I was reading a book on cat stories, and this one just made me happy:

A man fell out of a wheelchair, and got seriously injured and I think it said he was unconsience (sorry if misspelled). Then his CAT called 911 and saved his live. The man said he had trained the cat to call 911, but he said that the cat would seem to never listen to the training. Then the police came over to save the man and saw his cat lying on the floor next to the phone.

I hope you enjoyed this nice story as much as I did.

I've been caught in nightmare out of a Kafka novel since last Saturday morning, when I returned to Costa Rica, eager to greet my kitties after spending two weeks away in California, securing an apartment and a car. Customs informed me I wasn't allowed to enter the country. They said I'd been deported! This erroneous charge came as a complete shock. I was already exhausted from a red-eye flight from Denver, and had been traveling nearly 24 hours from SF. They wouldn't even let me call my attorney. They put me on a plane back to Denver, where I have been since, in a hotel. I contacted my Costa Rican attorney six hours later, from the Denver Airport. He's been working on the case since Monday. So far, no result. I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to repatriate my cats and possessions without ever setting foot in Costa Rica (CR) again. My attorney initiated a legal action against Immigration yesterday, and says we're supposed to get a definitive judgment in 48 hours. Meanwhile I've decided that Friday afternoon, if I don't have official permission to enter CR, I'm flying back to California to start getting furniture into my new apartment. Meanwhile I'm contacting pet transport companies to see how I can get my cats to SF within the next week. They must be stressed out. They have been fed twice a day by a neighbor's maid, but she's not a cat person, and they are surely starting to feel abandoned. So, it looks like they may have to travel cargo whether I want to or not, because I believe that is how most pet transport companies do it. I am not sure about that, but will ask when I get my quote. I don't know, I haven' decided what to do yet, I'm stressed, I'm frazzled, I'm infuriated, scared...In short, I'm experiencing what most victims of serious crimes experience: sleeplessness, difficulty concentrating, feelings of acute aloneness...I've never been through anything like this in my life.

I'm sorry I ever entered that godforsaken country.

I'm still waiting until Friday morning. That is the last time at which we can reasonably expect to get a clear answer to my attorney's legal actions. Or, rather, if we don't have a clear answer by then, it could be weeks or months before getting an answer. But I have to be out in March, as that is my last month's paid rent. If there is no clear answer by Friday, I will have to get busy getting my property back without my going there. Assuming I have to do that, I have a friend there who can help me, but I'm not sure I want my cats there during the whole process of him being in my apartment packing up my stuff. They are already going to be stressed, and I think it will stress them even more to have this strange guy - well, they sort of "know" him, he's been to my place a fair number of times, but still, they are shy cats - in my place, disassembling their familiar home. The move itself will inevitably be stressful enough. But he's not a cat person either, and asking him to foster my cats while asking him to do all this other stuff too -- including wire transfering bank funds to my US bank and boxing and flying with my stuff to SF -- is asking a bit much.

So I'm rambling. But I need to, to think clearly. Does anyone know how pet transport companies usually work? Do some of them fly with the cats in the regular cabin? One possibility is that Rob could get an apartment and then move the cats over there temporarily while he boxes up my stuff in my apartment. I think he's been planning to get an apartment in March anyway because before I left he said he wanted to buy some of my big furniture, so he's evidently planning to find a place in March, because he knows my plan was to be out of CR by mid March. NOW I can't be out of there soon enough.

What does Frontline flea medicine smell like? Does it have the same strong chemical smell as Advantage?

I Advantaged my little ones a month ago, and Lucy was fine with it, but Augie was SO bothered by the smell. He sulked and looked miserable for about 8 hours.

I hate it, but my kittens are going to have to have flea medicine living in this neighborhood or we'll be infested. They're due for another treatment tomorrow and I just found a flea on Augie.

The reason I'm asking is that I don't want to waste the doses of Advantage I already have if Frontline's gonna smell just as bad to Augie.

