You might not come across a stellar kisser too often. There are far more people who feel they excel at kissing than really do.Now we have a test to know whether you are a good kisser? Start the test.

Well, at least it will be the last I come up with but would love to hear what you might think...can you see yourself at Harry? In this time of computers and high-tech gadgets, she hand sort the mail and does things the old fashion way...is it even possible for someone like her exist?

Since there really isn't a "discussion guide" for the book I'll just pick a few things out and go with them. If you think of any additional please add them.

1. Could you picture any animal you have present or past stepping in like Mrs Murphy or Tee Tucker? Could you picture them having the conversations those two do...much less with the others they encounter?

Hi and Welcome to the October edition of the TDK bookclub. The book we were reading for this month was "Three Weeks With My Brother" by Nicholas Sparks (chosen by me, MC). I am not sure how many of you were able to read this novel but these questions will be here for you to come back to later. As winter approaches I know I read more and I suspect many of you do as well. I hope you enjoyed the book, I am always nervous when it is something I have picked. My first question to you all is:

1. What was your general opinion of the book? Are you glad you read it? Any lessons learned? Did you enjoy the author, Nicholas Sparks?

3. Jill, their mother, is largely canonized in the novel, and both brothers claim a profound love and respect for her, and further describe her as an ideal mother. Did she strike you as ideal? In what way? Has the memory of Jill been romanticized over the years by both Micah and Nicholas?

2. The authorship of Three Weeks with My Brother, at least as far as the cover is concerned, is split equally between Nicholas and Micah. Yet the book, for the most part, is written in first-person by Nicholas. Why? In your opinion, would it have been better to have split the authorial voice, and if so, why?

11. The structure of the novel is circular, in that it largely ends in the same place where it begins: with the brochure arriving in the mail. Did you realize this? Can you think of another book that has been written in this way? What is the symbolism of this ending?

Thanks so much for your input!! It is always a pleasure to get to 'talk' with each and every one of you. Hugs to my TDK family!

10. Memoirs provide glimpses into character, but only those glimpses that the authors are willing to reveal. It’s as if a window is opened, but only so far. After finishing the novel, do you feel as if you know Micah? Do you feel as if you know Nicholas?

4. At the same time, however, Jill seems to be almost neglectful as a parent, allowing the boys too much freedom at too young an age and forcing a maturity upon them that is far beyond their years. Is this inconsistency adequately explained? Would you allow this as a parent? In what ways did this freedom to roam as children -- complete with injuries, brushes with the law, and wrong choices -- seem to affect Micah now? How does it seem to affect Nicholas now?

Was wondering if anyone read the book I suggested "Three Weeks with My Brother" by Nicholas Sparks? I have the questions ready to go on the first and will be happy to post them if there are folks out there willing to participate. Its a great book, don't miss it! Thanks! MC

My boyfriend and I have been listening to the Harry Potter series on audio book and we're just about done with the second to last book!! I'm absoloutly in LOVE with "reading" like this late at night and it gives us something to talk about too! I just don't know what to read next!! I want a series...but I don't want to commit to something I'm not, or that he wont, like very much. We both read the Harry Potter series in HS and loved it so that was an easy chioce, and we've been watching the movies the day after we finish to compare. It's so much fun!!

tl;dr: I need help picking a new book and/or series to listen to at night before bed.

Just a reminder that the book for the Sept 1 discussion, Three Weeks With My Brother by Nicholas Sparks has been moved to Oct 1. This is to allow all who want to to read the book. It was a crazy August for all and most were unable to get to read it. Thanks, see you Oct 1! MC aka Miracle Kid

Hi! I was wondering if anyone had the time to read our selection for August!? I noticed as summer rolled around participation has dropped off due to other outdoor activities (me too!). I was wondering if anyone wanted to do a discussion on the first or if we want to bump the book to Sept. 1. Please let me know, I will need to re-read the book this weekend to refamiliarize myself with it. I read it when it first came out. Trust me, I have been a slacker myself this summer when it comes to reading. I do much better in the winter, I devour books! Please keep this bumped! Thank you!

4. How likely is the future that Brockmeier paints in the novel–melting polar icecaps, the mass extinction of animals, a plague deliberately spread by terrorists? What aspects of our current situation point to such a possibility?

5. During Lindell Trimble’s Employee of the Year award acceptance speech, he insists that Coca-Cola must not rest on its laurels but keep its momentum going. “A body is more likely to die at sunset than at any other hour of the day–that’s a fact,” he says. “The trick, then, is to keep the sun from setting. That’s what we’re looking for at Coca-Cola, and what we in the PR division have been fighting so hard to achieve: a sun that never sets. A perpetual noon” [p. 125]. What is wrong with this kind of thinking? What are the consequences of such a philosophy of unbounded hubris and the refusal to accept natural limitation?

8. Explore the connections between the novel’s main plotlines–Laura’s struggle to stay alive in the Antarctic and the existential predicament of the recently dead. In what ways, obvious and subtle, do these stories connect?

7. What does The Brief History of the Dead reveal about the subtle ways a single, ordinary human life is interconnected with thousands of others? Does Puckett’s claim that he can remember between fifty and seventy thousand people seem exaggerated or plausible?

6. The dead are surprised by their memories. “They might go weeks and months without thinking of the houses and neighborhoods they had grown up in, their triumphs of shame and glory, the jobs, routines, and hobbies that had slowly eaten away their lives, yet the smallest, most inconsequential episode would leap into their thoughts a hundred times a day, like a fish smacking its tail on the surface of a lake” [p. 11]. Does this seem an accurate description of how memory often works? Why would the dead forget the important things and remember the trivial ones?
