. How long ago were you there? It has changed ALOT over the last 10 years.
Moved from there in Apr. of ‘04. Sounds like you’re in the neighborhood of –oh, who is that former NBA player who has the huge property with the bison on it? You, know, the guy who sponsors the summer camps at the Long Center? Matt Somebody, I think.
Matt Geiger (? sp) is the name you are looking for and yes I live in the Woodfield community right across the street from him. He no longer has the Bison. One got out and created quite a bit of havoc for county officials. He sold the land and now there are new mansions being built in a community they are calling Buffalo Run. So where are you now?
Just west of Houston. My kids’ piano teacher lived in Woodfield, and I would spend one afternoon per week at her house. I know your neighborhood well. I also remember when th bison escaped–the Pinellas Sheriff’s Dep’t was in a tizzy for 3 days! Didn’t realize that Matt Geiger sold out, though.
The one on thge left is especially beautiful. I wouldn’t mind some make-up lessons from that little one!
I’d love to take them all but I guess they are all claimed. Please give them all kisses and cudles from me.
Thank you all for your kind words of support yesterday. It really helped. On a happier note, my son brought me another new kitten. He is orange and white and an adorable bundle of trouble. Milo is his name and he wears it well. It’s hard to smile without my Snowman but Milo is filling the vacancy nicely. Thanks again everybody. It’s nice to know that others care so much.
Hey debsterwiz,
I am so sorry for your loss of your Snowman… That is just so sad… I didn’t get to comment yesterday, as I was at work.
Congrats on your new baby! He sounds gorgeous. Wish I could see a pic of him. How very sweet of your son to get him for you.
Bless you sweetie…. HUGS and head butts to you!
Hi debsterwiz! Sorry about Snowman, I missed that yesterday. Sounds like Milo will help your wounded heart.
What a sweet son you have. And what a lucky little kitten Milo is to have you as his new meowmy. Get a good picture of him and send him to the kittenmaster. Maybe he will be a kitten of the day.
Headbonks to everyone today. I’m having a really busy week + at work so I’ll be in and out.
Hey Debsterwiz! Congrats to you and Milo. Lots of kitty hugs to you both. I’m positive Snowball will be watching down on both of you with nothing but purring approval!!
Sorry again for your loss Debsterwiz and congrats on your new kitten. I understand how the kitten won’t replace Snowman as my Sylvester cannot replace Whiskers but they help ease the pain with learning to love a new furry friend. Headbonks and purrs.
May Milo bring you the years of happiness that Snowman did. Can’t help but think Snowman directed a kitten in need your way with a little help from your son. The love of your family is bouundless!
Congrats for Milo! And congrats for a smart son. It sounds like he knows you well and loves you very much.

Snazzy! I like the Mile one because it would mount into the wall. Course, first I have to buy a house to put it in…..
Course, I also want a 1969 GTO Judge but I’ll have to do one thing at a time.
By the way, I found mine on eBay and didn’t pay the price listed above
Cool goat!
I made a Five Flavored Pound Cake yesterday. I will gladly share. I had some for breakfast this morning. Great way to start the day…dessert first!
I never heard of five flavored pound cake. It sounds good. Can you post the recipe?
ditto
Here is the recipe. Hope you enjoy!
FIVE FLAVOR POUND CAKE
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
3 cups granulated sugar
5 eggs, beaten
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 pinch salt
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon coconut extract
1 teaspoon lemon extract
1 teaspoon rum extract
1 teaspoon butter flavor extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 325*F. Grease a 10 inch tube or Bundt cake pan. In small bowl
combine flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. In a mesuring cup combine
milk and 1 teaspoon of each of the 5 extracts; set aside. In mixing bowl cream
butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and beat
until smooth. Beat in flour mixture alternately with milk mixture, beginning and ending
with flour mixture. Spoon batter into prepared pan. Bake for 1 1/2 hrs or until cake
test done (knife inserted in cake comes out clean). Let cake cool for 5 mins. and
then pour 1/2 of glaze over cake (while still in pan). Let stand another 5 mins. and
then turn cake out of pan onto cake plate. Slowly spoon remaining glaze onto
top of hot cake. Cool completely before serving.

In saucepan combine sugar, water and the 5 extracts. Bring to a
boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
That sounds great! Thanks!
I’m with Dee…sounds great! Could go for a piece right now……………
And you get to play with these cuties all you want?!!! How wonderful for you! It’s so nice to visit this site when one is catless or kittenless. It’s great to get to visit a virtual kitten each day. I have 2 geezers at home, and our crazy routine will be sorely missed when that bad day comes. I enjoy every moment I have with them.
Yes Joan, cherish every minute. Love them and enjoy them as long as you can.
A-DOOR-A-BULL!!!!
What a bunch o cuties!
It’s a good job you don’t work there - once you started playing with these three, who could do anything else??
They sure are cute.must have siamese in them.
I’d like to explain about a comment I made a few days ago when HM said she had coffee & baileys I thought she said coffee & bialys, all of you must have thought I was off my rocker Sorry I alway think of food before a drink. But I do like baileys & coffee too.
LOL!!! I DID wonder where you were coming from…they sell Baileys in the grocery store here so I didn’t think it rare. So, what is bialys?
They’re a type of bagel—more flat, usually with garlic/onions baked on them. Delicious!
Fruity cocktails count as health food, study finds
A fruity cocktail may not only be fun to drink but may count as health food, U.S. and Thai researchers said on Thursday.
Adding ethanol — the type of alcohol found in rum, vodka, tequila and other spirits — boosted the antioxidant nutrients in strawberries and blackberries, the researchers found.
Any colored fruit might be made even more healthful with the addition of a splash of alcohol, they report in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.
Dr. Korakot Chanjirakul and colleagues at Kasetsart University in Thailand and scientists at the U.S. Department of Agriculture stumbled upon their finding unexpectedly.
They were exploring ways to help keep strawberries fresh during storage. Treating the berries with alcohol increased in antioxidant capacity and free radical scavenging activity, they found.
Any colored fruit or vegetable is rich in antioxidants, which are chemicals that can cancel out the cell-damaging effects of compounds called free radicals.
Berries, for instance, contain compounds known as polyphenols and anthocyanins. People who eat more of these fruits and vegetables have a documented lower risk of cancer, heart disease and some neurological diseases.
The study did not address whether adding a little cocktail umbrella enhanced the effects.
Wooohoooo! Very informative information……..I knew my Bahamas were healthy………har har har!
I meant my Bahama Mamas! Good Lord, I can’t type today!! Got tropical drink and beach on the brain apparently today!!
I’d rather have one in my hand and the other under my butt-you know which!!
Now there is a hammock I would love to take a nap on! And such sweet lovable company!! Kisses to each kitty - I’m not sure who has whom…
Oh so CUTE!!!!!!!
Simply gorgeous trio!