Also, has anyone tried or does anyone have any information about the brewer's yeast remedy (put 1 tsp brewer's yeast in the cat's food per day to prevent fleas)? If it's safe and it works it might be a good option for me (and it'd be a lot cheaper than Frontline), but I'm a little wary of folk remedies.

Thank You!

My Max has been a single cat for 5 yrs, she is declawed and spayed, she was feral when I found her at about 4 weeks old. I'd like to get her a baby, but I've never been a good cat person, but I love my baby girl Max-I'm sure she gets bored when I'm at work all day 5 days a week. Any thoughts?

Hi, I haven't really posted since I joined awhile ago, mainly I just look at the kitties.

But, I had to tell you about the new addition to our family and get any ideas on introducing my Ginger boy to her.

On Saturday my partner and I picked up Electra, a 13 year old calico from one of the local Feral rescue groups. She had been abandoned in a feral colony in a biggish town nearby. The person feeding and trapping the ferals recognized that she was domesticated, they brought her in and found out that she had to have several teeth pulled, had a urinary tract infection and was starving. They took care of all her problems, though she is stil on an antibiotic. She is still looking for a forever home, we are just fostering her. Her former foster family is taking a long trip and she was bullying their 15 year old cat.

Now we already have a 7 year old male orange tabby. Who commutes between my apartment and my partner's apartment (there are several reasons why we can't live together full-time). He is currently with me and Electra with my partner, but assuming Electra doesn't get adopted in the next few weeks, I'm going to want to spend more than one night at the other house (I only leave Ginger alone for 24-30 hours and not more than once a week) and Ginger will come with me and meet his new "older" sister.

We have no idea how Ginger will react since he has been an only cat since we got him at 5 months. The apartment is so small that there is not really anyway to keep them seperated and still have access to food and litterbox.

We have thought of taking a shirt that my parnter has worn (with her scent) and then have Ginger mark it and then take it to Electra and vis versa. We could also put Electra back in her carry crate for the first introduction, but we wouldn't want to keep her in it very long. Any other ideas?

Hello, just looking for some advice.

Backstory: I'm staying at my parents house at the moment and there is white cat that is asleep on the my dad's shed rood, he says it is homeless and belonged to a family that moved and must of left it behind! Mean people. Anyway, he says he has tried to feed it a few times but it runs off, granted though my father is loud and probably scared it off. He also says that it was skinny before christmas as has put weight on so thinks someone is feeding it.

I went to see it and it doesn't look skinny but it is very dirty, especially it's ears and also has some scars on it from fights maybe. I managed to feed it some cooked chicken breast which it woofed down. Also after a few attempts I managed to let it have me stroke it and it feels very greasy/dirty but it looked like it was heaven! After while it just lay down and went back to sleep.

Anyway the point is I was wondering if it would be a good thing to start feeding whenever I see it around or leave some food out. Can cats have dog? I ask because my parents have a lot of tins of adult dog food left from before their dog passed (they currently have pup). Or is better if I buy a box of cat for it? Or am I best not feeding it if someone else is? Do you think I should call anyone about it? I mean a rescue place, etc.

Sorry for going on with myself, thanks!

Well. I had told you guys how I found Sammi and brought her in from being alone and abandon, and then her love for going behind the stove. Well I had catproofed the rest of my house but my dresser still needed a bit of space between the wall because of my tv.
.
My tv is plugged into a kinda old power bar. Well a couple days ago Sammi decides to go down into that space that I thought was way to small for her. Anyways I move the dresser out a bit so she could get out the side but she wouldn't go so I removed the dresser completely and she STILL wouldn't leave so I figured I was gonna have to plug the power bar and tv somewhere elce.
.
well the next day I plugged the power bar in a new location and it made a really bad crackling/sizzling sound and I turned it off immediately. I realized the power bar could catch fire. I have no sense of smell so I would have no way to know if there was a bad smell. I can't hear too well so I wouldn't have known if the power bar was making weird noises if I hadnt plugged it somewhere else.
.
I never would have known if Sammi hadn't gone down behind the dresser. Call it what you will but I think Sammi knew that something was wrong with that power bar and did what she could to alert me. She saved all of us from a potential major fire. As far as I am concerned, she is a little guardian spirit cat :) Aptly Named Sammi (short for Samhain a pagan holiday)
.
While Sammi and I are grateful for all the help people have given, I am very thankful that Sammi came into my life. <3
.
Chey
.
in all this, I hope that everyone will take the time to check their power bars, and electrical appliances. You never know what could be a fire hazard.

