Welcome Pluto and Luna - since every kitten is different it's hard to say quite what to expect. They will take a bit of time to adjust, but good for you for getting siblings, that will help.
Good luck - looking forward to updates!

HI!
Are you adopting them from a shelter? A friend? Are they in a foster home? Is their mom with them or are they being raised as an orphan litter? If possible, I would recommend that they stay with their mom until about 8 or 9 weeks of age, because 6 weeks is pretty young. A few more weeks with it's mom will likely teach them to be better behaved house cats. Unless of course, the mom is feral (wild), in which cause 6 weeks is fine.

Assuming they are with their mom is a foster home and received lots of human playtime, then I would expect that they will be a little scared at first, maybe will hide somewhere small and safe. Have a safe room for them set up. and avoid giving them access to a large and potentially dangerous area. Make sure to kitten proof and have 2 or 3 litter boxes set up, and show them where they are. Put their food and water bowls in the safe room but not near the litter boxes. Try to feed them the same food, initially as they were eating and make any changes in food slowly. Usually the foster parents will give you a small amount of the food to serve them. Do play time with them at least a few times a day, 2-3 times for about 20-30 minutes each time, get da bird, feather wands, throwables, and cat dancers. They will be VERY playful. Fortunately they can play with each other. It will probably look like fighting, but it's really playing.

Make sure to handle each of them together and preferable without the other, so they will each bond with you. Bring friends in the first few weeks, to handle them as well. They may warm to you really quickly, be sleeping by your head the first night, or they may hide for a few days, it depends on what their temperament style is. Wear long pants. THey will want to climb on you, once they see you as the food producer/new mother figure. Speaking of food, you may want to get some KMR for them to drink.

VERY IMPORTANT: Take the kittens to the vet the first week, for a health check-up and their first shots. Bring a stool sample, to make sure the dewormers killed all the worms. If you can, look at the health of the momma cat. It is very common for kittens at this age to get "kitty colds" and may need antibiotics. This can lead to serious complications, like blindness or death, if not treated. If you see watery eyes, heavy breathing (not playing) or excessive sneezing, it's likely a kitty cold. If they haven't been treated for fleas, you may need to use a flea comb and some DAWN to get rid of the fleas. They should not get Frontline or similar until they are 2lbs.

WELCOME TO CAT PARENTHOOD!

*I am a foster parent who raised dozens kittens and I've raised 2 cats of my own from about 6 weeks of age.

**ALSO! I re-read your post. You will want to get them spayed between 3-4 months of age. Kittens care capable of getting pregnant starting at around 5 months old, sometimes a little sooner. THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM MATING WITH THEIR SIBLINGS!!!! So you will want to get them fixed right away. Most vets or clinics will do it at 2lbs or 2 months old. If you are getting them from a shelter, ask if they will pay for the kittens spay/neuter surgery.

Hi all! I'm new to the cat world, never owned one before and I am about to adopt two kittens. A black/white boy and a calico girl, siblings from the same litter. I am naming the boy Pluto and the girl Luna. Since I have no idea what I am doing and am completely excited to be a mommy, I could use some help, tips, advice, anything! I've done lots of research, I've picked the cat food I'm going to buy, I just want to know what it's going to be like the first few weeks, months, etc... I'm getting them in two weeks, they will be 6 weeks old. They will have had all their dewormings, but I want to know when and what shots they need as well. They will be indoor cats. I've heard a kitten cries for its mommy the first nights, is that the same if you get two kittens too? Anyone else adopted two sibling kittens? What was it like?! Thank you!

That would be a little extreme, and frankly, she knows i can't afford it atm.
Thanks for the idea though.
That said, she started coming to see him a lot more, and him being an amusing little fella is having a positive effect.

In other news, he is now walking a LOT less wobbly, and faster. Started venturing around the room for a bit, and then returning to "home base" every 2 minutes.

http://i.imgur.com/h530rUo.jpg

That aside-
1- after each feeding, his voice starts sounding like it's hoarse, and it's like that most of the time. When he wakes up before every feeding he sounds good, but right after eating- it changes.
Any ideas what can it be? i make sure the food is in JUST the right temperature.

2- when is he supposed to start seeing well enough to recognize movement, even if blurry? right now (3 weeks old) he doesn't really respond to visual stimulation, i'm a bit worried.

Will keep updating!

Maybe you could start looking for a room to rent or an apartment to share. When your mother realizes that you don't want to part with your 'baby' anymore than she wants to part with hers, she might try to learn to appreciate the little guy.

Confused in its new box/house, which is MUCH larger than the old one to allow some exercise to build up legs

After putting in the warm bottle under a layring of fleece, i'll let this one speak for itself:
http://i.imgur.com/hg6NLjJ.jpg

New box instructions, for whoever wants to make one as well, i think it turned to be awesome and it took him exactly 1 minute to start liking it, exploring around and digging in the bedding:

One cardboard box, size according to your kitten
Two bottom leayers- heavy duty bubblwrap, the large bubble kind, for insulation if your box is on the floor. It works EXTREMELY well, you can put the box on ice and the cold wouldn't get inside.

third layer- thick nylon sheet to even out the surface

3 top layers- fleece, fuzzy side up. The walls are also covered in a single layer of fleece.

