I wish I lived nearby to help you tend to the kitties after their day at the "spa." It sounds like they are already coming around. I'd be grumpy too if I'd been taken to the vet and spayed! lol You do incredible work with cats, Anncetera. My hat is off to you.

Great news! Zoot is now coming when called, Pretty Girl is not particularly territorial around new cats, and Jellybean is back to chasing her tail. Life is ever-so-slowly returning to a more normal state!

One time I had to give my late cat Spoooky medication; most of the time she was good about taking it but one night she put up a fuss but I got it into her. The funny part was my other cat Patches was furious I never saw such fury in a cats face and I was cursed out good in catenise one of those times I was glad I didn't understand every word the tone was enough.

Hi, anncetera2! It doesn't surprise me about the "all bent out of shape". My girls did exactly the same thing for a couple of days. They had surgery last Thursday and it took until yesterday for Willow to begin feeling more like herself. When that happened she quit growling and hissing at Windi and today they are fast friends again. Like your kittens they were inseparable before going to "the spa". Things are pretty much back to normal now so it does get better. Hang in there!

OP, change where you keep the ear drops. :-) And the best way I've found to warm them is to run a cup of hot water, and then just plunk the whole bottle in it, for 15-20 minutes. (That's long enough to grab a shower and let the kitten lick the water off the tops of your feet, another endearing trait of Zoot's.)

They're now at a point where, when they're very, very sleepy and dozing off, if they're not careful and are on my lap, they'll fall asleep touching (gasp!) another kitten. Sooner or later, one or the other of them wakes up, and gets 9 different kinds of bent-out-of-shape because of *touching* another kitten!

(This is all from kittens who were previously inseparable.)

Sigh. It's gonna be a long day, I think.

I can only imagine the scene you have described anncetera.. and it's comical at best. You are an amazing woman to do all of this for the 'girls'... I'm having a hard enough time just getting drops in one of Chloe's ears! It amazes me how cats can close off an ear that way LOL And, of course, she now knows the site of the ear drop bottle and gets all squirmy or runs as soon as she sees it..

KittenWhisperer, are you sure you don't want to take a handful from me? They are all discombobulated. From what I've observed, the majority of the behavior is based on how they smell; they all smell like medications, antiseptics, etc. now, not like themselves. Worse, all the others smell the same way, and NOBODY likes it!

I don't want to bathe anybody, not with incisions. (I'm reserving the idea of a quick session tonight with the sprayer in the sink, as a last resort.) And they haven't responded well to being rubbed all over with a washcloth that smells like Pretty Girl. Of course, Pretty Girl probably smells pretty "off" right now herself.

So I fed them all wet food this morning, in hopes that as they bathe and groom themselves, they'll all end up smelling faintly more of cat food, than of antiseptic. It's especially weird to watch Zoot groom herself. She growls when she gets to licking the incision, and I assume that's from discomfort. But she also has been growling when licking at the edges of her shaved areas, the ones that apparently got a little wet from topical antiseptic (the fur was sticking together a bit, but dried off). That area is far enough away that it shouldn't hurt, so I'm assuming it's the smell or taste or both that is making her grumpy.

I'm really glad I took today off, so I can help mitigate the situation.

What great news, anncetera2! I guess :-) You will be running a post-op recovery room for a couple of days. Willow hissed and growled at Windi for two days post-op. Sort of like she was saying "I TOLD you not to be naughty and just look at what's happened now!". But today has been a better day and Willow even brought a couple of toys and deposited them underneath the Christmas tree. So, break out the eggnog for at least two days and then all should be well! Good job! Lucky kitties.

Well, we're all back from the trip to the spa! LOL

Turns out everyone got spayed; yes, my assessment was incorrect and both Zoot and Rocky are girls! Every single last one of these guys is a gal, so I'm doubly happy; that's a whole lot of stray litters prevented.

Pretty Girl is growling and hissing at every single one of her kittens when they come closer than 3 feet. Miss Kitty and Jellybean are sleeping it off; Zoot and Roxy (formerly Rocky) are sleeping off & on, and still a bit wobbly. Oddly enough, the smallest kitten, Sweet Pea, appears to be fully recovered, alert, and functioning with minimal discomfort.

And Pretty Girl tested negative for FeLV and FIV; yay! She's the only one who got shots, though; the kittens, at 12 weeks, are too young.

Dealing with six "fur people" after a trip to the "spa?" Hmm, don't think I could handle that. I have enough trouble just taking two at a time for check ups. The best check up ever was when my hand was in a cast and my vet was kind enough to make a house call for all five of my kids! Made life a lot easer as I didn't have to chase them all down to get in the carriers. It always amazes me the places they can find to hide when the carriers come out. Best of luck for your kitties aftercare and recovery.

Hi, Great Dane - They are better, I guess. Windi acts like nothing at all has happened only she demands great loves. Willow, although she has been eating, acts a little bit scared. She hides under the bed but she has been walking around. And, she wanted her breakfast first thing this morning. I can't help but worry about her because she is so tiny.... just barely five pounds. And this is her third big surgery in her short life. Guilt - oh, my yes! I definitely have that in spades. But hopefully all is well. Willow is a bit hoarse but she was intubated so, if they are like us non-fur people, that is normal. Thank you for asking about them!
We are off to have dinner on trays so that we can be with our babies. I guess this is what happens when you don't have "two legged babies". We have had kitties always but for some reason I am so protective of these two. My most sincere thanks to all of you for your good wishes and advice. It was happen stance that I discoverd TDK - but what good fortune!