Hello TDKers!

I hope someone can help me out. It's been a while since I posted on this forum. My kittens have been thriving and are now 5 weeks old. However, I've noticed that one of my kittens has dried blood around his butt. At first I thought it was just poop that got stuck to his butt, so I would just wipe it off and not think anything of it. Then I saw it before it started to dry up and then realized that it was blood. Recently, while introducing my kittens to the litter box... I've noticed that they try to eat the litter. I've taken the advice of most kitten-care websites and went ahead and bought nonclumping clay cat litter. The actual bits of litter are pretty huge compared to the finer clumping litter I'm used to seeing. Could this be the reason why his butt is bleeding? I've done some research and found that bleeding can be caused due to having foreign objects in their intestines. It could also be worms... I'm taking my kittens to the vet in about a week to get their shots. Both of them are very lively. They eat lots and play with each other.

I haven't seen either of them poop in a couple days. Could this very well be a case of intestinal blockage??

The midwest had a very bad year for growing grains. It had been a very damp summer causing moldy crops.

Most grains in cat food are the rejects from the human food industry. I bet that a lot of the grain from this year is going to end up in bags of pet food. So, just watch out. And if you can its probably the safest to switch to grain free food (and preferably canned)!

Our Persian cat had 10 kittens. three stillborn and 7 alive. Their weight varied from 55grams to 115 grams. The two smallest survived for 2 days. and the third smallest for 15 days. We supplemented the little ones with Animalac, Which is recommended for kittens. These kittens(especially number 3 drank vigorously and desperately wanted to live. I was also feeding glucose every hour as well. Misty ( number 3) had diarreah almost from birth and I tried everything to stop it. The vets just suggested we put them down.(we cant do that)At 2 weeks old she had only put on 40 grams since birth. She was also drinking regularly from mum and not dehydrated.Eventually she just gave up. The food was just going straight through her. It was heartbreaking. Because she fought so hard live. These were full term babies, but seemed doomed to die from birth and nothing I could do could stop it. Any advice? Has anyone else had any success?

Hi guys,

I'm new here! Forgive me for the essay but I want to share the whole story in case you guys can help me out at all. I found a baby kitten in my shed, sitting all alone screaming. It's eyes were closed and it had fleas and was dirty so I took it in and cleaned it, got rid of the fleas, got it some kitten powder milk replacement, (wambaroo brand - im in australia) and I have been feeding it through a baby bottle. I've had it for a couple of weeks now.

It's eyes opened the next few days after I found it, so it would have been about 7-10 days old then. When I first found it, I just fed it, stimulated it and then put it to sleep. It just ate and slept most of the time and I could put it in the basket, cover it over so it was dark and it would sleep and I wouldn't need to worry about it. The basket has towels in it, a hot water bottle in a towel, and a teddy.

I fed it every few hours and it peed and pooped then went back to sleep. Then it stopped pooping for a few days. I called the vet and they said to dilute the milk - so I did that and it worked that day. Then still didn't have consistent pooping, so I kept feeding it diluted milk but didn't seem to do anything. I saw the brutus video on youtube and did what they did, put a vaseline covered thingy up it's bum to make sure there wasn't a blockage, and it had poop on it when it came out so I stimulated and got a tiny bit, but then nothing normally. Is it possible that it just doesn't need to go? It pees fine, it just lies there quiet while it pees but when i do triangle method for pooping it squirms and squeals.

