Hi Everyone, I have a problem.
I am concerned about 2 of our 10 kittens. They are 3 weeks old. They are the smaller ones of the litter. We have been supplementing with milk recommended by the pet shop. Mum had separated one of the smaller ones from the litter (she'd left it in my daughter's cupboard). Once we found it, it was very lethargic and now has the runs everytime we try to feed it. Any suggestions for the kittens and mum would be appreciated

Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself, Kit, and my little lady Soda. Soda is a 4 month old domestic short hair who spent her early days at the pound before being rescued by a cat shelter, and then adopted by yours truly when she was 9 weeks old! She's a crazy littly thing who is currently attacking the words on the screen as I type, but I really don't know what I'd do without her!

I come from a very pro-dog/anti-cat family, so rather than boring my kin with my various kitten tales, I've come to share them with people who are likely to be a little more receptive :D

I'm a new cat owner too so I'm looking forward to all the advice and knowledge I can get into the inner workings of Soda's crazy little head!

hello, i'm a brand new user and i just thought i'd try my luck with trying to find help for this little issue i'm having! i have two kittens, a 4 month old precious, red persian, and a 6 month old beautiful black girl. my roommate adopted the persian but found that she could not handle the responsibilities of taking care of him, so, me being the cat fanatic i am, decided to take him in. his name is Juno and my girl's name is Victoria (aka Tori), they absolutely love each other so i can't bare to separate them. the only problem i'm having is that Juno continues to do his business on the floor! both of my cats have their claws and i'm not going to get them declawed (i know that declawed cats are extra sensitive to cat litter after their operation), so that's not the issue. I have two litter boxes for the two of them, and i keep them VERY clean... i change the litter about once a week and i scoop out the waste almost every time they use it. I've been looking at other sources and i know that some cats are sensitive to certain scents that kitty litter tends to have, so i switched to unscented just for Juno (Tori hasn't had this problem at all, she's very mindful of where to do her business). I've been keeping up these habits for about a week now but for some reason Juno still keeps using the floor as his potty, very occasionally have i seen him use his litter pan. I can get him to pee in the litter box, but several times i've caught him about to poop on the floor and when i've physically moved him into the litter box he'll go maybe a little bit, hop right out, and finish on the floor. i'm not really sure what to do! please help, he's such a sweet boy and i'm getting super frustrated trying to get him to go in the box! he didn't start out this way, and i think because my roommate very rarely kept his box cleaned he developed the habit of going on the floor, so i'm basically trying to retrain him. is there any other reason he could be going on the floor?

Hello everybody,

I am Morrighaan and I am a cat-oholic 
I found this site because everybody seems so helpful and knowledgeable and I’ve been reading everything and anything about cat physiology and behavior since I need help.

I have an 8 year old female cat, Kiska, that I adopted when she was only 3-4 weeks of age. She was one of four kitten litter and when 3 kittens died, the cat mother stopped feeding her. I took her in, bottle fed her and since then she is an apple of my eye and was until 4 weeks ago an only and an indoor cat. Now from what I am reading, I guess it wasn’t so healthy to adopt her at such an early age because she grew up to be a very anxious cat. Doesn’t adapt to new environments easily, very sensitive to sounds, new people in the house (when our friends or family come over, she always stays somewhere in the closet until they leave), doesn’t like to be pet most of the times, sensitive stomach, etc. But, otherwise, she is a spoiled girl and my boyfriend and I love her silly. Recently our vet said that she is overweight and because we both work during the day and don’t get home until evenings, she really just sleeps under the blankets all day long.

Four weeks ago, we adopted a new kitten from the shelter to join our family. I did my research ahead of time and we picked a 4 month old, neutered male kitten thinking that it would be easier for our cat to adapt to. We kept them separated, kitten in our office with toys, litter box, food, etc for about a week swapping toys and towels for scents and keeping the door cracked so they can hear each other. After a week, the kitten started to get curious and was trying to get out and explore what’s beyond the door. We started to introduce them “face-to-face” by bringing out the kitten to my older kitty in a box so she can sniff him, gradually increasing visits.

The situation as of today, it’s been four weeks….Kiska hates the newcomer, she hides away in the bedroom under the blankets (her safe zone) all day long and only comes out freely at night when we lock the kitten or when we separate them (lock him in the office which is his “safe zone”). When they have face-to-face, which the kitten always instigates, she growls and hisses at him and when he tries to play with her (by jumping or trying to touch her) she slaps him. He is very much submissive to her, shows her his belly, lays down in front of her burring his face in his paws and does kind of chirp meows. On the other hand, he gets bored by just laying there in front of her wants to play and jumps on her (playfully) or if they meet in the living room, her reaction is to run back to the safe zone and his reaction is to chase her. I am sure she perceives all of his “moves” as aggressive. When he is in the office she has no desire to even go near it and really wants nothing to do with him.

