I hope you're taking it easy tonight, AV, and spoiling yourself after all that work you did. The yucky weather was perfect for indoor chores today.

Oh no, SM!!! I hope she didn't charge you! I hate when they mess my hair up. Going for a haircut is a special treat, which makes you feel even worse when they mess it up!

Just back from the pool - can't believe how many people were there this late! I was hoping people would be at home having dinner. Had to wait about ten minutes for room to swim and when I finally did, my arms and legs weighed a ton after all the swimming yesterday. I did 60 anyway, because I want to push myself more on the weekend when I don't swim with my friend.

Had to get my hair cut--I was so shaggy. Well I might has well gone to the dog groomers! I look like she took a weed whacker to my head! The right side almost has hair, the left side is still long and shaggy--she tried to fix it--I am almost bald. I would like to just scream. Yes hair grows back, but this looks like crap!

.... afternoon all!..... back is sore, and I feel like a truck ran over me today!.... Mr. AV and I have been working non-stop since we got home from Church - cleaned the entire house, painted the closets in our bedroom, then moved furniture, re-distributed everything, so we can work on the next room!.... this renovation is room to room, so when we finish one, we move in there, and move on to the next!..... not the easiest way, but definitely lets us "live" here while we get things done!.....I'll be glad when it's all over!!!!...

I absolutely wait until my baths are done, and I have TWO baths with jacuzzi tubs in which to enjoy!...... *calgon* take me away........

This IS cheese, I haven't tried it but it certainly sounds wonderfully delicious.
In Russia, pashka, a dessert with a cheesecake-like texture, is the highlight of the Easter Sunday dinner table.

Traditionally placed in a pyramid-shaped wooden mould lined with muslin, the mixture itself is easy to make and no cooking is involved. Soft cheeses and sour cream are combined with chopped nuts and dried fruit then placed in the mould; holes in the bottom allow excess liquid to drain overnight.

You can use a smallish ceramic plant pot as a mould or make simple pashka balls in muslin, as they do elsewhere in Europe.

Let the balls drain by suspending them over a basin in a cold place. I tied mine to taps in the laundry, but the fridge is best if the weather is hot.

Today's recipe makes two medium-sized pashka balls.

Some hints for making pashka:

    * To sterilize the muslin, place it in a basin and submerge in boiling water or boil in a saucepan. Muslin is available at good kitchen shops. I got mine from E Hayes in Dee St.
* If you use a ceramic plant pot, make sure it has a drainage hole and clean it thoroughly before lining with muslin. A new one would be best.
* If making balls, push the mixture down into the muslin for good drainage.
* Tie the balls with string. You can cover it with ribbon after the pashka is thoroughly drained.

Ingredients

    * Grated zest and juice of a lemon
* 50g very soft butter
* 250g carton cream cheese
* 250g carton ricotta cheese
* 4 Tbsp sour cream
* 1/2 cup chopped dried fruit (I used dried cranberries and dried pineapple)
* 1/2 cup finely chopped dark chocolate
* 1/2 cup caster sugar
* 1/4 cup chopped blanched almonds
* Tsp vanilla essence

Method: Soften cream cheese and combine with ricotta, butter and sour cream.

Add the caster sugar, vanilla, lemon zest and juice.

Beat with a wooden spoon until thoroughly mixed. Add the dried fruit, nuts and chocolate.

Spread two lengths of damp muslin, each about 40cm square, on a clean surface.

Divide the mixture between the 2 muslins. Gather the muslin ends and gently form a ball by twisting.

Squeeze gently.

Tie with string when balls are firm.

Hang from a tap or handle of a long wooden spoon for 12 hours or overnight.

Trim string and tie with ribbon if making as a gift.

Store in the fridge.

Slice into wedges then serve with stewed or fresh summer fruit.

I swim freestyle, GD, and I have a hard time breathing without getting a faceful of water. I'm working on it, though :)

MC, I can totally understand why water would scare you after something like that. Have you tried your local YMCA? The one here has adult lessons. And I agree with FF, everyone should at least be able to keep their head above water, because you really never know when you might need to. I've always been able to swim in a "keep myself from drowning" kind of way, but I took lessons because I wanted to be able to swim for exercise, which doesn't work if you crap out after 10 minutes.

Mr. K and I are on our way out for a walk in the sunshine; see you all later.

My goal for the year was to learn to swim. Funny thing is everywhere I call, only teaches kids. I am deathly afraid of the water after smacking my head on the concrete steps in my grandma's pool and going under water and no one seeing me. I got lungs full of water and threw up everywhere. I was only three but it still scares the poop out of me. :( FF says I need to learn to swim cause its very important to know (he just resigned as a rescue diver on the fire department). Says too many people panic in water and you just never know when you will need to know.

Morning/afternoon, all. I had a fairly good swim (20 lengths of the pool) this morning, and the first length was awesome because I made it the whole way without stopping. Normally I get hung up when I try to breathe, what little coordination I have goes out the window and I end up stopping and restarting.

It's beautiful here again today and we're going to try to take advantage of it because it's supposed to rain tomorrow and Tuesday, boo.

Morning, all! I'll have bacon and eggs, scrambles, hash browns and a steaming mug of cafe au lait please! *wiggles fingers from inside her fuzzy bathrobe* we had a gorgeous day here yesterday, and then last night a front came thru with rain and wind. Now it is COLD - 40s (F)(cold for New Orleans!) Glad I got my gardin started yesterday! Fighting a cold, and have been coughing so much my back muscles hurt! We don't get our spring breek for another week and I cannot wait! This semester has been exhsusting! I took our newest addtion to the household, Caramel (12 y/o rescue) to the vet to get checked out... Other than her *ahem* size, she is fit and healthy. I was worried she might be diabetic 'cuz she makes very large litter box deposits, if you know what I mean...

Lol, Chey - Sammi will really be able to do some damage with those extra toes of hers :)
I tried buying thick tellow rubber gloves to bathe Mi with - they were shredded on 30 seconds!

The only time I've ever washed a whole cat was when I was a child and our cat fell into an open sewer. Occasionally I have to wash Garbo's jodphurs because they get a bit "pooey" but generally I expect my girls to keep themselves clean.

I wear a thick hoodie and my winter gloves if I want to wash Doxie. Actualy Kizzie is more fiesty even though she is smaller. I think Kizzie sprouts extra toes and nails and a whole set of teeth when I give her a bath. Doxie just meowls the most and then waits till I am sitting on a chair and soaks me while she licks herself dry. Sammi is still small. I will wait till its a bit warmer before I give anyone their mid spring bath.

I've just watched a programme on TV for "sport relief" (a UK charity event that raises money for disadvantage kids throughout the UK and the rest of the world. A young woman (a Blue Peter preseter if that means anything to you anglophiles) kayaked the entire length of the River Amazon in just over a month. She spent 366 hours in her kayak. WOW!

I need a bacon sandwich just to think about what she achieved.

I give him baths every now and then, Chey. I get allergies from cat hair so giving him a bath every now and then helps. And he is so nice and soft and fluffy afterwards and smells so good! I've only ever given Mi a bath a few times. He is so feisty, though, that at 14 lbs. I don't even dare take him on.