I took it to the vet two days ago, found out it's a girl! I've named her Lily. He did an enema (squirted parrafin up her bum) and then when i got home she did a massive poop, healthy looking yellow and toothpaste consistency. But now two days later, nothing again and we're back to the no-regular-poop situation. I was expecting that to fix her right up so she would start going again once a day.. He sent me home with a tub of parrafin, a syringe and a laxative to use but I am not sure when I should use them. What do you guys think? Should I be worried after she did a massive one then nothing for 2 days?

Other than the poop situation - she seems fine. Vet said she is healthy and active. She doesn't seem like she is deteriorating or anything, her belly is fine and not too hard but she is just super restless.

She would be about 3 and a half weeks old now. Her eyes and ears open and she crawls around and won't stay still, keeps waking up by herself and meowing and crawling out of the basket I have her in! She is always meowing and wandering around as if she is searching for something, but she'll suckle on my finger and purr and she'll be fine like that, but that means in order to make her be quiet I have to have her with me 24/7!! Is there such a thing as a kitten pacifier?! I don't know if there is a problem or if she is just exploring or just wants affection? If she was just exploring would she constantly meow ?? I feel like I can't satisfy her needs, I don't know what she wants!

I don't have any other cats or know anybody with cats so I am concerned that she is going to be really dependent on me? She is very demanding now, she won't settle down and stop meowing unless she is suckling on my finger, eating or sleeping. Is that just age?

Anyway, not sure exactly what I need from you but maybe some reassurance or advice if you have been through the same thing. I've never done this before and I just want to know that I'm doing the right thing..
Thanks :)

wnna know what your cat is saying? Here are some things your cat may do and what it means:
rubbing against you= hello (of course!)
rolling on back = cat feels safe with you.
wagging tail fast and growls = don't bother me
looking at you and meows = I'm hungry
purring = of course, your cat is happy. :)

If these are not all of them, please let me know.

so for the last few days we have noticed that claude has been sick a few times (twice) and has dihorrea. he hasnt been like this before and we thought it maybe a cat food we bought (kitekat) so we stopped giving it to him but its the same still. we are a bit concerned becase 2 weeks ago he was neutered could the sickness and dihorrea have anything to do with that? also he has a new flea collar could it be that? he doesnt chew it or fight it so i cant understand if it is the collar? any advice is brilliant.

Okay, I have a confession to make. I have a BEAUTIFUL white copper-eyed persian. I love her to death, and I adore her completely. However, she doesn't adore me back. And she doesn't like to be groomed. I love grooming her - why wouldn't I? She's gorgeous! But, I've been selfish. I've put off spaying her because the only time she'll let me brush her or give her any attention is when she's in heat. I'm afraid if I spay her she'll never love me again. Has anyone else dealt with this? Am I putting my pretty girl in danger by not spaying her? She has no threat of getting pregnant because she's never allowed outside, but I've heard unaltered cats are at risk for other medical problems. What do my TDK friends think?

This is my first time on this forum so ehm hellow, :)

Ok here comes a long storie (sorry)

