thanks everyone for your experiences! Yeah EC, it was partly the heat. Supposedly the number beds do have one like the serta that takes away the heat. But I also thought the comfort foam just didn't let me sink in like I wanted to. Or rather I sunk in like a footprint in cement, and then switching to a new position got comical!

ange, I decided that would be one of the benefits of sleeping alone! both sides can be the same number!

My parents have one. My sd loves soft beds mom firm. I had the fortune or misfortune however you see it to spend a few night sover summer in it while they were gone a summer maybe two summer's ago. The firmer setting on my mom side was good my problem is I am a middle of the bed sleeper and well I ende dup split between butt sinking on SDs side and lowerback/upper back on mom's. So long as I staye don one side I was fine haha but that took way too much thought while I was sleeping. Also it's not that loud on there's but then they got a specific modela dn i know it was not the lower end nor the higest end either model wise. Now if it's for jsut you i assume if you set the sleeper thingies to the same setting the middle issue should not be a concern but then maybe that would be somehtign to ask the company.

My son bought one of the sleep number beds and he absolutely loves it, doesn't give his back fits at all like a regular mattress did. I tried it in the store and it was way too warm for me. Plus the *on sale* price only included the top piece and unless you had a European type of bed with the slats (you can get them from Copenhagen or Ikea) you would need the bottom platform bed to support the mattress. I do have a Copenhagen teakwood bed with slats but decided not to buy one right now. I like lower beds and I know others that really don't like the lower bed type, without the boxspring it is lower somewhat. So guess its all personal preference, the salesman said that the minimum I would walk out buying was realistically $1,000.

I read about someone that loved their memory foam at first but after a relatively short time the "memory" became permanent. As a heavier person this had her crawling out of a dip in the bed. I was considering one of those when I read that because that has got to be the most comfortable thing I every tried out.

PJ, my cousin has a sleep number and loves it. We researched them when we needed a new mattress and the little complaints people had (like the middle not being comfortable) scared us. Also, I was afraid with wires and tubing the cats could chew on something (under our bed is a favorite hiding spot.) Is it the heat from the memory foam that bothers you? If so, look into the Serta iComfort. It has a layer of gel over the foam to keep things cool. We loooove it! My mom had pointed us in that direction because she loved hers. We went to a store and tried them (and liked the least expensive model best...yay.) Buying a mattress is a big deal, isn't it....the idea of making a mistake is not fun. The Serta iComfort did come with an exchange garauntee as many do.

I had one years ago and loved it ! My ex got custody of it in the divorce long ago ;) The only issue he had with it was it was uncomfortable to sleep in the middle of it, since was dual controls and the middle was a sort of 'hard' divider. He would often pass-out, spread eagle, and found it uncomfortable when he woke up. I don't recall noise when changing the settings, but then this was over 10 years ago.

thanks trufflesmom. it's my back that's killing me on a traditional mattress and I don't like the memory foam ones at all. I can only tolerate a few hours in bed then have to get up and spend the rest of the night in the recliner.

I have a friend that has one and says it did wonders for her back and restless sleep problems. Also it was much more comfortable to her husband who was used to a waterbed before the marriage. I tried them at their store and while yes there are sleep number beds that cost the same has a traditional mattress, it is the low end sleep number compares to a high end traditional mattress. I did not like the low end sleep number when compared to a high end traditional. And my budget was more mid-range traditional mattress.

Hi PJ,

We don't own one but we slept on one in a hotel once. I honestly can't remember what it felt like but I sure remember the racket it made when we changed the settings. I guess if you could figure out a single setting & leave it there it wouldn't be an issue, but boy was it loud.

Hey, anyone out there have one of these? I'm thinking of getting one and was hoping for feedback. I've been reading reviews and for the most part they are positive, but I was hoping to talk to someone about the negatives if any. Living out in the boondocks like I do, it's 460 miles, one way, to test one out so it's not like I can run over to the neighborhood store!

What's even more wonderful about our little furry buddies is that they don't even know how much of a impact they have on us. They don't even have to try to be so amazing, they're just being themselves.