The result: one very comfy box, properly insulated, keeps warmth inside, and as a huge bonus, GREAT acoustic insulation. All hell can break loose inside and you'll hear almost nothing. Good if your kitten meows for attention a bit too much.

Try putting his box under the covers of your bed (assuming your bed is large enough so that you don't accidentally kick him out). Option 2 is to put an actual electric heating pad in his box. In order for that to work his box needs to be large enough so that he can crawl to the cooler side if he needs to.

So far as your mum goes, try renaming the little one after her, or after a male she is really attached to (hubby, brother, father). Also let her feed him as often as possible. Anything you can do to give her warm fuzzy feelings about the kitten will help.

Another update-
The wobble stage started, it's endlessly comical.
He's lightning-fast when wobbling in a straight line, but turns prove to be somewhat problematic.
Eyes are completely open, and HUGE.
There is no way i'll be able to give him away, must think of a solution for my mother- she's treating him as he's made of nuclear waste. "i don't want him going all around the house" etc.
It's really hard to explain to some people that a cat that never stepped outside is as clean as any human being, perhaps even more.

Been at the vet yesterday just for a checkup, everything seems to be going great.

*I do have one problem though, the temperature in his box is a bit low, any ideas on how to keep it up for long enough?
I usually wrap a hot water bottle in some cloth and place it aside to the box to heat it up, but it only works for 2-3 hours at a time.
As i (and he) sleep through the night, i need a 6-8 hour solution. Don't have an electric blanket, didn't find one as well.

Any advice would be good, it's extremely easier to take care of him when he's warm rather than cold, he's meowing less, squirming less, and eating better (important to mention- i never feed him when cold! warming him up first)

Pictures to follow tomorrow, i'm dating his growth pretty regularly, he's finally starting to look more like a kitten than a mouse.

glad to hear its going good. as far as the supersquirm, our girl started that very shortly before she started going potty by herself. what I did at this point is to get a box that they can easily get in to, put some litter in it and place it close (about 2-3 feet away) to whare they spend the most time. each time, before I pottied them I placed them in the litterbox. they will most likely play in it, but that is how we taught her what the litterbox is for. their mom would place them in the box to teach them whare to potty. soon when you notice that they have gone pee and poop on their own, you won't have to potty them any more. YEA!!! also, as soon as they start learning how to walk, if you haven't started yet, you can put some of their milk on a plate, (we peferred a cookie sheet in the bath tub for the first few days to start since it may be messy), and they can start drinking their meals off a plate, then a bowl. that will make your job even easier. not trying to tell you what to do, just giving you some ideas to make things easier. gotta love kittens this age, but I wasn't so lucky, my girl didn't sleep through the night until she was 4 wks.

Update #1!
From the last set of pictures things moved up a bit.
Eyes are now pretty much open, i noticed what seems to be sort of self-grooming starting, he sometimes licks near his paws.

Also, Rody developed some interesting abilities:
1- Supersquirm. Whenever i try to get him to do his business, the moment a drop of water touches his underside, all hell breaks loose. This one does NOT like water.
2- The "nokia 3310", the little guy purrs. and i mean PURRS. it's like having your phone on constant vibrate.
3- Being a furball while in my hand.
4- Being a furball while not in my hand.
5- Being and exquisite furball anywhere, anytime.

Literally, when petted after feeding he sometimes rolls up into a splendid ball.
From what i gather this is a good sign, as they usually do this only when they're content/happy.
I have a new set of pictures, will upload it soon.

But not all is pink- i'm constantly being reminded by my mother (university is close to home, so i still live with the folks) that "there is no way we're keeping a cat in the house", she wants me to give him away as soon as he's able to walk.
Trying to find ideas how to convince her, any advice or info why it's good to have a cat around the house can help.
It's impossible to give away something that curled up into a ball in your hand just an hour ago.

Absolutely cute beyond words. The hand reared kittens who have the best chance of survival are the ones who gain weight, see the vet and don't have any overtly worrisome issues. I would say that you are batting 100 right now. Keep loving him and keep his vet in the circle - he has a better chance than most to make it.

You are just awesome, and Rhody is absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't worry about him being a wee podge, that is likely to be the very least of his problems. Wee motherless kittens are very fragile but if you can get him to six weeks, he will be a lot sturdier, eight weeks is another big milestone and at 12 weeks, he should be strong enough to face most things (that's when shelters feel it's safe to let kittens go to new homes). I think you're wise to just take it one day at a time for now. Bless you and your new baby.

Pika you are doing AWESOME! Thank you for rescuing this baby. Yes, this is a delicate age to be cat motherless, but you are doing a great job. *If* he doesn't make it, know it isn't for something you did or didn't do. You are giving this little life a chance he never would have had, and would have suffered the same fate as his littermate. He is safe and warm and loved and you can't ask for better than that. Do keep us updated on how he is doing and we will love to see more pics when you have them. Enjoy your break time, too!