I know that introductions take time, but it’s been a month and they still can’t be left alone unsupervised. Their relationship is not moving forward by no means because my old cat is either staying the hell away or being defensive (growling, hissing and slapping him if he gets to close). We are giving both of them equal attention. I am constantly bribing my older cat with new toys, catnip and tuna. I don’t know what to do at this point and can’t find any useful info online. I want them to get along. I’ve ordered Feliway diffusers, they are still in the mail. Anybody has any other suggestions what to do meanwhile? I don’t want her to feel scared of him and don’t know how to make kitten way less “excited” when he sees her and her less stubborn.

Hi everyone I joined yesterday because I was looking for some advice on my new 4 mo. Siamese kitten Jet. I received so much great input it is so greatly appreciated! I am also mommy to Mokey, a 5 month old Balinese (Ragdoll)that we adopted from the Humane Society. Both have such different personalities, we adopted Mokey when he was only 9 weeks old and he immediately loved us. It was our first experience with a cat and we were totally awed by his affection. Jet we took in at 13 weeks and he is taking his sweet time getting attached to us. He loves his new brother they wrestle and play and Mokey grooms Jet already. It's adorable.

My husband is having a hard time with Jet because he is so used to Mokey as being an easy going kitty who never says no to affection. Jet has taken to biting and cries when we pick him up. So between my husband and Jet it can be a little bit of a struggle! Last night was the first night we all slept in the same room and it went pretty well. Mokey and Jet slept on their bed and only when Mokey came over to get some cuddle time with Dad did Jet come over to our bed, and he actually slept curled up on my neck. I was so happy that he is finally getting closer to me, now if only Jet and hubby could see eye to eye that would make it so much better!!

I so look forward to hearing everyones stories and accepting all the great help that is on this forum!

Hello cat lovers. We just adopted a 9 month old kitten, and named him Rascal.
Rascal comes from the cat shelter, he's a bit big for 9 month old. Wewanted a pal for Picabo our older kitty. Rascal earned his name right away, spunky and loving. Rascal is terrified to go outside. At the shelter he had already been brought back by another adopter. I need a little help with Rascal. His play with Picabo turns to biting. We are cat people alll the way. He's just a cute tabby that was on the "no one wants me" list at the shelter. But he's a bit hard on our Picabo. We need help to understandRascal. Can you help? This is my very first post.Cats are our lives. Jen Hakanson in Southern california.

Hello everyone :)

This looked like a friendly, helpful group of people so I thought I'd join in and introduce myself. My husband brought home a tiny ball of fluff that he found outside of an auto parts store. This little girl, all thirteen ounces of her, had summoned the strength to step out of the bushes and shiver on the cold cement of the parking lot. The big, burly mechanics helped my tender-hearted husband search the area around the shop for her mommy or siblings; to no avail.

So, he brought her home to me and our four children and two dogs. That was four weeks ago and we just can't imagine life without her now! The first week was tough as the vet warned us she was very dehydrated and needed to be bottle fed every 3-4 hours round the clock. We shouldered the responsibilities together, Dan and I.

There is nothing more adorable than to see a half-asleep, six-foot tall, strong man holding a tiny one pound ball of fur on his tummy trying to get more of the KMR milk on her little tongue than on the make-shift burp cloth at 3am. :)

Anyway, though we weren't planning to add any more fur-children to our already full home, little Zuzu made herself room in our hearts.

Glad to find a place to share her because our entire family thinks we're crazy for keeping the little thing. I know you all will completely understand how it feels to be smitten by a tiny abandoned kitten.

hugs,

We adopted Duncan when he was 8 weeks old!

We were a little concerned how Callie (Calpurrnia)our 4-year old cat-who-thinks-she's-a-dog, would fare with this little scrambling fuzzball, as she had until that day, only played with dogs!

It took about 3 days till we noticed she was growling and running away from him less and trying to play with him more.

As you can see by my avatar.... a little more than a week later....
IT WAS LOVE!

Hello! I just found this forum a few days ago and am so impressed with the level of knowledge and compassion you all have. So excited to be a part of this community! I've been a cat lover my whole life, but have always been a one cat kinda girl - my 19 year old Whiskers, who I got for my 6th birthday, passed away 2 years ago.

