Sorry if this is poorly written, I just had to write it down.

Well, it all started about 2 weeks ago. I went into my backyard and saw a cute little black kitten. At once I knew I had to have it. My Mom said absolutely no, being we already had 2 cats and a dog.
That didn't stop me though. I was going to catch the Kitten, and at least give it to a good family. The problem was the Kitten was really skittish. Every time I got near it would run away. The first thing I noticed was how vocal it was. It would just stay about 10 feet away from me, and meow meow meow.
Finally I got to the point where I could pet it, and I made the mistake of trying to pick it up. It clawed its way out and ran away. I just took this as a minor set back, and kept up with my constant barrage of taming. One thing that was a set back was my dog getting out and treeing the kitten. I was really scared for the Kitten, but it always managed to get down. Finally one day it was sitting on a low branch. I crept up and started petting it. It was purring and I attempted to pick it up. The Kitten struggled, but finally got comfortable. I took it to my Mom, and of course she started loving it. She told me we could keep it inside, I knew then that we were going to keep it.
The Kitten was scared at first and hid under the couch, but slowly it got used to us. It would come out and love us. It would chase my other cats around, which they did not like. I was in love, and so was my family. It would sleep in my bed, and always wanted to be loved. If you didn't love it, it would protest loudly with its loud meooooowwww.
My Mom went and got its first check up, and the Vet said it was healthy little 1 pound 12 oz. girl. I decided to name her Snickers. My little Snickers. I was so excited about the life it would spend with us. I was always scared about hurting it, because it was so small and fragile. It was about 7 weeks old.
Well one day I was sitting in the recliner. I was playing with Snickers. She was chasing my foot. My Mom asked me to get the boxes next to the recliner. The ones she had told me to take out 2 days ago, but me being lazy had said I'll do it later. I leaned over, and attempted to pick up the box. The box was pretty heavy, so I leaned over all the way. The recliner I guess lifted up at the wood base part.
I was always nervous about the recliner and the kitten. When I heard my other cat meow near the door, I thought it was Snickers. I was like "Where's Snickers?". I knew I was just being paranoid, but I actually couldn't see her.
Then I noticed the a smell ... things sorta got bad from there. I got up out of the recliner. Look in the recliner from underneath, and didn't see Snickers. Then I looked at the ground. Blood.
I started freaking. I circled the recliner, and saw the tail. The tail sticking out from underneath the wooden base. By then my Dad had gotten up. I flipped the recliner over. There was my little kitten. Snickers. Dead. Broken.
I just stood there. Horrified at what I had done. I got closer, and felt her for a heart beat. No. She was dead. My little angle, Snickers. Brutally killed by my own stupidity.
We buried her in my back yard. I picked a spot right next to the tree where I had tamed her. I had earned her trust. Loved her. Killed her. I picked up her limp body and kissed her. I told her I would miss her, and I was sorry. I put her in the ground and covered her up. My little angle, in the ground.
It has only been 2 days since then. I really haven't stopped crying. I feel so horrible. I think about the long life she could have had, and how it was all cut short. I don't exactly blame myself, but I wish it would have never happened.
I just keep having the memory of her dead body when I flipped over that dreaded recliner. Thinking if only I had know. I would still have her. I love you Snickers, and I will never forget you. I also don't think I will ever be the same.
For all the people out there, I just hope you will be careful with your kitten. Love them as much as you can. God works in mysterious ways, I just hope he has a purpose for what has happened to me.

My girlfriend and I just got some kittens about 4 days ago and they are around 4-5 weeks old I would say. They were outside cats from what the handler was saying so we took them in with great love. We have toys and a little kitten hut for them to play in and cute little food dishes and all that.

But...they are extremely skiddish and self-reliant it seems. They didnt eat til the 2nd day, which is understandable as they hid underneath the couches. Over the past 2 days theyve started to sniff around and explore...as of right now, they are running around downstairs playing on the furniture, tackling each other, running on tv stands...you name it.

But my girlfriend or myself can't seem to get one to stay calm in our hands. They start freaking out and hiss at us, clawing to get away. At one point, both have purred in our hands at one time or another on seperate occasions...but theyre still not what I would call tame...

We want them to be comfortable in our hands and to respect us enough to let us pick them up...they run away every time we reach for them, but at times they do play with my hand and finger around a corner or two.

How do we get them to like us enough to play with us comfortable in the open???

Thanks in advance

Hello TDK-ers, I know we are all praying for Amy's recovery-as am I. But could you please sneak in a few prayers for my husband as well today? He is having his cardioversion this morning. The will put him under anesthetic and then use the paddles to shock his heart, in hopes of correcting his heart rhythm. It works about 50% of the time. If it does not work, they will have to put in a pacemaker. He has been through so much this year, with 8 hospitalizations, I really hope this will help him. He is so sick of hospitals, and he needs something that will give him some hope. Thanks for any prayers and good thoughts you can fly his way today.