Me and my boyfriend rented a house for 3months ago, we noticed that the man lived behinde us had a very skinny dog, and with skinny i mean something that could break in 2 at any moment, i could stand on 2nd floor look down to him and count his ribs. I asked the man why his dog was so skinny and he told me that he was taking care of it for a friend (Riight...) and the friend would pick it up in a month or so, a month after + some days the dog was gone, tho some of his stuff was still in the garden. Anyways, a few days later we saw 2 very small kittens (now we know that they where a few weeks old like 2-4weeks) well they where outside pretty much all the time (also in -10C) we kept an eye on them both since we didn't trust the man with animals, then 5 weeks after we saw the kittens we suddenly got visit from a big white/black old male cat, very sweet, was always looking inside and our own kitten (called Benz, got him from a shelter)one day i was alone home in the evening, and i hear a horrible cry coming from outside, i run to the window and see the old cat, but he does look wired, so I open the door and smells right away what that is wrong with him, he is coverd in poop, he dosn't wanna lick it off but he still do it (I assume he didn't like the smell either) I say fuck it, take him inside get cover in shit myself too, go upstairs and clean him, then i dry him, go downstairs, gives him some food and hope him and Benz isn't gonna kill eachother, they don't lucky enough, they just starts to pee everywhere so I decide to let the big male out, put food out everyday for him and if he needs shelter I'll open our gardenhouse and he can sleep there. 2 days ago, Benz go nuts infront of the window, I look outside and see the small cat from the house behinde us, he emptys a full boul (w/e its called) of food under 3min, after that i though ah well he is gonna be full now so i'll just fill it again for the other cat, but I was wrong, he starts to eat again like he never ated before, when i look at him he looks very skinny, I wanted to touch him and feel how skinny he was since the fure make them look bigger and i was shocked, he was more skinny that he look liked when i took him up it was nothing but bones, his powls are bigger than his legs and his head is the biggest thing on the whole body, me and my boyfriend are animal lovers, we can't stand that people leave there pets to themself, i put the cat down on the ground goes inside and talks with my boyfriend about what to do, we go on the internet to see what can happend if we put 2 male cats together, what that would be best and so on. while he was checking that i was looking at the kitten, and it made me sick, his butt was big and red, kinda reminded me of a monkey butt, he was shaking, drity and just crying. We decided to take him to a vet ASAP, she told us he is 3months old, got flues and are very underweight, just under the 2kg, she gave us some pills we could give him for his stomech called Finidiar, when we came him we made a room rdy for him (for his own and my other cat sake) i spend alot of time there, cleaning feeding him (4times a days on small potions) i wake up at the night 3-4 time to check on him that he is still alive and so, but then yesterday when i was cleaning his room (pooing everywhere, even on the wall, don't know how it even got there lol, I don't mind by the way) i saw small blood spots, so he is bleeing a bit out of his butt, What to do ? Shall we go to the vet again? Is it because he eats real food for once? Or got bad stomech? I really want Lucky as we call him to make it, he is a strong kitten (stronger than the other that might be dead since we didn't see it for ages) but he have been though alot, tho he is a better place now (nice warm, safe place with food everyday and always someone around him) Hope you guys can help us

ok so my cat hates outside, but he loves to be with me beside me,
he is neutered and I was wondering if I have his leash and collar on him in the summer or when it's warmer... would he like to be out there? or no? when I bring him out he doesn't run in but he'll end up running in after a few minutes.. does that mean he is ok with going outside?

I never had a cat that was scared of outside so I dont know lol

My 5 month old Kitten has been trying to get out and explore the outside recently. I was going to purchase a cat harness or leash from the petstore and take her for "a walk" or at least explore safely. I was also considering getting one for my older chubby house cat if she'll get out the door.

Any experience with that? Are there any special safety concerns? She has the standard feline shots + Rabies. Should I put a flea collar on her? How easy is it for the cat to get out of the harness?

you all might have heard that a black cat is said to bring bad luck. totally not true!long ago, people used to think cats as "evil spirits" and they would treat them really badly! cats are not evil spirits! Also, some people think that keeping a cat inside a house is cruel. Well, sure they need some outside time, but keeping a cat inside is actually better than having them outside. they will not be harmed by any hazards like poisen mushrooms, ect. as long as you keep the house exciting for your cat, your cat will be fine inside. If not, make a fenced area to prevent the cat from going to dangerous places. so nto recap, kitty myths are not true. So if you ever hear one, don't beleive them!

There is a legend that says siamese are crossed eyed because long ago, two siamese found a valuable artifact. While the other siamese went to tell the emperor what they found, the other had to guard it. The guarding one stared at it so much it became crossed eyed. But that is only a legend. I honestly don't know REALLY why siamese cats are crossed eyed sometimes.
