Half-asleep, I punched in the code to turn off the alarm, THEN checked to see what zone had tripped. (I had assumed the glass-break, the cats are always knocking things over and setting that off--in fact, did so last night.) The keypad read BASEMENT WINDOW. Just like in a horror movie, I stupidly opened the basement door, switched on the light and went down to see what happened. The window had been pushed open and the screen was cut. The full enormity of what had happened was realized when I put my hand through the window and felt the loose screen. The person must have run off when the alarm activated. The alarm company called and wanted to send the police, but I declined because my house was messy. I surprised the robber in the act. I took a 2x4 and beat the guy over the head repeatedly until he dropped my stereo and ran. I don't know what came over me. I was in shock for days afterwards and very afraid. I went out and got one of those tools that takes nails out of boards (claw handle) to keep with me by the bed. Take care! So sorry to hear of your break-in. There's nothing more fearing than to know someone has russled thru your private life like that. I had it happen to me once. The neighborhood had experienced a few of them. The cops told me they thought a couple of the punk-a** kids next door were involved with it. I never felt safe there again. The majority of the guns have been stored off premise the only ones remaining are for personal safety.The Sheriffs department has stepped up the patrols but being that we lives outside the city limits police protection is minimal.</p> <p>My hunt for a new place to live has been stepped up 3 fold so hopefully I will be moving soon.</p> <p>Thanks again, for your concern, my TDK family is a great comfort. I used to be in favor of gun control, but since moving to Georgia had to grudgingly admit that arming everyone does act as a deterrent. It is rare for there to be a convenience store holdup, common in NJ where I lived before. Here in Georgia a person holding up the store has to make sure the store is empty first, since odds are, any of the shoppers in the store may be armed and shoot them. The person behind the counter is probably armed as well. In Kennesaw, every household is required to own a weapon, though it is not enforced. I walked out my front door, and didn't see anyone, but looked over at my neighbor's house, and someone had kicked her front door in and heard her alarm going off...... I immediately called the police. When they got there, the discovered they had stolen the lady's computers, 2 TVs and her jewelery box..... they called it a "smash &#38; grab"...... The police told me these people were probably juvie deliq. and they know they have 3 minutes or less... one heads straight for the electronic/TV stuff, and the other for the jewelery...... I had a brick thrown through the sliding glass door during a storm. I was asleep upstairs and did not even hear it. They took my wallet. Four weeks later same thing! Same guy...they caught him. Zoned out on crack. He decided to come to Brazos county from Dallas to try his luck with robbery. It did not work too well. It is really hard to not feel violated and to sleep after something like this happens. Lucky the kits were not there! Hope they catch the b......s. I'm sending peaceful thought to you. </p>