Kitty poet on "I accidentally killed my kitten"

I just accidentally killed my kitten. I was walking outside my apartment when he ran underfoot and I stepped directly on his head. He died within 10 minutes after this. I've been crying and seeking someone to talk to about this. I know I didn't mean to do it, but I feel terrible nonetheless. Within a half hour of this incident, I called the TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network) hotline to see if someone would have a kind word for me and got the coldest of responses from a person who was only interested in dismissing me and getting off the phone as quickly as possible. The whole conversation took less than 30 seconds. The quickest of rehearsed prayers I've ever heard from a voice completely void of emotion or a kind word of compassion, then silence.
I feel so bad about what happened. I have been raising three kittens and their mother since they were abandoned by my next door neighbors who moved out. I thought I was being a benefit to this cat family as no-one else would take them in, but now I feel terrible for what happened. The mother cat and kittens don't seem afraid of me, they are as loving as ever, even though they were right beside the kitten when the accident occurred. I wonder if they now I'm responsible for this terrible accident.
I am disabled and have been trying to find more appropriate housing for the three kittens (now two) and their mother for three months now, which is the age of the kittens since I took them in as they were just born when they came into my home. I can't say how many organizations I've been trying to contact to see if anyone could help take them in, but they number in the dozens. Now, because of my disability, I see that I can be a real danger to them. If anyone knows someone who lives in the Los Angeles area who would be willing to help take any of these kittens, I would be extremely appreciative. I am disabled and don't have a car to transport any of them which makes finding these kitties a safer home very difficult. Thank you for any help that can be offered.

Well yesterday was an experience in h*ll. I collapsed buying a turkey for Thanksgiving. Was rushed to the hospital. 5-6 hours of waiting then taken into emergency surgery. Incarcerated Femral Hernia the size of a peach or baseball. They had to cut the ligaments and tendon in my thigh to repair--seems I need those for walking. But as you can tell I am fine--hubby brought me my computer so I wouldn't be lonely or bored. Would it suprise you to know that I am actually working on my school work? I could use a prayer or two so I can get out of here. They are the nicest people, but I would like to go home. I was allowed to get up 2 hours ago for the fist time since surgery. Mobility is slow, but I am doing it with no help. I'm a tough old bird my hubby said.

Hi family. I'm just back from the vets. Chris is out, and I'm trying to take in everything they've just told me.

Harry has severe, advanced heart disease. Because it's currently being complicated by his respiratory infection, they can't yet say if he's in heart failure, but the x-ray showed his heart is 50% bigger than it should be, and the scan showed his heart muscle walls are measuring 8.5mm in places (under 6mm is normal, over 8mm is serious).

I have to monitor his breathing over the next few days, dose him with the diuretics they've given me and some tablets that will help regulate the blood flow in his heart. He has a follow up appointment next week, when, if the fluid has reduced enough, they'll start him on beta-blockers. Assuming we get through all this, they'll repeat heart scans every three months. Worse case scenario is we might not even still have him in three months...

I think Chris and I need some hugs, and can Harry have all your prayers and white light, and a few gentle scritches?

I am sure a few of you have noticed me not posting much. Things have been, let's say strange since before my trip to Vegas in March. Long and short is I have been swamped at work and things never stop. When your boss gets the boot you learn things the hard way but I have yet to drop any balls...***fingers crossed as year end nears***

First I want to thank MC for doing the Christmas List. I have not yet even had a chance to open it much less work on cards...maybe they will be Easter cards...LOL

Second, as it was a year ago last week that I lost my father I been a little depressed...well things got a little worse the actual anniversary date. That day my mom got news that she has stage 2 lung cancer. It is not tied to the breast cancer she had last year so that is good but now it is a waiting game and I am 4 states away from her...feeling a little useless.

Third, GOOD NEWS...all the babies are doing great and have grown into their personalities...some WAY more than others.

Fourth, Thank you all for listening, I don't like for people to always read bad news but sometimes it helps to just get it all out...

My Mom, who is 93, went to the hospital last night with a bowel obstruction. This is the 6th time this year. This episode was very painful-they gave her a shot of morphine that only helped for about 20 minutes. Then they couldn't give her any more, and the pain was so bad she was vomiting for several hours. She has gotten very frail over the last 6 months and I am so worried about her. Please keep her in your prayers, if you will. Thanks, littermates.

