Well, at least that's something, CM - GG never gives me any hints what he wants. He told me he doesn't want to have a birthday. He told me the same thing last year (Never mind the fact that I'm 5 months older than him and already celebrated that birthday). He always like the presents, whether he wants to have another birthday or not :)

One year I made really neat candle holders. I bought mugs and matching plates from the dollar store and bought creamic glue. You place the mug upside down so it serves as a base and glue the little plate (right side up) on top to serve as the candle platform. (curvy shaped mugs work best) Then I bought pillar type candles (also from the dollar store) to place on top of the plate and finished with either a ribbon bow at the base of the candle or little greenery or grapevine wreaths. So for about 4 dollars per gift I was able to make some really nice unique christmas gifts. These also work as cookie plates to leave cookies out for Santa for those with small children at home.

A college football coach told the coach of a professional football team that he had a football player that could play every position. Not believing him, the pro coach asked to meet the young man. The next day, the college coach brought the young man to the pro coach. The pro coach noticed that the young man was ten feet tall and looked rather goofy. He whispered to the college coach, "He's not too bright, is he?" The college coach whispered back, "He gets the job done." The pro coach, picking up a regulation-sized football, asked the player, "Hey kid, how well can you pass this?" The young man answered, "If I can swallow it, I can pass it."

A husband and wife were watching the evening news. The newsperson reported that six Brazilians were killed in a skydiving accident. The wife (a blonde) immediately got upset and started crying, say, "All those people killed. How sad!" The husband replied, "Well, it was a skydiving accident, and there are certain known risks involved." The wife was silent for a moment, still crying. Then she asked,"Just how many IS a Brazilian anyway?"

Green Garden Snake
A couple had a lot of potted plants, and during a recent cold
spell the wife was bringing a lot of them indoors to protect them from a possible freeze. It turned out that a little green garden snake was hidden in one of the plants and when it had warmed up, it slithered out and the wife saw it go under the sofa. She let out a very loud scream. The husband ,who was taking a shower ran into the living room naked to see what the problem was. She told him there was a snake under the sofa. He got down on his knees to look for it .About that time ,the family dog came up and cold nosed him on the rear. He thought the snake had bitten him and he fainted. His wife thought he had a heart attacked, so she called an ambulance. The attendance rushed in and loaded him on the stretcher and started carrying him out.About then the snake came out from under the sofa and one of the technicians saw it and dropped the
stretcher. That's when the man broke his leg and why he is still in the hospital.
The wife still had the snake in the house, so she called on a neighbor for help.He agreed to catch the snake and armed with a rolled up newspaper he began to poke under the sofa .Soon he decided it was gone and told her so and she sat on the sofa in relief. As she sat down ,her hand slid in between the cushions and she felt the snake wrigging. She screamed and fainted, the snake rushed back under the sofa. The neighbor man, seeing that she had passed out tried to use CPR to revive her. The neighbor's wife who had been shopping had just returned, saw her husband's mouth on the other woman and slammed her husband on the head with a bag of canned goods, knocking him out and cutting his scalp to the point that he needed stitches. An ambulance was again called and the noise woke the woman from her dead faint where she saw her neighbor on the floor with his wife bending over him. Assuming he had been bitten by the snake, she went to the kitchen and returned with some whiskey and began pouring it down the man's throat. The police arrived saw the unconscious man ,smelled the whiskey and assumed that a drunking fight had occurred .They were about to arrest them all when the two women tried to explain how it had all happened because of a little green snake. The ambulance arrived and took away the neighbor and his sobbing wife. Just then the little green snake crawled out from under the couch. One of the oficers drew his gun and fired at it but missed and hit the leg of a table beside of the couch. The table fell and the lamp that was on it shattered and as the bulb broke it started a fire in the drapes. The other officer tried to beat out the flames and fell through the window into the yard onto the family dog. This startled the dog causeing it to jump up and race out into the street where an oncoming car swerved to avoid it and hit the parked police car and set it on fire. Meanwhile the burning drapes had spread to the walls and the entire house was blazing. Neighbors had called the fire department and the arriving truck had started raising its
ladder as they were halfway down the street. The ladder tore out the overhead wires which disconnected all the electricity and telephones in a ten block area .
Time passed ,both men were discharged from the hospital ,and the house was rebuilt. The police acquired a new car and all was right with the world.
About a year latter, the original couple were watching TV and the weatherman announced a cold snap for that night . The husband asked his wife if she thought they should bring in their plants for the night.
SHE SHOT HIM !!!!