I recently moved somewhere that I could have pets again, and took in my landlord's cat Sugar, a sweet 14 year old neutered "boy" who was at the bottom of the pecking order in my landlord's house. hhhhhhhhhhhhhbjjhjuy (That was Sugar saying hello as he walked across the keyboard).

I adopted a new kitten, Walden, about 2 weeks ago. Walden was discovered crying in a crawlspace behind the storage closet in the local fishermen's union. It was just him, no mother or siblings to be found. The vet estimated he was 5-6 weeks old when I took him last week, so he's a tiny little guy. A total lover, though. Right now he's passed out purring in my lap after an energetic play session.

Walden is a kitten, and has a lot of energy. Sugar is an old lap cat and doesn't. They get along pretty well, though sometimes Walden is a bit much for Sugar and Sugar will bat Walden's ears and run away from him. Walden adores Sugar, but Sugar is only tolerant of Walden. I was thinking of adopting another kitten or young adult cat closer to Walden's age so Walden will have someone to play with and Sugar can continue to sit on my lap in peace. Would adding another kitten into the mix help Sugar by taking Walden's attention off of him, or would it increase Sugar's stress by adding yet another pet into the mix? In addition, I live in a studio cabin that's about 24' x 24'. Is this too small an area for 3 cats? Thanks in advance for any advice. Hopefully I'll be able to give some soon as well!

Hi everyone,I've been reading posts for several days and decided to just jump right in. My hubby and I have been very lucky to share our lives with some very special furry children over the last 25 years. We recently got a rescue kitten from a friend and she's had some struggles with ringworm. In all of our cat loving years, we've never had to battle this horrible beast before...guess we've been very lucky. Clarice is 12 weeks old and still weighs under 2 lbs but healthy. She's lost quite a bit of fur and the vet put her on itraconazole 12 days ago as soon as she got big enough. Now for my questions, she's lived in the master bathroom for a month now to keep from infecting all of us with ringworm. I scour the bath daily with bleach, she's sleeping on puppy pads that I throw away daily, her toys either get bleached or thrown away every other day and she's getting baths every 4 days so when do I consider her no longer contagious and allow her into the house?

well im 23yrs old, married, with a beutiful lil girl and a baby boy on the way! me and my husband last nite was on our way to church only for him to stop in the middle of the highway (its a bridge over water highway)and swearve. he runs out of the car to find a poor little kitten abandoned on the side of the road with a bit of a busted eye and a bad bad cold (most likely upper respitory infection). she eats fine, walks fine, meows, but really wont drink too much. she is just a few weeks winged she is sooooo tiny. very fluffy though. but pretty much my hubby broke down and took her to the vet today (even though he "hates" cats). so pretty much i am a new owner! please pray everything will go well and that the vet bill will not be too high!! lol

Hey y'all! I'm so excited to have found this wonderful site. After reading so many posts... everyone seems to be so sweet and to love the little 'furbabies' as much as I do.
So where do I start? I have a friend who recently had cat who had 6 kittens and I promised her that I would take one of the kittens off her hands. I went to her house and 'I' was chosen by a sweet orange tabby with a white chest and white legs. He is sweet as ever, but I do have a few questions.
I'm 21 years old and of the 4 cats we had during my years growing up, only 2 were kittens when we got them, and I was young, and my mom raised them. So I'm an experienced CAT owner, but not an experienced KITTEN owner and I've quickly learned that there are definitely differences!
So here are my questions....
1- We brought kitty home last night (we're not sure what to name him yet, we want to get to know him first... so i'll refer to him as kitty...haha) I held him for 45 minutes from the ride from my friend's to home and he seemed just fine. When we got home, I let my boyfriend hold him and get got a little squirmy and decided to hide. When he does come out... he doesn't seem to want to be touched... he gets a little fiesty and runs when you try to pick him up. If you do get your hands on him though, he's fine. Is this just him being scared and getting used to the new surroundings? I just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to make him a social and loving cat and not one who hides under the couch all the time and only comes out to eat and use the litter box!

2-Our first night together was rather rough. Before bed I made sure the litter box was set up and there was plenty of food and water out. I put kitty in a box next to the bed to sleep in and checked on him shortly after midnight... fast asleep. 4am was a different story.... 'mew'mew'mew'mew'mew'.... I got up with him and after turning on the light and moving 2 pieces of furniture I finally got ahold of him and brought him in the kitchen where his food is and he ate a little and took a few sips of water. As soon as he was done, he started to scratch and I knew what that meant... so I scooped him up, put him in the litter box (which isn't near his food) and scratched his paws in it and he tinkled.... from there I put him back in the box and the crying continued. So I pulled him up with me and *lick*lick*lick*lick*lick*.... My boyfriend was fed up with his antics... (he's not an experienced cat owner at all... so while I understood it was kitty's first night... he did not) So I took kitty out to the couch and got a few more hours of shut eye while kitty slept on my pillow.
My boyfriend has a test to take tomorrow for a certification for work and we're worried about kitty keeping us up all night. I tend to spoil my kitties and I read somewhere to put them in the bathroom with their food, litter box and toys and they'll be fine... but I just don't know if I could do that to him. Any suggestions for this?

