OK, so I have 2 kittens that are almost two weeks old. Eyes completely open. They move around a lot.. already exploring..
well im noticing that the mother cat isn't spending as much time with them as when they were born.. or when they were about a week old.. she kind of wants to do her own thing and doesnt feed them as much or lay with them all day long. is this normal that she spends less them with them after the first week??

So my cats had a vet visit today and I asked for an estimate for what it would cost to have my cat spayed, and they gave me an estimate of $353. And the only place they accepted vouchers/coupons from, apparently, they ran out of funds. I was wondering if anyone here has had their cat spayed/neutered at clinics and how that turned out. We were told that the Vets did a blood test before hand to make sure the cat's organs could handle the anesthetics and that they were kept overnight (the females at least) and were under constant supervision, both human and mechanical (monitors). They said the spay clinics did not do that and sent the cat home the same day. Obviously I need my cat spayed, but that's quite a hefty bill, especially taking into consideration that a few months from now, I'll have to get the kitten fixed as well. We're going to look into some stuff, but if anyone has any experience with alternative places or good websites to locate such places, post some links if possible.

My daughter got a kitten from our neighbor that is solid white his name is Cloud Thunder I think he may be deaf. He loves to play but he only wakes up when we pick him up. I asked my mother about him being deaf and she said that since he can meow and purr he is not but it is so fustrating that he dosn't come when called or act like he can hear us walking in to his room. Anything will be helpful. Also, I am in a search for a long hair black and white female kitten like I had as a child, any one out there know where I can find her?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering whether these two kittens are male or female.

Initially I was bothered about their survival. Now that they are doing well, I'm trying to figure out their gender. Both are are 31 days old.

I have read many articles regarding gender determination. However, it is very difficult to tell if they are male or female :) I have read about the colon and semicolon method, and other stuff. However, it's so difficult to figure out.

Looks like I may have to change some names:)

There are 2 links for each kitten.

A couple of the neighborhood kids just came to the door asking for my help. There was a kitten they said was stuck way up top of the tree & they didn't know how to get it down. I go over there & there it is,perched just about as high as it could, crying away. I started tapping the trunk of the tree & calling kitty kitty. And that little stinker climbed straight down & got on my shoulder & wrapped her little paws around my neck w/the loudest purr I've ever heard. She's solid dk.gray & about 2 months old & thin. And Extremely vocal!! Bless my neighbor (the one who has also TNRed thru the yrs.) took her for me.
I have zero capacity here & my life is in turmoil at this time & there's no way I could take her in. She called one of her other foster friends to find a place for her. She's also going to give her the shots she needs & deworm her. It's the second cat in the last week that's showed up here. The other one she spotted this last week (an adult,long-haired orangie) we've never seen around here. It's the most lovey-dovey little furbutt I've ever encountered. I only have unfluffy thoughts for the previous owner who carelessly let this little girl out,or simply dumped her. She"s
safe,fed & warm now. :)

The vet found a lesion in Stumpie's throat this morning. I took him in because he wasn't eating normally, and I couldn't see why. They're going to sedate him later this afternoon and use an endoscope to see exactly what's going on before they operate to fix it. The vet said the prognosis for Stumpie's situation isn't good, because he's so small the aneasthesia risk is much bigger, and he could be under for a few hours, depending on what they find. Prayers for my baby please?

hey all!

Izzy did beautifully with her spay surgery yesterday, it went exactly by the book was what the vet said and it isn't even like she had the surgery at all! She doesn't seem to be in any pain or anything and that's where my problem lies haha.

Vet orders said to keep Izzy calm and quiet for the next 7-10 days, but with Izzy, it seems impossible to do haha. She's running and jumping just like she always has, but she isn't supposed to be doing that! How can she heal properly if she tears through the house like a hurricane, climbing everything in sight?

Any advice on how to make Izzy simmer down a bit so she can heal? Thanks!

I took my 9 week old kitten to the emergency vet at 4am this morning because last night he started limping on his right leg and would not extend it out while playing and this morning he cant walk and is lathargic. He is weak and when he stands up it is only for a couple of seconds then he lays down. They said he has a 104.5 fever. They asked me all kinds of questions about eating and drinking which he is doing when he is awake and play which he is not doing at all. He wants to sleep most of the time. I could not afford for them to do bloodwork because they wanted to charge me $500-600 and i just lost my job in March and have been unable to find work. So I have to wait until 9am to call his regular vet I really need for my little baby to be ok. Please say a little prayer for him to get well soon. We are thinking it may be a cold.

