I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but our SM is having surgery today. Yesterday was an icky day for her as she had to do the awful prep all day. Would all of you please keep SM in your thoughts and prayers today and send that white light streaking towards New Mexico?

SM, I am praying soooo hard for a good report on the biopsy!

Lots and lots and lots of hugs.

he broke a bowl Friday in a mad frenzy to get to some chicken. No biggie. Went to Ikea and replaced it. Tonight he broke a glass in just a mad frenzy. Also from Ikea. Couldn't he have broken them at the same time and saved me a second trip? I think he knows how much I hate that place and likes to torture me. Who wants him? I recommend someone with padded walls. :)

Do you celebrate the day with your significant other, family members, fave friends & special furry one? Or do you think it's just the card industry way of selling 1 billion cards along with stimulating the economy in dreary winter with flowers, candy, jewelry, pet treats & human noms!?

Good morning and Happy Valentines Day littermates. I'm sorry it's been some time since I've done this but I really haven't had anything to report. I finally saw the doctor that I've been on the waiting list to get on the waiting list to see. Wow, what a session! He seems to be fairly certain that I have one of the rarest forms of headache. He said it's not mirgranes I suffer from but a condition called SUNCT Syndrome. Not much can be done for this other than surgery to deaden the nerves in my temples. What to take for pain? Why opiates of course! The one thing I was always told I couldn't have because this guy didn't like that! Why isn't that a hoot!! Most doctors can't dignose this as they have never seen it.

I've always said that if it is wild, unheard of, and can never happen to anyone, it WILL happen to me! Oh well at least I know what to call it now!

My sweet big baby Ruggles has a new obsession: any piece of cloth is a potential "blankie." A "blankie" is some sort of fabric thingie that he can cuddle into, lie upon, rub his head against and croon songs to it.

I found this out this morning when I came downstairs to find him shredding a dish towel while making "muffins" with his big fluffy paws. He was purring and wheezing with delight and rolling around the kitchen table, eyes squeezed shut in some sort of feline bliss.

And did I mention drooling?

Sheesh!

Today is Tuesday, Feb. 14, the 45th day of 2012. There are 321 days left in the year. This is Valentine's Day.
Today's Highlight in History:
On Feb. 14, 1912, Arizona became the 48th state of the Union as President William Howard Taft signed a proclamation.
On this date:
In 1778, the American ship Ranger carried the recently adopted Stars and Stripes to a foreign port for the first time as it arrived in France.
In 1859, Oregon was admitted to the Union as the 33rd state.
In 1862, Confederate President Jefferson Davis signed a proclamation making Arizona a Confederate territory.
In 1876, inventors Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray applied separately for patents related to the telephone. (The U.S. Supreme Court eventually ruled Bell the rightful inventor.)
In 1895, Oscar Wilde's final play, "The Importance of Being Earnest," opened at the St. James's Theatre in London.
In 1903, the Department of Commerce and Labor was established. (It was divided into separate departments of Commerce and Labor in 1913.)
In 1920, the League of Women Voters was founded in Chicago; its first president was Maud Wood Park.
In 1929, the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" took place in a Chicago garage as seven rivals of Al Capone's gang were gunned down.
In 1949, Israel's Knesset convened for the first time.
In 1962, first lady Jacqueline Kennedy conducted a televised tour of the White House in a videotaped special that was broadcast on CBS and NBC (and several nights later on ABC).
In 1979, Adolph Dubs, the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, was kidnapped in Kabul by Muslim extremists and killed in a shootout between his abductors and police.
In 1989, Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini called on Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie, author of "The Satanic Verses," a novel condemned as blasphemous.
Ten years ago: Launching his defense against war crimes charges, former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic (sloh-BOH'-dahn mee-LOH'-shuh-vich) justified his actions as a "struggle against terrorism" and said he was a victim of twisted facts and "terrible fabrication." Enron executive Sherron Watkins told a House subcommittee it was common knowledge at the company that partnerships were used improperly to hide debt and inflate profits.
Five years ago: Challenged on the accuracy of U.S. intelligence, President George W. Bush told a news conference there was no doubt the Iranian government was providing armor-piercing weapons to kill American soldiers in Iraq, and he said he would fight any attempt by the Democratic-controlled Congress to cut off money for the war. ConAgra recalled all Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter made at a Georgia plant because of a salmonella outbreak.
One year ago: President Barack Obama unveiled a $3.7 trillion budget plan that would freeze or reduce some safety-net programs for the nation's poor but turn aside Republican demands for more drastic cuts to shrink the government to where it was before he took office. Protesters took to the streets in Iran, Bahrain and Yemen, inspired by the popular uprising in Egypt that brought down President Hosni Mubarak. The TV game show "Jeopardy!" began airing the first of three episodes pitting human players Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings against an IBM computer named "Watson." (Watson ended up winning with a cumulative total of $77,147 versus $24,000 for Jennings and $21,600 for Rutter.)
Today's Birthdays: TV personality Hugh Downs is 91. Actress-singer Florence Henderson is 78. Actor Andrew Prine is 76. Country singer Razzy Bailey is 73. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is 70. Thought for Today: "We are effectively destroying ourselves by violence masquerading as love." — R.D. Laing, Scottish psychiatrist (1927-1989).
Somehow, chef kittehs have managed to shape pastries, donuts and even bagels into heart shapes. The big orangie manning the griddle will show off his heart-shaped pancakes!