3-Also... kitty licks... a LOT. While it was super cute at first... I'm sooooo over it. It hurts!!! He'll try to nibble and when he does that I say "NO" and he stops. But I think he may be trying to replace mom... I'm not sure, maybe I took him too early! But they'd been eating dry food at home and using the litter box and what not. I'm just a little concerned about the licking.

4-One last thing. He is going to be an indoor cat. I live in area with high traffic and I'm just too scared about letting him outside. But I noticed a few fleas on him. I managed to pick through his hair before he got too squirmy and only found one and I picked it off and killed it. Is he too young for flea medication? Should I get a collar? I'm not sure what to do. We'll be taking him to the vet in a few weeks (probably after the rush of the Christmas holiday) and maybe there's something they can do for him there, I just wanted to go ahead and do something for him if there's anything I can do in the mean time.

No worries also, I've been doing my best to tire kitty out today. We've had a few long play sessions... he's warming up to the jingling ball... he seems to like anything that lights up, makes noise... or is almost free... like an aluminum foil ball. He's so sweet and sorry for talking so long... I just wanted to get all my questions out there to see if anyone has some advice! Thanks so much!

-Merry-

Just wanted to drop in for a quick hello. I have two kittys and one doggy. I'm guilty of dressing up all three.

My Petacular Family:

Lucas Duncan- 14 year old german shepherd/husky/springer spaniel mix

Lex Panthor - 6 years old and hates clothing of every kind. I make him wear a shirt whenever I dose him with Advantage. For some reason he acts as if his back legs no longer work while in clothing.
Here is a video I made of him in a Christmas outfit. He's a Grinch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz_Xzb_leV8&feature=player_embedded

(Lucas discovered him and 4 other siblings along with his mother in a storm drain. We rescued them, had them all fixed and found loving homes for them all.)

Luna Turd - 1 year 3 months. Rescued from Richmond Animal League. Loves to wear dresses and will scream and scream until you give her D'bird. She loves that thing. Her middle name "Turd" was derived from the gaseous smells she would emit when we first adopted her. She had horrible breath, constantly birped and pooted and to top it all off she would sneeze and snot all over you. Now that she's healthy she no longer has any of those problems - but the middle name "Turd" just stuck. :)

I am the mom to two very different cats. I live in PA. I love them dearly and am proud of their success. Pete is my older male and kitty is my younger, runty female. I rescued Pete from freezing to death. He was almost frozen when I got him he could not even meow more than a faint squeak. He is my heart. I took him home and thawed him out. Tried to feed him baby formula since he had no teeth. Within a week he was hopping around like a healthy kitten. I took him to the vet and got him fixed and his shots and he was in perfect health. He is very ungreatful now. He doesn't seem to remember his past. Kitty, whos name was supposed to be Fern was also taken in out of the cold for the simple fact that Pete needed someone for when we were at work.

I've posted a few times and have decided to maybe write an introduction about myself and Booger..
Thats our picture .. can you guess who is who? LOL j/k .. I'm 31 years of age and I live in Wisconsin .. Booger is 9 weeks old black with a single white stripe on his belly, his cat mom is completely white and his cat dad is mostly white with some black patches so its kinda cool he came out the way he did.. We adopted him about 2 weeks ago he is healthy and active and a troublemaker hense the name Booger. He hasnt learned his name yet which I find quite odd, hes got some weird habits the one I love the most is that we tell him its bedtime and he crawls up with us and sleeps in between our pillows and will stay sleeping all night pretty much but by like 7 am hes up and frisky as ever!
I've had other cats besides him I had a manx who had kittens and they were born with spina bifida, the mother cat tried suffocating one as he was the one that was badly affected by the disease, his name was Scooter.. he had no use of his back legs and dragged himself around .. I took him to the vet after I had found her sitting on him when he was about 4 weeks old and my heart broke the vet said that he probably wouldnt make it much longer and let me take him home he had numerous vet visits and I bottle fed him and kept him away from her (by that time I was severely hating the mother cat) . I had talked to someone and they were going to make him a little set of wheels that strapped around his chest kinda like a wheel chair almost .. well he started getting listless and just laying around and at the next vet visit he said Scooter had gotten fluid in his lungs and was slowly drowning I demanded they do whatever could be done for him I cried I screamed but there was nothing they could do by that time they said they best option and the kindest thing to do was to let him go .. I kicked and I screamed it felt like my heart was being pulled out of me so much pain. It was my mom who finally got me to do it a couple of days later she went with me and the vet let me hold him.. he was purring such a happy baby he looked up at me and licked me and he was gone. He made it to 6 weeks old. That was ten years ago and I'm amazed at how much it still gets to me I vowed I would never let another animal get that tight in my heart again .. I couldnt look at the mother cat without feeling hatred because I feel deep in my heart that he would have had a better chance if she didnt try killing him so I ended up giving her away and have been kitten less up until 2 week ago when Booger came along.. I dont love Booger but I care about him deeply and maybe some day I can love him like he deserves. I think having Booger around will help me let go of Scooter mentally I also think once that happens I can love Booger.