Ok. I'm on a search for the perfect litter. What is considered the best kitty litter out there on the market, in your opinions, of course? I'd like to use something that is Earth friendly, if at all possible. I tried the "worlds best cat litter" but it's extremely dusty. I'm not liking that at all. I'm currently using fresh step.

I took my boy in for another urinary blockage on Sunday (yes - he always decides to have these episodes on the weekend during emergency room hours!). The doctor placed a catheter and he was there 2 nights. All went well...I had been wanting them to do the PU surgery and they called me Monday night to let me know that they could do it on Tues. With not much time to think about it, I agreed. They did the surgery Tues morning...the Dr called me at work and said all went well. Later on that day, around 4PM, I had another call stating that he was in respiratory distress!! He was panting and not doing well at all. What happened!! They said he had developed fluid in his lungs...they have him on oxygen and all kinds of meds to include the pain patch for the surgery. Today they did an ultrasound and found that his left ventricle was very think indicating an underlying heart condition. I am so sad for my boy right now. He looked so bad when I saw him today, he hasn't eaten since Sunday morning...they showed me his exrays and sure enough there was something in the lungs. But he was fine before the surgery!

Has anyone else had this happen? Now it seems the surgery he had is the secondary concern and his heart and lungs are now top priority. I am so sad...I do not want to lose him. They are doing all they can right now but I am not very hopeful.

Your prayers and advice will be appreciated...

Hello, my fiancee and I adopted a 7 week kitten from a family who's cat (accidently) had kittens. We named her Cerce. Cerce is a little firecracker and when she got home, she immediately ran around the apartment and wanted to play! She wants to play pretty much all the time and seems really healthy. Its so cute but I haven't gotten much work done! She joins 2 year old cat sister Bella, who is slowly warming up to her. We are trying to separate them at least until Cerce goes to the vet, but Cerce always wants to get out. Cerce is a blue-eyed, white kitten, but doesn't appear to be deaf. She's really adorable! We love her! I'm sure she'll be a wonderful cat.

Well I forgot my old password so I started a new account. My Cats are Sam my 11 year old retired barn cat who has lived with me since he wasa 4 and I was 13 or so. No I am 20 almost 21 and recently moved sam in with me in my first apartment and also my fiance. A month into the new apartment we recieved a kitten that was rescued out of my future mother in laws front yard. He is a little orange tabby, we have had him since semptember abd he went from TINY little kitten who seemed barly old enough to be away from mommy to this HUGE 3 month old. He has gotten so big, he will be about sam size (25 pounds) at full maturity I swear it. I just wanted to post this for any tips on great toys and other things. It seems like Sam was livened up by Blaze. He is always out and about now and plays with all the new toys which he never use to and since there are no children in the near future I have no problem cleaning up all the cat toys we have and I would love to add more since cats LOVE new things. Also any cute stories are welcome and pictures. If you go to www.facebook.com/foutsybabyx21 and click on Pets and stuff there are a whole bunch of cute pictures of ALL my animals plus other people's as well so please share with me and I will do the same. I love animals as you can see so they more the merrier!

I recently rescued a kitten who was living on the street here on my block. Well I took her to the vet and she had worms. I am still worried even though she has been treated for the worms she still cries alot and doesnt really eat much. She is so skinny I am scared. She is loving and wants our attention but she does not like to play either. When Abby tries to play with her she just yells and growls and that is all. I do not know what to do for her. Any advice would help.

Hi my feline friends! First - let me start by saying I do respect many of your opinions on how bad this food might be...however, I cannot take any chances anymore and must trust my vet with my boy's urinary issues. I tried the Wellness canned - and the Wellness Core...he started blocking so back to the vet we went at a great expense...

Vet said Urinary S/O then switch to Hill's C/D multicare. Here's my problem! He loves the S/O canned and dry! He HATES the c/d canned. Can I feed him the canned S/O plus the Hill's c/d dry? I know I should ask the vet - but just wondering if anyone else had this issue?

Thanks!

