Tigerlilly, it seems that you have been doing a few heroic deeds yourself! Kudos to you. What a kind and generous thing you did in transporting mom and babies to CA and also taking on the heartbreaking task of searching shelters while on VACATION! You rock, girl.

TDK family, I've been out of town for a few days...but if I get this whole story: you are all amazing. I saw the Roxy video with her queen bed and her pink potty and I just cried...I have not read all of the posts , but will when I'm done unpacking and getting the many loads of laundry going, but I gather she is going to her furrever home this weekend. Awesome, well done! Any more help needed?

Yay for Roxie! Sounds as if everything is coming together nicely for her. I'm so happy she can go see Dr. Fox with her new Mama and Daddy for support instead of just any shelter person (not that they can't be great, but still...).
Also, by switching her shelter now, she'll just get more stressed out, I think. It's probably a better idea also not to introduce her to too many other animals in two shelters so she has less of a chance of picking up a cold, URI or something.
Saturday is not far away!!!

At our local humane society here in Tupelo, everyone must be spayed or neutered before being adopted. My man puppy Bleau was barely 5 weeks old and he was neutered. One thing that is done here, the surgery area is tatooed with green ink. That way if the cat/dog is surrendered to the shelter, the workers can determine right away if the animal has been fixed. All of our critters sport green tatoos, boys and girls! I am so glad that Roxy is going to a new home with Terri and John. She appeared to be so upset in her video, it broke my heart. She is in for a great new adventure with a great new family. Y'all are the best! I keep telling my posse' how great the TDK is and how generous everyone is.
Peace,

I just called the shelter. If she hasn't been spayed, she will have to be, but there won't be a problem with me getting her Saturday. The shelter will just need proof that it's been done.

Just so that you'll be aware: There's a law in Georgia that all animals adopted from shelters have to be spayed/neutered. If they're old enough for the surgery, it has to be done before they're adopted. If they're not old enough for it, the adopter has to sign a paper guaranteeing that the surgery will be performed. In those cases, a higher adoption fee is charged, part of which is refunded when the adopter brings to the shelter proof that the animal has been altered. Buttercup had not yet been spayed when I adopted her, and I could not take her home until the surgery had been performed. In fact, I had to wait two additional days to take her home because I wanted my own vet to do the procedure. (Penny had just recovered sufficiently from her spay to be placed for adoption; she still had her stitches.)

I just wouldn't want this to become a last-minute problem for this kitty. Shouldn't someone at the shelter be able to tell if she's been spayed by checking for a surgical scar?

OK, everyone, This is our thoughts....

Let's leave her where she is until Saturday (it's hard enough to go to the spa, much less without a mommmy or daddy to snuggle with afterwards) and we can have it done here by the wonderful Dr. Fox (let's hear a big whoo hoo for Dr. Fox, who was nominated for National Vet of the Year this year!!!) When she gets here, John and I can take her to visit with Dr. Fox, which would be the ideal thing to do, I think....

The Humane Society person told me that Roxy was turned in without her vet records. I cannot imagine that all of those belongings were purchased for her but she was not spayed. I'm wondering if it would be best to have Roxy picked up by bellantara on Saturday as we planned. I'm just worried about her having to spend extra days there at the pound with the dogs barking and everything.

I don't know if she is microchipped.

When I adopted Abby from the Humane Soc down here, they tested her and gave her the vaccines which was nice but they weren't sure about her needing to get spayed, they told me to bring her back should she go into heat.I did and then they spayed her.So they were flexible. Maybe if you explain the situation they can give you a certificate to get her spayed closer to home(by Terri's vet or the local Humane Soc) because getting spayed then flying would probably be way too stressful.

Does the shelter where she currently is have any info on her medical history? As GD says, she may already be up to date with her shots, and perhaps she has already been to the spa? Given all her belongings, it is possible that she was very well looked after - up to the point in time when her owners were forced to give her up.

On the other hand, would we be better off having both her safety and availablity ensured by having her transfer to the Humane Society? I guess it is up to Terri.

While getting Roxy spayed and making sure she gets her shots is nice, I know that if I were adopting her, I would take her to my vet anyway, just because.
Would it save money to have the humane society perform these things rather than the price Terri would pay at her vet's?
Also, might it not be required that she's up-to-date on her shots and all anyway before going on the plane?

If there's no money to save and it isn't required for her to fly, maybe Terri ought to take her to the vet she uses. I may be better for Roxy to recover from a trip to the spa with her new Mommy there to take care of her afterwards.

Hi all! I just arrived home to an offer from the local Humane Society near that shelter. (I had emailed them before we had someone to get Roxy.) She said that she could get Roxy out, and that for us to adopt Roxy from the Humane Society would be $100, but that includes her spay, testing and vaccines. She says it could all be done before April 3 when she flies out.

I hadn't thought about the fact that maybe Roxy should be tested before she meets up with Tiger and Bog? Or maybe Terri would want to bring Roxy to her own vet?
