Well the dog is a very sweet natured old boy. He's 10 so defo not a pup lol. The lady who has him also has 4 children and 2 cats so he is used to cats. Slow and patient it is then. I know, the dog de Bordeaux was very good, he just looked at Chester as if to say ' get outta my face kitty ' lol. Ok, we'll fingers crossed for them all 😉 . Thanks everyone 😃😃

Great link Jean... The only thing I was gone say is make sure to have high escape areas but Debt covered that...

Important delighted to hear you've spayed/neutered all your pets very responsible!! Oh and Dog de bordeaux are such babies... My sister has one lovely dogs but need a lot of training... Obviously its owner has trained him well if he didn't react to cat aggression as their pray drive is very strong

Patience and time, when it gets to the point that you can let them be in the same room at first always make sure that you or someone is there with them. Might want to have either cat trees or high places the cats can go to above the pup and maybe a children's gate so there is a room that they can go too (the cats) without the pup following. Just watch them and see how they react, do you have any kind of relaxation/calm meds like Rescue Remedy for Chester and/or the dog, calming stuff might help too.

It's very kind of you to offer the little dog a home. It would be a shame for it to end up in a shelter.

I've never tried to acclimate a dog and a cat. It's probably about the same as introducing a new cat to a resident cat, though, keep them separated and take the whole process slowly.

Does the current owner have an idea how the dog behaves around cats? If the dog just wants to chase the cat; there may be trouble.

Hi, I'm adopting a dog on Friday and I would like to see them all get along. I have 3 cats, Daisy, Chester and Charlie the one eyed kitten lol. Daisy and Charlie don't mind dogs (I've dog sat for a friend before) but Chester just terrorised the poor thing! How can I make it less stressful for them all? I've had all of them neutered. Oh yes, Chester is one hell of a brave boy too, he stood face to face with a huge dog de Bordeaux a few weeks back and wouldn't back down or run away!! Lucky for him the dog was very placid and on a lead. I had to move him myself lol. I have a spray bottle on hand and a separate room for the dog if it gets too much for them all. Normally I wouldn't have got a dog but it is a 10 year old small dog that the owner can no longer keep. I didn't want to see him go to a shelter :(

They also make kitty pacifiers, although they are a little harder to find then human pacifiers. If you end up with a human one, get a piece of fuzzy material and poke the pacifier through it so your baby will have something soft to cuddle up to.

I think it's probably "normal" in a sense. I know puppies will sometimes latch onto their littermates genitalia for suckling. And can cause sores that way. Is it possible to redirect, maybe with a human baby's pacifier?

So my love and I noticed something odd on my dog belly/genitalia the othe day. A sore. We think that our baby Rhyuss is causing it. I have seen him recently trying to nurse from my male dog. Any time he gets the chance to curl up and suckle from Rosco (the dog) he does. Rosco doesn't act like it bothers him, but the sore Rhyuss creates bothers me. Is this normal? Suggestions? Rhyuss is about 2 1/2 months old

So we just added a dog to our family, after our puppy Lucy became aggressive with the cats we had to find her a new home. She went to a farm (: We decided our next dog would be a senior Keeshond (:
Well we just got Koko, a 7 year old Keeshond-Pomeranian mix. He doesn't mind the cats, but they seem to enjoy stalking him. Especially baby Otter, who will hiss, growl, swipe, and spit at Koko whenever he gets too close XD
Cloud won't take his eyes off Koko. And Otter will take the highest ground and glare at Koko haha!

LADYSKY61

Hopefully my dog will calm down after meeting the kitten. ^^;

I want to adopt one, but my mom doesn't like fur everywhere. So we have to get a specific breed of a cat *such as a Devon* When I'm older I'll be sure to rescue a kitten ^^

I heard Bengals are kinda wild XD but I want a more laid back yet playful cat. *Could be a lap cat, but could also play for hours on end* So I'll wait until I have more experience before getting Bengal. I'll look into a Devon or something of that kind. They seem sweet.

Also thanks about the basement. I was really worried about that, but now my mind is at ease. XD I'll be with it like ALL the time ^^ I've always wanted a kitten so I'll be spoiling him or her ^^

Thank you so much for helping me! I'm going to decorate the basement and make sure it's warm.