Hey all. I am being sent to Delaware in March for training and will have a day off and I am wanting to go and see the Smithsonian (well at least part of it) So if anyone would like to join me in walking around a museum or just for dinner I would be super psyched to meet other TDKer's in the area. I am thinking that this will be March 11, but I am not sure yet. I will give updates as I know info.

Today is Monday, Feb. 13, the 44th day of 2012. There are 322 days left in the year.
Today's Highlight in History:
On Feb. 13, 1861, Abraham Lincoln was officially declared winner of the 1860 presidential election as electors cast their ballots.
On this date:

Today is Sunday, Feb. 12, the 43rd day of 2012. There are 323 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Feb. 12, 1809, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was born in present-day Larue County, Ky.

On this date:

In 1554, Lady Jane Grey, who'd claimed the throne of England for nine days, and her husband, Guildford Dudley, were beheaded after being condemned for high treason.

In 1795, the University of North Carolina became the first U.S. state university to admit students with the arrival of Hinton James.

In 1818, Chile officially proclaimed its independence, more than seven years after initially renouncing Spanish rule.

In 1908, the first round-the-world automobile race began in New York. (It ended in Paris the following July with the drivers of the American car, a Thomas Flyer, declared the winners over teams from Germany and Italy.)

In 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded.

In 1912, Pu Yi (poo yee), the last emperor of China, abdicated, marking the end of the Qing Dynasty.

In 1915, the cornerstone for the Lincoln Memorial was laid in Washington, D.C., a year to the day after groundbreaking.

In 1940, the radio play "The Adventures of Superman" debuted with Bud Collyer as the Man of Steel.

In 1942, painter Grant Wood, creator of "American Gothic," died in Iowa City, Iowa, a day before his 51st birthday.

In 1959, the redesigned Lincoln penny — with an image of the Lincoln Memorial replacing two ears of wheat on the reverse side — went into circulation.

In 1973, Operation Homecoming began as the first release of American prisoners of war from the Vietnam conflict took place.

In 1999, the Senate voted to acquit President Bill Clinton of perjury and obstruction of justice.

Ten years ago: Former Enron chairman Kenneth Lay expressed "profound sadness" about the collapse of the energy giant, but refused to testify at a Senate hearing. Former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic (sloh-BOH'-dahn mee-LOH'-shuh-vich) went on trial in The Hague, accused of war crimes (he died in 2006 before the trial could conclude). Pakistan charged three men in connection with the kidnapping of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Karachi (they and a fourth man were later convicted of Pearl's murder). An Iranian passenger jet crashed, killing all 119 on board. "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" received 13 Academy Award nominations; tied for second with eight nods were "A Beautiful Mind" and "Moulin Rouge!"

Five years ago: Teen gunman Sulejman Talovic (SOO'-lay-mahn TAHL'-oh-vitch) shot nine people, killing five, at a Salt Lake City mall before he was shot and killed by police. Car bombs shattered Baghdad's oldest and largest market, killing at least 78 people.

One year ago: Thousands of Algerians defied government warnings and dodged barricades in their capital, demanding democratic reforms; demonstrations continued in Yemen as well. Death claimed actress Betty Garrett, 91, and actor Kenneth Mars, 75.

Today's Birthdays: Movie director Franco Zeffirelli is 89. Actor Louis Zorich is 88. Baseball Hall-of-Fame sportscaster Joe Garagiola is 86. Former Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., is 82.
Thought for Today: "Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still." — President Harry S. Truman (1884-1972).

Kittenmaster, I need your help. I had created a TDK account as "willtoway" about a 2 years ago. Recently when I returned to TDK I somehow wasn't able to retrieve my password despite many attempts. Therefore I opened a new account as "onlinebuddy." Yesterday I tried searching for my previous posts as willtoway and I found them. I tried retrieving my willtoway password and it worked. So now I have two TDK login names: willtoway and onlinebuddy. Can I combine the posts from both under my current login name i.e. onlinebuddy?

Spook is celebrating her 5th anniversary with her forever home with a party at the roller rink today! Her anniversary is officially Valentine's Day, but she knows her meowmy would be too busy to celebrate then.

The caterers have arranged for lots of tuna dishes and catnip treats, and Spook has brought Greenies and her favorite toys. Chris has ensured that there are comfy beds and chairs available for the older cats like himself. Topaz has set up a manicure and fur-styling station, and Snake is spiking the drinks with catnip.

Spook hopes all her friends can make it!
