Hello, Im new here. Im trying to find someone who maybe can help me find answers to a health problem in my moms kitten. She found a litter of 4 kittens, took care of them and got their shots, then eventually got rid of 3. She kept the 4th one because she didnt think he was well, because he stayed very small and had copper colored eyes, almost orange. Since then he has been fine, playing and eating everyday. He is now 8 months old and this morning he took a turn for the worst. He was unresponsive this morning so my parents rushed him to the vet. The vet listened to all his symptoms and looked through their books to come to the discission that he has a extra vein in his body that is causing toxic waste to stay in his liver. They say he will have to get surgery to remove the vein and even if he gets the surgery he may not make it. We have no clue what to do because we cant afford to pay for this surgery. We are wondering if anyone knows of a website where I can look up rare defects in kittens or if anyone can give us advice on what to do. We dont understand why it took 8 months for him to get deathly ill, this is why we want to look up more information about what the vet calls a Port vein. Please help us if you can. Any information is greatly appreciated

Hi, My name is Peg and I am new to the forum, although I have been coming to TDK for a long time. I have one cat now, Ashton, who is 14 and has the beginnings of kidney disease. Ashton lost his companion Callie, who was also 14, last summer and is now starting to act depressed and like he would like to have another companion. Thanks to TDK and Pam, tomorrow I am adopting Comet, who was featured last week with his sister, Luna. I can hardly wait to get him and I think he will be fun for Ashton to have around. I know there may be a few problems but I can put Comet into the bathroom when I need to be gone, if I need to keep them apart for a while. I hope everything goes well with this adoption. I still can't believe no one else wanted Comet - he is so cute!

Hi, my name is Karma. I'm a new army wife, and my husband is stationed in the middle of nowhere in Alaska. I decided to get a puppy and kitten to keep me company.
I've had the puppy (Bones) for about 2 weeks, and just got the kitten (Sulu) a couple days ago. He is 10 weeks old, and he was a rescue. His previous owners left him and his sister when they moved, so when people came to replace the carpet, they came running out of the closet, half starved. His sister got adopted right away, but I took him in a couple weeks later. he was very skittish at the shelter, so they told me to be very cautious. Well, he warmed up to me right away. He cries if I walk more than 10 feet away from him! He is the cutest thing, very vocal, and LOVES to cuddle.

Hi. I wanted to post and introduce myself to the forums. I had already posted asking questions about my new kittens. Perhaps I should of done this first; however, I was in need of answers for my sick kitten so I got right to the boards :-)

I'm Carrie. Last Wed. night I got two new kittens. We found these kittens four weeks ago in a storage container outside at my work. There were 4 kittens. They were bright eyed and hobbling around. We estimated they were about 3 weeks. Since I had no experience with teensy baby kittens, a co-worker had a neighbor who was allegedly experienced with that so she took them until they were old enough to come with me.

So, last week when I picked them up they were so dirty. Ulysses was much smaller than gus (originally these two were the biggest in the litter) and had poo, food, and other stuff caked on his poor entire back side, legs, tail, etc.. Basically this woman stuck them in a portable type kennel and just let them alone for long hours while she was at work, to sit, play, sleep in their own poo. If I had known that I would have taken them right in myself.

So, I bring them back and Ulysses begins to look even worse. He has been to the Vet 4 times in one week, 3 subQ shots of fluid, 2 antibiotics, and an anti-vomiting med later, he is starting to perk up a bit. I've fallen in love very quickly. I have to keep monitoring him but his poops are looking good, he's eating like a champ, keeping it down (thanks to the meds now, I think), starting to play with his brother -- he's becoming more like a kitten:-) a healthier kitten.

My life right now is upside down because of the new guys, but I don't mind it so much as I know it will get more back to normal as they get a little bigger and Ulysses gets a bit healthier. I'm a big time runner, biker, swimmer and I've managed to avoid doing most of that in the past week. I did sneak out for a run this morning since my boyfriend is at my house most of the day with the kittens today.