I recently acquired a new kitten from a friend who couldn't keep it. He is about 4 months old. My existing cat is about 9 months old and also male, but neutered.

I kept them in separate rooms over night, and my existing cat seemed interested in the smell of the new cat, sniffing the cat carrier the new cat came in.

He was wary about approaching the screen I put up in the door but after a few hours became more or less used to the smell of the new cat.

I decided that since my existing cat was not overly hostile, I would let them play this morning. They are currently running around the house chasing each other.

Every now and then there is a growl and a hiss, and they got in a cat tangle twice in the hour. There is very little hair raising and posturing.

My existing cat seems very interested in the new furball, and has ceased to hiss, but the kitten is growling and hissing at my existing cat when he is cornered or backed up into a wall. When he gets out of the corner they continue to chase each other back and forth. The new kitten is equally chasing my existing cat as vice versa.

Does this mean that since they are interacting more or less without too much hissing and spitting, that they are on their way to getting along and I can stop keeping the kitten in the "safe room"? OR have I pushed it too soon?

I need some advice from people who've already dones this sort of thing.

Hey there, I have two kittens about 7 weeks old http://www.flickr.com/photos/mricks/4065622613/ who I rescued and am taking care of until they are ready to be adopted out. They are active, eating and going to the bathroom regularly and well, and are friendly. However, whenever I am with them, they walk around me and cry a lot. This is after they have gone to the bathroom and eaten. They don't think of me as their mother; they don't come to me for comfort but do accept cuddling and petting well.

They have a vet appointment in 2 days, but they do seem healthy (I have raised numerous other kittens in the past). I have just never had any kittens who would cry like this. I pick them up close to me and pet them when they do cry, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Any thoughts?

I ok'd the bloodwork ($202 but my girl is worth it). Will know more tomorrow. Oh, and she is getting a little senile (her wailing at night sometimes is her being confused). She is 16. She doesn't seem to be in pain but I don't want her to get there. I don't know what to do.

Hi,
I got a lot of great advice when I rescued my neighbor's cat that was dying of mange. We have the little girl in our guest bedroom in a kennel, and we must handle her with gloves until she is totally well. She is almost there. So far our 2 house cats don't seem to be aware that she is on board. We will have to bring them together soon. We didn't intend to keep this kitty but once you save their lives and name them, well, it's hard to hand them over. Any suggestions about how to get them to get along? Our two have happy lives (brother and sister) and never fight for real. We don't want to upset their lives.

Hi I am a new kitten owner as of yesterday. I've had a cat before but she was full grown before I lived with her. This kitten is special as she is only 5 weeks old (her mother abandoned her or was killed). A lady found her and took her in until someone could take the kittens. However, I'm scared that she was feeding the kittens people food. Everytime I go to eat ANYTHING (even apple jack's cereal) she meows incessantly and will continue to do so until I am done eating. She will even climb up my leg! She isn't "hungry" because we are feeding her about 5 times a day (vet's orders because she was a little thin) and when she meows for our food we feed her some of her own food but she will eat a bit and then remember what she really wants: Dairy Queen. Any help/suggestions/similar experience? Any help would be great!

Also! She is litter trained but most of the time she doesn't cover her poopoo up with litter when she's done. (Can be very smelly considering she's getting over having worms.) Any suggestions? Thanks!

After a long process, the holiday card list is DONE! Yes, I know, I thought by Oct 15th but I hadn't anticipated Wilma getting sick or my head blowing out. Anyhoo, please email me directly at mollycat71 at yahoo dot com if you didn't get it or if I don't have your email addy. I sent a test email first to see who yahoo would bounce back. It is different every time. Amazingly, NO ONE came back to me. Soooooo, I pray I got all the corrections right. Again, if you can't open it, let me know. I can send you a hard copy. Several folks have asked for one and I have NO PROBLEM doing that. I can run it thru the stamp thingee at work so $$ is not an issue. Thanks for allowing me to do this big project. It was an honor! Happy Holidays!

May I ask that you remember my son, Solomon in your prayers? He has been out of work for 3 months now, and Oregon is facing a 12% unemployment rate. He spends most of his days applying for work but with no success so far. He has hyperthyroid disease that is affecting his eye and making it bulge out. With no health insurance now, he is no longer taking his medication. Though I have offered to buy it, he will not take it saying, "Mom I am 37 and if anything I should be taking care of you and Vic". He is an amazing young man but he really needs a break. He knows I have huge pain issues and he worries about me and also about Victor and his heart problems. OK I am rambling, but just wanted to ask for some of the TDK healing light so that he may soon be able to take care of his own health as well as get back to work. Thanks for any prayers you can send his way.