So my girlfriend and I were playing around near the linen closet, our cat and kitten nearby, and I was trying to close the closet door on her and the cat came up and was persistent in trying to get into the closet through the crack so I opened the door, she hissed and proceeded to bite down on my girlfriend's arm. It was a quick chomp, drew a little blood, but then the cat just walked away and hung around us. I don't think she was being malicious, it just worried me that she hissed and then bit someone. She's been known on rare occasions to grab my leg and bunny kick it, but those times are so far and few in between. Her most recent heat cycle just ended so she's back to her normal, unaffectionate self. And I'm certain this wasn't the first time she was witness to us horse playing or making loud noises, and I really don't know what other reason she'd have to bite, especially when it is preceded by a hiss.

Any thoughts on what happened?

so, Isabelle, my baby girl is going to get spayed on Tuesday and I honestly think that this is the most nervous that I've been. I don't know why I'm so nervous, but I am haha. I honestly think that it will bother me more than it will bother her. I'm just terrified that something will happen to her while she's under. I'm likely just being way over-concerned, but she's my girl and I'm afraid to take her for her spay even though I shouldn't be! How can I calm myself down so that Izzy doesn't sense my distress and stress out herself?

hey everyone. i just found a kitten in my backyard. it was really cold out and she was shivering and crying, so i took her in - apparently she got separated from her mom somehow. i took her to the vet already, but got told that shes too young still for most of her vaccinations. thankfully, the vet said she was in good health, so thats a plus.

basically, i have a few questions about things the kitten is doing that im concerned about. any help would really be appreciated. thanks!

(1) the kitten has been waking up at night and wanting to sleep with me. i really dont want this, since im afraid of rolling over in the middle of the night and hurting her. i keep trying to put her off the bed, but she climbs up all over again, and then thinks i want to play. what tips do you guys have to help her sleep through the night / stay in the bed that i've created for her?

(2) im concerned about when to wean the kitten. she has started eating solid food (canned cat food) and seems to love it, but she is not interested in drinking milk or water from a bowl, and usually just knocks the bowl over. do you have any tips for getting the kitten to drink from a bowl? also, at what point should i stop feeding her substitute cat milk and switch her over to plain water?

(3) a little on the gross side, but the kitten seems to be constipated. i haven't seen her go #2 in about 4-5 days, which means either she is (and its strategically hidden somewhere in my room) or she has been constipated. peeing has been no problem, and she readily goes in the litter box. i try to place here there about a half hour after feeding her. any tips on this?

thanks in advance for all the help!

Just last night a friend of mine Natalie came over and gave my sister and me a kitten. Thing is we don't know anything about kittens. Natalie told me its 2 weeks old and that they found him at her mother’s job and that the brothers and sisters were road kill… and today I just so happened to find this website and was wondering if anyone can give any advice, tips, on how to take care of our new kitty.

I witnessed a Miracle this morning. Some may remember I've had to keep Winnie & Lacy closed in my room. Lacy (Hannah's sis) was traumatized by her owner as a kitten & basically locked herself in my room on her own. She's hid out there since. I've been opening my door in the a.m. to let Winnie roam because her zooming antics are driving me insane,to say the least. Hannah & my Binky have the run of the house (they're the only 2 that get along). I have to watch Winnie & Hannah constantly cuz they hate each other w/a passion & Winnie (the clawless & fearless)...she's just a stalking little b***h & always has been.
My beautiful Floofball Lacy saw me thru the doorway to the other side of the house & for the 1st time in literally yrs. came all the way thru the house to greet me on the sofa. I almost hyperventilated from excitement! When I stood up,she playfully hopscotched back to her hidey-hole...but a miracle in itself she was out at all.
Half-hour later,I was busy doing other things & I heard a cat fight. I knew immediately it was Hannah & Winnie (the she-b****es). When I got to the area they had been fighting, both were gone. I found Winnie(Thanks to Binky's sharp eye)cowering down hiding. Winnie now has an injury on her back leg that's preventing her from walking on it. I'd like to say to her...serves her right w/her stalking every cat she sees...but I'd have no enjoyment from it because there will be no vet trip w/no money. So now, her getting let out of there to release all her energies was short-lived.
I had such high hopes that I would finally be allowed to let those 2 roam & not have to worry about fights. Short-lived. I've tried everything to make those 2 get along & nothing works. But...I still have my miracle having Lacy come out of her hidey-hole like she did. :)

Hi everyone, me again about my Feline Leukemia positive kitten Nibbler. Just wondering if anyone knows anything other then antibiotics that is good for treating conjuntivitis? He has constant runny nose and eyes. He can't be on anymore antibiotics for awhile because it destroyed his insides and I have been trying to stabilize his gastrointestinal track for weeks now. Going to the vet today at 4 to pick up one of my cats, Garbage, who will be done getting spayed then and I plan on asking the vet then...but didn't know if anyone had anything that has worked for your cats/kittens. And I startes Lysine yesterday. Thanks everyone.