Hi! I have a wonderful and super petite four year old cat named Max. Max lives with big Cat spooky who is two years of age. We have had Max longer than Spooky, and Max has always had this problem....Max likes to grind up his poop and pee in the litter box. He goes in the corners/sides, along the wall of the box and then mashes it up. Max is in the box for a good amount of time, clawing the box,-(really noisy)...Also, he kicks up so much litter, getting everywhere, even though we have this big igloo type box. Since Max is a grinder, the liter can't really do its job and control odor, and unfortunately we have a smaller apartment. Since Max has always had these behaviors, I know it has nothing to do with Spooky. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone. I was asked to start a new topic. I have two cats that remain in our family. We have Sassy a 7 month old siemese mix. Her name fits every bit of her. Abby Jacks sister. She is a multi-colored tabby mix. She is playful and mouthy when she wants your attention. Jack was my baby. He used to love to give kisses and just light up the room when he was in it. He was not very vocal but I called him Jack because he would wink at you so It made me think of a pirate and the first pirate that came to mind was Jack Sparrow. Abby got her name because since the day I brought her home she would sit on the bed and watch ncis with me. Hence Abby. I have had cats for as long as I can remember. My first when I was 1 and she had a litter when I was two and died shortly after. That is how I got my cat Tonya. She lived for 17 years. She lived a very long and fulfilled life. She died when I was 19. At my mothers house I have a 10 year old cat name Pete he is part ocelot, and Barbara who is 5. She is my little lion. Well that is it. And thank you guys for the warm welcome and your sympathy on my loss of Jack.

Hi - I'm new to the forums, although I've been a TDK fan for quite awhile. I'm a sucker for cute kitten pictures. Awwwwww.

I am owned by two orange kitties, Tigerlily and Firefly. They are (literally!) alley cats; born in a back alley to a feral mama cat. I adopted the two girls in the litter and a friend adopted the two boys. Mama cat was eventually persuaded indoors, too.

I still think of my two girls as kittens, but they are actually 14 years old. They've given me quite an education in how to accustom a feral kitty to indoor life. It required patience but was also a lot of fun.

I moved to Pakistan -one month agoto care for my husbands widowed mother. Three days ago my husband and i decided we wanted a kitten to love and take care of. So, he went out for awhile and when he returned he had bought a 8 week old silver persian. My husband knows like...nothing about cats really. So apparently these "pet shops" are in deplorable conditions and our kitten, named akita, was the youngest and smallest of about 100 cats, all kept in the same big cage. I first noticed a terribly disguisting smell and I ignored it, thinking she probably had to sleep in cat feces since she is the smallest of 100 older cats, i just assumed she needed a bath, then when I held her the day she came to our home, it was clear to me that she had an extremely high fever so I delayed the bath. The first night she seemed fine. The fever had gone away fast on its own so I did not feel it was a big emergency at that point. But the next morning when we woke up, the fever had returned and was very hard to bring down.(that was 24 hours ago) NOW the poor lil baby...I started to really check her out today(day 2 1/2)She has had a high fever for 2 days (have not used a thermometer, just I could feel this fever is high on her tummy and her foot pads)aside from the fever, she has the black residue in her ears, which I assume is ear mites, she has what I think is severely matted hair on her neck. like hair balls- the hair is hardly noticable on these 'balls' so then I started to think it might be some really gigantic deformed ticks or something) ALSO she has on her back hip area a very large perfectly circular black patch. she is extremely underweight. Her breathing is very rapid. and she appears to have conjunctivitis in her right eye. She is lethargic and dehydrated. She has a healthy appetite but only drinks very lil water and has only urinated 2-3 times since coming home, and all the time she only has urinated a few small drops each time. I am very concerned, i feel so bad for her, I want to help her to feel well and healthy and happy. But i do not trust Pakistani vets becausein 2006 we were here too and we had a small black and white colored persian kitten, the shop we bought him from sold him although he was only 1 week old(much too young to be away from moms milk) and he developed a fever and lethargy so my husband took him to a nearby vet and the vet gave him- get this- childrens tylenol!!! He passed away within an hour.I feel that here it just seems that people care more about money than about life- it disguists me!I want to help this lil baby girl so badly, but i am really not sure what to do and at this point I don't know if any vet is trustworthy here too. She is laying beside me as I type, sleeping, she is so precious and really loving and affectionate and will gobble up any affection I give to her. i am already in love with her. This is the second sleepless night i have had trying to just make her comfortable. And I'm really not sure if she's gonna make it til morning. My husband is taking her to a vetrinary hospital in a few hours, if she survives that long. I am desperate to give her a little relief and comfort. My heart is breaking and I feel so helpless now.
Thanks for listening. Any encouragement and advice will be appreciated very much:)

Hey just saying hello :) This place seems like a great place to chat about kitty cats. I got here by googling about revolution product for kittens.