Hello all --

New to this site. But I have been a cat owner for about 20 years now. I personally think felines are the best at warming the heart and soul. Cats have brought so much joy and peace to my heart. I have also experienced heart break with cats. Lucky developed FELV and passed away. After a four year fight Tinkerbell passed away from CRF. I was a veterinary technician for over a year and graduated from college with a degree in Zoology with minors in Animal Science, Animal Ecology and Behavior. If I find any questions or concerns in which I can be of assistance I will do my best to help out.

Well China is lying on my bed with her paw on my hand, which means she wants me to stop typing and start sleeping.

Hi everyone,

I'm so happy to see my little Simba's picture here and to find all of you. I lost my baby this past June (after 15 years of being my 'baby') and wish I could have stopped in to see all of your stories sooner.

I read about the kitty who opens his mouth to meow and nothing comes out and had to giggle. My little one used to do that too! It's nice to be able to smile when I think of him in between the tears that fall every night when I put the keys in door and there's no little sounds on the other side waiting or little purrs to greet me when I walk in. I miss him so much.

I wish I found this site sooner but I hope to pop in and read your stories to help keep Simba with me and his memory alive even though he's now at peace in a better place.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Today I can say I'm truly grateful for finding you and being able to pay Simba a little tribute by seeing his picture posted on this site.

I wish you all and your little cuties the best throughout the holiday season.

Hey all, my name is Disney (I'm not kidding...my mother actually landed me with this name. And she says she loves me *eyeroll.)

I'm getting my little Persian x Chinchilla tomorrow. I'm usually a very boring person except for my love of animals, so I'm not sure how much I'll have to dd. Here are some pictures from my breeder

Grr they won't load so I'll just post the pictures from the add :)

He is so far Nameless. I'm thinking Neuron, Nerd, Professor Frink (What can I say? I want to be a neurologist?)

He is absolutely perfect. I've waited for my perfect baby for a long time, and I've finally found him. (Surprising, because I always wanted a girl.)

Hello, Im new here. Im trying to find someone who maybe can help me find answers to a health problem in my moms kitten. She found a litter of 4 kittens, took care of them and got their shots, then eventually got rid of 3. She kept the 4th one because she didnt think he was well, because he stayed very small and had copper colored eyes, almost orange. Since then he has been fine, playing and eating everyday. He is now 8 months old and this morning he took a turn for the worst. He was unresponsive this morning so my parents rushed him to the vet. The vet listened to all his symptoms and looked through their books to come to the discission that he has a extra vein in his body that is causing toxic waste to stay in his liver. They say he will have to get surgery to remove the vein and even if he gets the surgery he may not make it. We have no clue what to do because we cant afford to pay for this surgery. We are wondering if anyone knows of a website where I can look up rare defects in kittens or if anyone can give us advice on what to do. We dont understand why it took 8 months for him to get deathly ill, this is why we want to look up more information about what the vet calls a Port vein. Please help us if you can. Any information is greatly appreciated

Hi, My name is Peg and I am new to the forum, although I have been coming to TDK for a long time. I have one cat now, Ashton, who is 14 and has the beginnings of kidney disease. Ashton lost his companion Callie, who was also 14, last summer and is now starting to act depressed and like he would like to have another companion. Thanks to TDK and Pam, tomorrow I am adopting Comet, who was featured last week with his sister, Luna. I can hardly wait to get him and I think he will be fun for Ashton to have around. I know there may be a few problems but I can put Comet into the bathroom when I need to be gone, if I need to keep them apart for a while. I hope everything goes well with this adoption. I still can't believe no one else wanted Comet - he is so cute!
