It drove me nuts because I felt like after telling a particular story for six books and making us all care about a particular group of characters, all of a sudden she decided to tell an entirely different story with different characters. Very frustrating.

On the flipside, I will always remember how I got the last book. Mr. K and I were flying to Amsterdam the night the book was released, to board a cruise ship. I had been madly trying to figure out how to get my hands on the book, with no luck. When we landed in Amsterdam, Mr. K left me alone briefly to visit the Gents, and when he came back he said "that store, over there, it's by the register and it says Harry Potter". It was the British edition, so it doesn't match with the rest of my set, but I didn't mind.

Much different than the others. I was mad about Hedwig, and wondered about Crookshanks! (I suppose she was at the Burrow) I thought it seemed to wrap things up pretty well, although it would have been nice to enhance the epilogue to include the parent's day at Hogwarts, so we could see some reunions and find out what happened to the teachers who were there when we saw them last. I would also have liked to have seen how Petunia, Vernon and Dudley were doing, whether they ever became the least bit thankful or at least understanding, although we know Dudley was.

Really? Remind me not to read She's Come Undone. The book was a tough read and I did have to make myself take breaks, especially when re-canting the events of April 20; although many miles away, I was working in a high school that day, which is almost as vivid to me as 9/11.
I decided to read the Harry Potter series. Started last fall and just finished the last one the other day. A fun series.
I also just finished reading Tuesdays with Morrie and am set to start For One More Day.

Rossy, The Whistling Season is really good; I'm thinking of re-reading it, and also recommended it to hubby. Interestingly, it takes place during the 1909-1910 school year and I read it just prior to the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year!

I enjoyed the book. I have read all of Mary Higgins Clark's books. I think you would like them all, Joan. I am going to give Carol's books a try. I read two other of their combined books just before I read this one. I just finished this one because the holidays got in my way. I like the characters.

Alvirah's intuition is what keeps the story moving. She is a sleuth because she has an understanding of human nature. She also has good friends. I think what I liked best about this story was the friendships. Everyone at Conklins, Tishie and Rhoda, Alvirah and Regan. The relationships of the people in this story make me feel like I know what life is like in Branscombe.

I also liked Flower. I have done things like travel far from home to surprise a boyfriend.(A looooong time ago!) I think a lot of us have some memory of what it felt like to be Flowers age. How she reacted when Duncan wasn't returning her calls and how emotional and impulsive she was about just going home and forgetting about Duncan even though it was killing her. I was very fond of her. I think the flower ring was a great idea and I bet there are women named Flower who have flower jewelry.

I liked how the authors put that element of interest in the story. Harvey probably got himself into his predicament by feeling sorry for himself and convincing himself he was entitled to have a girlfriend. I also liked how the authors portrayed the press as wanting to have a victim story and telling Harvey just what to say to create their story. I don't think anyone felt sorry for a grown man who had dumped a nice and hard-working wife for a fling. Now the fling was over and Harvey was having to eat his just desserts.

I have never been in an office/workplace group lottery ticket. There was a very nice co-worker who used to put them in a Christmas card for each of us at one place that I worked. If ever I had won a jackpot of any type I would have split it with her. I am not very money oriented either. A modest little home in the country where I could have a dog, lots of cats and a horse are all I would want for myself. The rest would go to animal and human charities. I once worked at a big department store and one of the carriage boys won a fairly big jackpot. About eighty thousand dollars I think it was. It was very exciting news, he was a very nice person, a lot like Duncan.