Oh yeah...

I want to get one sooner but we're not exactly in the situation to get one ;__; but hopefully around Christmas we'll have one :)

THX!!!

In my experience kittens adapt quickly to dogs. Sometimes dogs even become surrgote mothers to kittens. You should do a slow introduction but after that, you should be ok. My foster kitten went right up to our new dog and wanted to cuddle right away. As if to say "who are you? Will you play with me?" Now it depends on the age of the kitten and temperment, but the kitten will probably be a little scared anyway, of the new situation, but no the dog. Also, often kittens are raised with dogs, when they are in foster homes or in the homes of breeders.

Also, FYI, right now in North America it is kitten season and many shelters are filled TO THE GILLS with kittens. I personally would stir you towards a "DSH" or DLH" kitten, which stands for Domestic Short Hair or Domestic Long Hair, aka muggle kitten. So anyway, if you can convince your parents to get a kitten sooner, ("lets just take a look at the shelter kittens....) That would be could. Bengals are pretty crazy because they are part wild cat and not recommended for first timers. (marking, destruction, clawing up, etc is common) Devon rexes are sweet. My friend has one because she is allergic to must cat breeds. Keep in mind both of those options are pretty expensive, with a properly breed Devon rex or Bengal fetching up to $500 or more.

As far as your question, I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with putting the kitten in the basement as long as it's safe, comfortable (not too cold), and not isolating. You will probably find that the kitten wants to be with you 24/7 and wants to play with the dog (especially if it's small-medium) and therefor will meow it's little head off in the basement, but you could certainly try.

Hey guys :) Okay so... After many years of asking for a kitten, "No way" turned into "Probably", and then it turned into "Someday", and now Someday turned into "YES!" So in about a few months to a year, I'm going to get a kitten! I'm really excited, but I have a few questions. We have a dog who's 7 *though acts like he's still a puppy. He's really hyper and stuff lol* and he LOVES cats. He loves cute tiny animals and cries whenever he sees them. We were REALLY worried about this until we saw him around cats. He just likes to smell them *NEVER grabs them* so this made us a bit more relaxed. But those were cats that already knew how to handle a gentle giant. A kitten may be too overwhelmed with him wanting to sniff it 24/7. So to do this *Until the cat gets older* we have a basement. No not a cold basement that no one ever goes in. This basement has heat, and carpet as well as a bed room, and bathroom. We spend TONS of time in the basement, so I was wondering... Would it be cruel to have the Kitten down there while we're down there? Or let it stay down there until my dog gets used to him? It would hardly ever be by itself. And at night when I go to bed, it would of course sleep with me, or if I'm in my room. I just want to be sure that my kitten is safe. It would NEVER spend it's whole life down there. Just until it gets used to us, our dog, and knows how to escape the dog from loving it too much XD so is this okay? We are home schooled so it would never be home alone, and we do our school down in the basement. I want to make sure this kitten won't feel stressed or trapped. I read other places that people had their cat live in one room, or just the basement and they were fine. But please note. This would only be temporary. Not forever.

*by the way. We might get a Devon rex, or a bengal* :DDDDDDD

THANKS

Thanks!

They did. They used to be nanny dogs. Parents would let the dogs watch the kid. Same with Akitas in japan. It's not fair to them. The breed is not aggressive but certain lineages are very aggressive cause of the humans that handled them. Kimmie will not have gone in vain if we educate whoever we can on the importance of spaying and neutering, humane treatment, and animal rights.

Hehe, no trouble, honest!

I feel so bad for Kimmie. Interestingly, I was attacked by a dog several years ago. The dog ran straight into me, puncturing 1 thigh and gashing the other. I had a crazy fear of big dogs for a long time. (Someone once said, "little dogs bite too, you know". Yeah, well a little dog didn't bit me.) What's interesting is that I have really taken a liking to pit bulls. Not that I would get one as I've never been a dog person, but there's just something about them. They sure did get a bad rap.

{{{Kimmie}}} Being misunderstood is so sad. May she run and play without human interferrence at the Rainbow Bridge. There is a human out there who cared about her and will greet her someday and they will cross the Bridge together. May she never be forgotten.

Chaos, if you can, would you please email me at lv655b at yahoo dot com? I have a question for you. Thanks.