I started with feeding every 2-3 hours, vet said both i and he will be better off with 4 feedings a day as long as he eats the proper amount, been doing that for 4 days now, works perfect.
The sleeping better at nights is not about noise- by some miracle, he sleeps through the night for the most part, so i get my sleep as well, everybody's happy.
I meant i'm still pretty worried about something happening to him.
Luckily, in the next 10 days i'm on a break from university, so i'll be able to track everything with full attention during this critical week.

I personally feel that abandoned kittens are not out of danger until they start to potty by themselves. until then, every bit of growth they go through is very stressfull on their body which is one reason they sleep so much. mom isn't with them for a reason. rather it be she got killed, forgot whare the babies were, no milk, or the kittens have something wrong with them. one of our cats were found in the same type of situation. we got her when she was just 2 1/2 wks old. come to find out that when she was old enough to be able to potty on her own, she could pee but not poop. she was on 2 meds until she was 6 months old, when she was finally able to poop on her own. her colen wasn't spazaming how it was supposed to. now she is a healthy 2yr old. you will also have to watch for diahrea which can kill within days in a kitten this young. deworming gets done with first set of shots between 6-8 wks. as far as sleeping better at nights, be prepared to feed every 2-3 hrs at night. don't worrie about him being fat. some of that is healthy kitten fat and some of it is probably due to worms which most kittens have. it may be another wk or so before he can potty without you doing it for him.

He's just nearing 2 weeks right now, eyes started opening.
...No litterbox yet either, he still can't walk (but holy cow, can he crawl and climb. sometimes i have a hard time keeping up.)

Thanks for your help via youtube, btw!

Welcome Pika - Rody is adorable! Thank you for being his angel. I am glad you took him to the vet, who can help guide you as well. I don't know a lot about the wee ones, but I would think if he is taking the KMR and produces something in the litterbox, you're off to a great start! You might want the vet to check for worms, very common in kittens.
Looking forward to more pictures!

Hi folks
for the past week or so iv'e been reading here for TONS of advice that helped me save one little fluffy life, thought it'd be fitting to also tell you about it.

Around 10 days ago i started hearing endless mewoing below my window. Figured some cat had a litter around.
After not managing to sleep too well due to the noise, i searched to see what the fuss was about. found the source of the noise, a pile of building materials in a small trench between my garden and my neighbor's, but saw nothing.
Went out again next morning- to discover one very small, dark, and lifeless kitten. This was so sad, the night before he was alive, but i didn't see him due to his color.
After digging up in the pile, another faint voice was heard. i dug up for half an hour 'til i managed to track it, it was below EVERYTHING. long story short, i dug a hole in the ground and managed to get the tiny guy out.
3-5 day old, seemed like the umbilical cord just fell out. He was weak, dirty, thin, almost didn't meow anymore.
Ran to the nearby store to buy proper food (KMR), made a padded warmed box, and started treating him.

One week later, well, see for yourself:

http://i.imgur.com/XcqeTVu.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/4MNaMkT.jpg

I'm completely astounded by how much he grew, and how strong he is now. I visited the vet, everything is, quote, "amazingly well".

Since the little guy is a cat in a box, i decided (for now) to call him Schrodinger, or Rody for short.

I know kittens in situations like these have extremely low chance of surviving, but if anybody knows- am i sort-of-out of the danger zone? i'd like to be able to sleep a bit better at nights...
Also, i think he's a little, uh, fat. around 2 weeks old now and he weighs 7oz, i saw the normal weight should be 4-6~

Any advice will be much appreciated. Will post more pictures as he grows.

Hi,
She will take a few weeks to adjust. Plus as they enter adolescents cats usually become less cuddly and want to be held less. So that's pretty normal.

Please make sure that both kittens are spayed and neutered. The female would be coming in to heat soon if she isn't spayed. If you don't get the fixed, you will have kittens on your hands in a few short months.

hi guys, I just got a female kitten about 2 months ago so right now shes about 5 months old. (she is a wonderful kitten). I thought she could use a friend. So I got her a male friend that is about 4 months old. (he is also wonderful) Before I got my female kitten her friend she would follow me everywhere, purr all the time, always come to me, and so on. Now she doesn't do that as much. When I pick her up sometimes shell meow or when I'm petting her. It seems like shes mad at me. Is that true?
She will also hiss at the new kitten. Is that normal? When I introduced them I put the new kitten down and let him explore the house, while my female kitten was also walking around the house. Did I do something wrong? Will my kittens ever become friends?
I also have two litter boxes and two food and water dishes. Is that good to do?
Please help!!! Thanks!!! :)

We got her vaccinated shortly after my previous post. She was a little shy and anti-social for the rest of the day; running away into dark corners. On the next day, she just wanted to lay around and not do anything. Today, she's been very active and playful, and back to her usual self.

Much love,