I have 3 beautiful cats they our our children for now hehe. We just got a new kitten in the family (which made our 3rd cat) she's so adorable it's so fun to watch her beat up our 14 and 9 pound cat lol. Sweety is her name, 14pounder is Sox and the 9 pounder is Ricky.

We've had sox for 7 years now. He doesn't really care to much for the other cats even though we bought ricky to keep him entertained lol. So then that didn't work and we bought sweety to keep ricky entertained I think she's going to complete the cat family. I'll have to upload some pictures hehe.

Hi I'm samye and I just adopted a new kitten. I'm not sure if it's male or female yet because every time I go to look it protests. (it's shy) Anyhoo I usually say she just cuz I'm used to girl kitties. She's the youngest I've had (only about 4.5 weeks old) and hurt herself pretty bad the 3rd day I had her. She fell off the back of the couch and hurt her neck, so she has to wear a brace for a while till it heals. If it's a girl (for sure) I'm naming her Nova and if it's a boy my boyfriend is insisting on the name Spartan. Either way it's the cutest kitty out of the litter, the only one that wasn't black. (She's a dusty gray color with points on her ears, paws, and tail) I'm just here to hear kitty stories and learn tips on taking good care of her :)

Hi!
My fiance and I just got a new kitten Yesterday named Dinah. I was told she was 7 wks. I had a few questions...
Yesterday she pooped in the floor i cleaned it up and everytime i saw her eating or drinking, I'd wait a minute and take her into bathroom where her litter box is and simulate the scratching gently with her paws. She's used it a few times since then, but the only time she did on her own was over night when i had her shut into the bathroom. The rest of the times I had to take her into the bathroom and set her in the box. She peed on the floor where she pooped yesterday so i cleaned it up and set some stuff in that corner so she can't get to it. Her box isn't that far away. she spends most of her time in the den and her food and the litter box are about equal distance since the kitchen is on one side of the den and the main bathroom is on the other side. I don't know how to get her to go in there on her own.

I'm also wondering if she's not as active as she should be. Mostly she just sleeps in my lap. I figured she'd be running around a bit more.

Also yesterday when we got her home i noticed a little eye boogie in her right eye. i wiped it off gently but then later there was another one. This morning he eye was almost glued shut with it. Is this the symptom of that Upper Respiratory disease I've read about, or is this normal?

hey all!

I'm new here, just joined the other day with an issue over my two baby kitties getting along.

I'm a 22 year old Veterinary Assistant student and am so excited for the program that I'm taking in college.

I have two bundles of fur, one is seven weeks old, and one is eleven weeks old.

Aerienne (aka Aerie) is the newest addition and has only been here for about half a week. she's a white kitten with cream tabby stripes and a dark grey tabby striped tail. Right now her eyes are this bright baby blue colour, but I don't know if they're going to change or not, sometimes it looks like they are and others it looks like they never even offered to change. She looks like a point kitty, but I'm not sure what kind, she's a kitty mutt who followed me home and smelled like an old barn, so I bathed her and absolutely love her and my older kitten Izzy now seems to love her as well.

Isabelle Ebony (aka Izzy) is a brown-black long haired female with soft tan eyes with a bit of green around the pupil. she was the first kitty I got here in my new apartment and she was about 8 weeks old when I first brought her home. she has a very loving personality and enjoys a good cuddle time and she absolutely ADORES her new crinkle bag fish that I got her at wal-mart the other day, it has quickly become one of her favorite toys, the other of which is a blue cat-nip mouse with a rattle in it's tail.

when I first brought Aerie home, Izzy was weary of her and didn't like her at all, but within the past couple of days that's changed and Aerie is now her new best friend. I thought that getting a second kitten would do Izzy some good in the long run as I am a college student and I am in class during the day and they are both indoor kitties so Izzy seemed to be getting a little lonely. I got her a friend, and she loves her new friend, despite the fact that there is still some occasional hissing, but most of the time it's just play and fun.