Well, I've been coughing like a 60 a day person since Sunday, and in bed since 8pm last night having struggled big time through work (which is a nightmare in its own right, as I *still* haven't been paid for September).

I've been up - not in the proper sense, but wrapped in dressing gown zonked on sofa up - for a couple of hours and about to go back to bed any minute. I ache from head to toe, have wrenched my neck with all this coughing, shiver when not spot welded to a hot water bottle, and am now starting on the snot cycle...

The cats have been slightly worse than useless today, with the exception of Nurse Eric, who would occasionally thunder up onto the bed, stamp up towrads me and headbut whichever bit of body was poking out from under the duvet. My resulting grunt would convince him I was still alive, and he would happily collapse next to me for a bit.

So. I have one question. Why oh WHY in this age of advanced science, men on moon, organ transplants, lycra and edible knickers can't they invent a cough medicine that doesn't taste like ****? Really not what you need when you feel like heaving anyway...

I admit; I'm envious. Seeing articles like this make me want to cry because they found something they were good at and made a fortune doing it, and they didn't have to sing, model, play sports, or act to get that rich. Being executives, they are most likely taught how to invest to reap maximum returns, and they will never have to worry about where their next anything is coming from, and neither will any children they bring or brought into the world. I'm still trying to find out what I'm good at doing besides being anxious.

and with those words my heart and stomach crashed to the floor. I was absolutely devastated.

Please, put down the whack bonk sticks, we will stand down at the moment. The NS was LIVID that his office did not get me in FIRST THING Monday morning. He got more than two earfuls from me about his staff. As suspected, he did NOT get my messages or the seriousness of my situation until the ER Doc called him. He commended me on my stubborness and wherewithall to go to the ER on my own accord. He said that most likely saved my life.

We went thru the whole situation and he sat back and said "you just can't seem to get over this. You are amazing" He said that this is almost unheard of for the fluid buildup to be so great that there is a blow up. He has never seen it before, ever. He has been practicing a good 20 years. He used to practice at the Univ of Chicago so I know he saw some crazy stuff.

He said he knew I was intelligent and had already researched everything so he wasn't going to beat a dead dog. He said here's our options:
1. Pray it heals itself
2. Wait for all the cultures to come back and get an MRA. He wants to see if
he can visualize the tear in my brain coverings. He also wants a measure
of how much fluid I have built up in the back of my head.
3. Go in IMMEDIATELY if I spike a fever, ooze again, or tests come back
positive for meningitis or some disease like that.

He was honest, said if I thought the last surgery was rough this is horrific! Essentially he would go back in and undo what he did, re-do what he did, put a drain in my brain, feeding down thru my spine and exit out by my tailbone into a bag. Then I would be required to lie completely flat on my back in the ICU for 5 days. After five days they would scan to see if the "patch" healed and measure my intercranial pressure. If all was "normal" and "healing" he would go back in and remove the drain tube. Then I would go home and heal.

Oh family, I am devastated. I feel like I have a thousand pounds on my shoulders. I am very, very, emotional right now. I feel like I have burdened this group with WAY too much already. IF it is not too much to ask, pray for me. Right now I am waiting to hear from my insurance on how soon I can get in for tests-he marked URGENT/STAT/ASAP. I just don't know how much more this one girl can take. If there are typos, Wilma keeps walking across the keyboard and I am not gonna go all the way back up and check. You guys have worried about me too long now! Sorry so long to post!

Hey everyone!

So, I was doing some work and raja comes along looking for attention. He meows by my leg and i prepare for him to jump onto my lap (he loves sleeping there) anyways, he only gets 2 of his paws onto my shorts and begins to slip
He deploys his rear claws...on my leg... Its about an 8 cm cut in length. It did bleed but .. I applied antiseptic/washed it/pressured it. Hes had all his shots and im up to date on tetanus. Should i be concerned?

ok i have 2 cats that really havent been around each other. and i heard them going at it. cherrakee already isnt nice, she is what we call a loner, only likes females and hates other cats other than the ones that live with her. and well we all know spaz, a curious kitty. well spaz was in the spare bed room with the litter boxes, and cherrakee's spot is up under the bed in the same room. i heard this unGodly noise and sure enough it was cherrakee and spaz about to fight. good thing i went in there to see what was going on. i want those 2 to get along but idk how because they r completely different. how can i get them used to eachother with out them killing one another?

Biddy has been having trouble breathing. He has been breathing through his mouth since early this morning. I leaned in close and it sounds like he is stuffed up and can't breath through his nose. Any suggestions to clear up his stuffiness? He doesn't feel like he is feverish and otherwise seems normal. He just has his mouth open all the time so he can breathe. Please send your white light and prayers for Biddy.