Its still too hot here (unseasonably) for comfort food and I'm missing it. I love beef stew, my Mom's potato and dumpling soup, chili, ginger bread, my mom's apple dumplings, all that good slow cooked or oven baked stuff but just can't do it when its so hot out. Scrambled eggs is probably my favorite after a long day and I'm too tired to cook comfort food. My sister makes a great chicken noodle soup makes the noodles herself. I love spaghetti, too. Right now I am enjoying it with tomatoes and basil from my garden. I add a little olive oil and cheese and I have a really tasty dish

FH...I really don't have a recipe, as in measurements. But I can tell you what ingredients I use.

Start off with anchovies packed in olive oil or anchovy paste. It makes a big difference in the final product and nobody will tell it is anchovies. They completely dissolve in the sauce. They add that "umami" that is a big buzz word these days. How many you use, depends upon how much sauce you are making...as do the rest of these ingredients:

olive oil, unless you use all the olive oil in the anchovy tin (it's a very small tin)...
then add chopped onions, chopped green bell pepper, sliced mushrooms, and celery and carrots that are very finely diced or minced. If you are using fresh tomatoes, add these now, but first blanch them to remove the skins (The skins turn out all hard and papery after being cooked so long). Add in a bay leaf or two..depending on how much sauce you are making. Add in a couple tablespoons of tomato paste...more if you are making a big pot of sauce. Add in whatever meat you are using. Some people like a mixture of beef and pork, but even when I ate pork, I preferred beef and no pork. I now usually use ground chicken and it turns out great. When things are browning and softening up, add chopped garlic. How much, is another preference. I season the meat first and then season the sauce. So there are two layers of seasoning. At this point, I put in dried basil, dried oregano, smoked paprika, dried parsley and garlic powder and onion powder (on top of the fresh garlic and onion). I also put in lots of fresh cracked pepper and I use Adobo salt.

If you are using canned tomatoes, add them in once everything is cooked down and softened. I really like Muir Glen organic products. Again, it's a preference. I like using tomato puree and diced tomatoes or whole peeled plum tomatoes and crush them by hand. Then add in some wine...I use chianti or cabernet. I raise the temp for a bit after the wine so there is not such a strong alcohol taste in the finished product. Then reduce the heat to a simmer again. Then add the second batch of the dried seasonings. I let it simmer for a few hours, stirring a few times an hour...and keep tasting it for adjustments. If you are going to use fresh herbs, such as basil, oregano or parsley, mince them up and add them toward the end of cooking.

And make sure your pasta water is as salty as the sea (sorry, WWM) or else it just won't taste as good and you will blame it on the sauce! Don't add oil to the water. If the sauce seems too thick when you are ready to serve, add some pasta water from the finished pasta. And I learned from Mario Batali to always put your pasta back into the pot, add the spaghetti sauce and cook it for a couple minutes to incorporate everything really well.

Plate it up and add some minced parsley and freshly grated parmesan or pecorino and some sprinklings of fresh cracked pepper.

I hate to brag...but I will...haha! Everyone says it is the best spaghetti sauce they have ever had. It is super good! As a matter of fact, I made a super quick sauce tonight with chicken...just simmered it for half an hour and it was still pretty good...

Dee, do you have a particular Bolognese recipe that's 'out of this world'? One of my goals in life is to perfect this sauce. I made some last month that was really good, but wasn't the 'umph' that I was looking for. Any ideas?

I like baked acorn squash. Sorry, Ghost, but I think squid jerky sounds gross! BTW, have you ever tried kangaroo jerky (poor little roos)!!!