Well that's a bit about my furry babies and myself!

Well, I guess I'll start at the beginning, first let me apoligize in advance, its kind of a long story.
So my daughter will turn 5 in two days, and for at least 2 years she was wanted a kitten, so we recently moved back to my hometown, after living in texas for over 2 years, and we are now in a part of our lives that we are ready to have a kitten. So yesterday was adopt a pet at PetsMart, so we went and the only kitten available to adopt wouldn't be ready till next weekend. So we checked the newspaper and there were a few listings for free kittens, so I made many calls, left messages and finally, well only after about 30 minutes a woman called back. She said she had 1 kitten left from the litter and we could go get her, so we did. Well we bought all the stuff a kitten needs, the kind of food she was already eating, meow mix, litter box, toys, etc. And when we brought her to her new home my daughter wanted to hold her, I said it was ok, with supervision of course, but to soon put her down so she could get use to her new home and let her wonder around. Well she hid behind the fridge and I noticed there was a hole in the wall, I guess so you can get to the plumbing to the bathtub. So we waited for her to come out on her own. My cousin and her bf were there and she went walk around outside and found the kitten in the bushes outside, but her flea collar wasn't on, we figured she lost in when she was roaming in the walls. So 4 adults and 1 child are chasing this kitten for at least 2 hours, its starting to rain, and we are all getting filthy, we have a huge ditch behind the neighbors house, she ran through it and under the fence across the way. We officially lost her. Well just at that moment another lady calls back asking if we still needed a kitten
So after talking to family, friends, my daughter, and fiancee we decided to try this again, we covered the hole, made sure there were no more and went to get the 2nd kitten. I told the very nice lady this whole story while hailee, my daughter was trying to decide which one to get, and the ladys husband recommended we get 2, sisters from the same litter so they would have a companion and it would be better all around. So we did. These kittens are a little older, and bigger than the 1st kitten.
When we brought them home 1 just really liked me, sat on the couch with me and the other let my daughter and her 2 friends carry her around like a baby, played and was perfect for her, we names her hannah, and the one who liked me miley. Like hannah montaana. So after a long day the 2 kittens fell asleep together on the couch, THEN I heard a little "meow, meow".
Miley and hannah are asleep, the 1st kitten is back? So removed the fridge again, unblocked the whole and tried luring her out, she came out finally. We repatched the hole and now we have 3 kittens.
When we woke up this morning the litter box had been used, some of the food had been eaten and water, great!
Well here comes the problem, the 2 sister kittens and the 1st kitten hiss at each other and now they are all hiding, even the sisters seem not to want to have anything to do with us.
So what should I do?
Any suggestions? I'm considering finding a home for the 1st kitten, whom we have named Heidi, since she hides so much. But I'm really not sure where to go from here. PLEASE HELP

Hi there....my name is Lori, and I've been lurking here for a few weeks. I finally decided to join, based on my belief that this is a place with members who have a real love for their cats and a sense of community.

I've always been a cat person, and always had a cat in my life, but up until the last year or so, my life has centered more around that of my family and raising my children. My cats have always been loved and cherished, but they were definitely "pets" if you understand my meaning. I don't know how to put it another way. I was also married to a man who didn't see cats as all that important. Needless to say, I got rid of the husband and kept the cats....LOL! I'm been remarried for 5 years to a wonderful man who, while he claims he's not a cat person, certainly indulges me in my love for our babies and gives them plenty of love and attention, too.

Now that my children are grown and doing their own things, I guess I've had the empty nest syndrome descend upon me. The kitties have really become the foreground in my life. I have two sons in the military; one is in the Army and currently deployed in Iraq, and the other is in the Navy and a sonarman aboard the USS Alabama submarine. Anyone who's seen the movie Crimson Tide knows my boy's boat! I have a daughter living in South Korea with her Army MP husband and her son....my two other daughters live at home with us, but are pretty independent. I'm the proud Nana to 5 grandchildren, and one is scheduled to make his or her arrival sometime early next year. I guess my worries about my kids have given me this need for comfort that my cats provide. In turn, they are spoiled rotten.

