Over here in France, washing machines heat up the water so there can be a large buildup of lime scale on the heating elements as well as in the tub, especially if the water in your area is "hard". I've found that by eliminating clothes softener liquids for rinsing out my clothes and using plain white vinegar instead (about a cupful) keeps my washer clean. No more expensive tablets that a famous brand suggests you use to prevent lime scale, no more gooey mucky build up from clothes softeners and of course my clothes are nice and soft. There is no trace of vinegar smell in them either. On the contrary, the only smell is from the washing powder or liquid. And it's very very cheap. I always have ten quarts of it in my house. My washer has never been this clean.
White vinegar can be used all around the house especially in the bathroom. I keep it in a spray bottle and it's fantastic as well as being cheap for cleaning the taps and around the shower area.

WOW..... I have tears !! This is beautiful and in a way bitter sweet. I reminds me of the many furry friends I have loved and lost in my life. Its good to remember them and it also shows just how much of an impact a pet can have in your life. Thanks you for sharing this.

I like the tip about the store-bought frosting. I always end up pulling the top off the cake (13 x 9 type) and it turns into a big mess. So, if you whip it first, it probably thins it out enough to spread more easily, too. And heating the measuring cup with the hot water is GREAT!! I cook a lot with peanut butter. Thanks!

MCW thanks for the bump :)

Cheri, thank you for the contribution today; it really does help and is very kind of you.

CW I agree; it is so touching to me that through tdk and friends I was able to pay off a good 1/3rd of his vet bills. That took so many months and months of time off of paying back his bills and takes so much stress off of me. It means the world that so many people can come together and help out those in need. One day when I hold a "real" job after school and have a solid source of income I fully intend to pay it back to society and always help those in need whenever I can.

I would like to personally thank everyone for all their contributions whether it be big or small, and even if you can't afford it I want to thank you all for all of the emotional contributions and support you have all given me throughout the beginning and all of Taco (and Feeny's!) life.

It warms my heart to see that with the offerings of 41 TDKers and others, this goal was reached. Almost every contributor says something about how little they could send. It certainly is true that a lot of people doing a little bit each are able to accomplish great things.

You know tuttibella, it really is hard to tell on the little buggers. It brought up a conversation with my sister this weekend as well. When I was ten, shattered my leg and darn near made our cat go into labor when I did it. The day I came home from the hospital she had her kittens. They sat with me almost all summer and crawled down my full leg cast (one almost got stuck down there!) daily. Funny thing was my dad was a doctor and called the boys girls and the girls boys! I guess the "parts" just aren't that well defined when they are little!

Thanks for sharing all the gender confusion stories! Got me chuckling so much ..
I was so certain that Lucy Belle was a boy actually, since I was comparing her parts with pictures I found on the net. Darn! It is hard to tell without a vet's expert eyes.

Tuttibella, it's easy to mistake the gender of a kitten. I once had a litter of 5 kittens born to a stray... I was having a hard time telling the boys from the girls, though I was pretty doggone certain on the tortie (female).

When the entire litter went in for their TNR surgeries and shots, I found out why it was hard to tell them apart. Every single last kitten was a girl! Thank goodness that was a crew that all got spayed, along with their mama.

No one should ever be embarrassed about not knowing the sex of a tiny kitten - it's pretty well obscured. My vet has a lovely little office kitty. He's a neutered male whose name is Jennifer. When people ask why a boy cat is named Jennifer the chagrined story is that the vet's little daughter found Jennifer behind the shopping center, took him in to her father who took a quick look and said it was a girl. Of course, once a 6 year old has named her new very young kitten Jennifer after her favorite doll, there's no way you can talk her into renaming the kitten. When the doc took a closer look later he tried to convince his daughter that Jimmy would be more appropriate than Jenny. No luck, the cat is 9 years old and he's stilled named Jennifer.