You know those stories you often hear about a mommy cat who was kind enough to take on an orphaned kitten as part of her own litter? Sky has now adopted Stumpie. Stumpie is almost 5 months old, but very tiny for his age. I hand reared him from age 2 weeks; at that time, Sky wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. Much hissing and growling, and a puzzled expression - 'surely that can't be MY baby??', and then at age 7 weeks Stumpie went to the shelter to find a home. A few months later, he's back with us :) And now Sky absolutely loves him! He tries to nurse from her, and she lets him. She grooms him all the time, she watches him like a hawk and attacks the other cats who are mean to him. She follows him everywhere. And off course he's happy as a pig in mud - he always wanted a mommy. Life is sometimes strange and wonderful all at the same time?

I have a 4 month old kitten with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. She's been doing really good up until last saturday when she laid on her side and meowed and spazzed and kicked to her abdomen. To me she seemed like she was constipated so I gave her a little enema and she did her business and was good for a week. This saturday she did the same thing again. So I decided to take her to the vet. He said he couldn't feel any obstruction in her bowel and he was worried that it could be her cerebellum deteriorating. I read as much as I could about CH and everything that I've read says that it doesn't change. It is hard to explain what she does, but if you try to sit her upright, she screams. When she's laying down she will scream every once in a while. I just want to figure out what is wrong with my little one. If she doesn't show any signs of improvement I'm going to have to euthinize her. All she will do right now is lay on her side with her back feet tucked in. Please Help. Thanks.

My first question is how much exactly should they be eating per day. I feed them 3oz of Evo canned three times a day. There is dry down for them all day. The canned they get at 4am (that's what time I get up), 3pm, & 7ish. Sometimes they devour and I feel compelled to give them more. Is this ok? Am I feeding them enough.

Also, My little gus seems to be drinking a lot. Much more than Ulysses. He lays by the bowl, too. His pee is so much more massive than Ulysses' pee. Is this ok? I'm sure all cats are different and have different eating/drinking habits. I'm just wondering at what point should I worry about the somewhat excessive drinking. I have two bowls down for them. They probably go through one full bowl a day. Perhaps that's not too much. Not sure. Again, Gus is just drinking way more than Ulysses.

Thank you.

Hi everyone, it's me again with my problems :(

This morning my kitten seemed fine, made the usual noise at 7am with his litter box. But he hasn't been eaten very much in the past few days.

I came to check at lunch and he was still in the same position as I left him in his bed. He looks completely lethargic (very unusual since he's usually pretty lively), and he's been sleeping all day and hasn't touched his food.

I've tried force feeding him with a seringe with wet food mixed with water, but only got so far to about maybe 4-8ml the whole day. He won't touch wet or dry food. I've tried warming up his food, rubbing his tummy, but he just won't eat.

And just now he threw up white foam. I'm very concerned since it's incredibly important for him to eat. I've already made a vet appointment but they will only have space open on Tuesday. I'm afraid that 4 days is too long to go by before he's seriously sick. I'm not sure if he could've eaten something he wasn't supposed to, or if it's something else.

At best, I can bring him to the animal hospital (but it's super far! I could never make it there by public transportation) on Saturday.

In the mean time, anyone have any advice in feeding him? He really refuses to eat even through seringe and it's a battle to get his mouth to open.

Please help!! :(

well i just got out of school and when i walked through the door and went to the couch i heard a meow, well i was looking all around for spaz and i couldnt find him so i lifted the cushions of the couch and there he was under the couch. this isnt the first time he has done this, but since i was at school and my fiance is asleep i have no idea how long he has been in there. but apparently he found his favorite toy. but how do i keep him from going in the couch? its not a recliner and i try to keep the cushions all the way pushed in, but this cat digs to get in there? do i have to duct tape the cushions like i did to the bottom of the kitchen counter? lol