My brood:

Edward, my big, fat domestic short hair. He is the most loveable, sweet guy on earth. He's also insanely jealous and loves attention.

Lucy, a kitty we rescued last year after some tenents of a house across the street were evicted and just left her behind. She's an Oriental mix, and was skin and bones when we found her. Now she's fat and happy and loves to give kisses.

Chicken, my daughter Kat (!)'s cat. She's a gray domestic longhair. She's very sweet and a little kooky.

Seamus, a mackeral siamese mix. He's absolutely the most affectionate boy in the world.

Morrigan Rose is our newest baby....she's Chicken's offspring. She's gray and white, shorthaired, and the love of my life.

The reason why I began reading this forum is because when Chicken gave birth to Morrigan and her brother, O'Malley, there were a lot of complications. Both kittens were promised to people who backed out at the end, and when they were 4 weeks old, Chicken went a bit crazy and stopped caring for them. They were tiny and tenacious and I began caring for them in earnest, and something in me took over. It was like caring for a newborn. Both had some problems, and little Morrigan, who was the runt, developed an upper respiratory problem when she was just 6 weeks old. Frantic vet appointments ensued and she pulled through, but her brother contracted it, too....and he was just not strong enough. For 5 days we fought...he saw two vets....but in the end, he passed, and my heart has been broken ever since. I've never lost a baby like that. He was 13 weeks old. I held him in my arms and sobbed, and saw my husband cry for the first time in the 10 years I have known him.

I guess I just need to be around people who understand.

My name is Danielle. Ill be turning 31 on Wed. I have a 7 year old, Mina and just found a kitten at less than 1 week old. She’s now 7.5 weeks old. I’ve named her Destiny. She was in a 2nd story parking garage under a van. Now that I look back at the situation I wonder if she was put there as a ploy to get someone over to the van. I was with my mom at the time. I tried to take her to SPCA but they didn’t have the staff to feed her because she was so young. I had always thought of getting another cat for my Mina to play with. She is an indoor cat and seems lonely sometimes. I just don’t know if she'd get along with another cat. Well now I guess I’m forced to try. Destiny is going for her shots today and I hope I can now introduce the two of them. They have had little contact until now. They are both females. I was really hoping Destiny ended up being a Destin (male). Only time will tell.

Hello!

I am a very proud foster mom to four little kittens - Bella, Confucius(Foo Foo), Tommy Tiger and Mowgli. I have had them since about two weeks old, they were turned into a rescue the day I was in to adopt. I knew when the moment that I saw there little faces that I was going to try my best at being their kitty mom! From bottle feeding to kitten sitters, its been a crazy ride but it is so worth it to come home to four little purring faces that love you just as much as you love them!

I am excited about this site and how you all can answer some of my questions and I will do my best to help with yours!

Thanks

Hi
We adopted a tiny 8 wk old kitten from the humane society Fri and we love him so much already. He hasn't yet gotten his first set of shots b/c he isnt up to weight yet. Little rugrat only weighs 1.4 lbs. I was wondering, we were looking at getting him declawed, but that was before i really looking into how exactly they do it n im not so sure i want him declawed based on the process. I saw the website for the soft paws, and was wondering if anyone uses them and what they think.

Hi Everyone,

My beautiful kitten Roxy is 6 months old now. She is a silver Maine Coon and the baby in our house.

Roxy has been litter trained since she was 5 weeks old. She has 2 litter trays, one down stairs, one up stairs (she likes to wee in one and poo in the other). I clean them twice a day and change the litter every 2-3 weeks.

In the past week Roxy has started weeing on the kitchen floor!! for no apparent reason. Me and my husband have told her off and put her in her litter tray and basically done everything we can but she is still doing it!!
I am watching her like a hawk now and when she disappears I sneak about to find out what she's up to!! I can tell when she needs to go as she starts to scratch the floor or front door at which point I gently pick her up and put her on her litter tray but she wont go! Yesterday she actually pretended to go, she dug a little hole and squatted down but didnt do anything, then 5 minutes later there's a big puddle on the floor!!

Please can you advise me why she might be doing this, all of a sudden! She is very spoilt and treated like a princess, gets the best food, more toys than a child, best beds, all the attention she could wish for, so why is she doing this???

I look forward to hearing from you all.
