Hi Jcat... Glad to get a response at this hour, when most TDkers are not available... :) hail NZers.. :D

Joget seems fine. He peed quite a lot on his own just now. Ate well and demanded more food, so Im not worrying too much at the moment.

The only thing that keeps nagging on my mind is that when he had his first surgery (about a month and a week ago, to widen his "original" urethra), he was really great after his catheter came off. Peed well, ate and pooped well. But after about 3 weeks, he started to block again. Then the vet decided to have a Perineal Urethrostomy on him, made a new urethra that resembles that of a girl.

I just hope there will be no further complications...

I guess I'm too much of an old-lady... I don't like texting at all! I love my cell phone but only want it ring and dial out. Yes, VM is a pain, I can't deny that. I'd rather email than anything (except talking to my friends, of course). I just don't like dealing with customer service of any company. I, for one, can't stand those freaking (sorry for unfluffy) menu's. When I do call someplace I WANT a human. Otherwise I deal with websites. Rant over, going back to bed!

Hi, Rocky,

Deb is absolutely right, any kitten would be scared right now, new people, new surroundings, new smells. Try to think how you would feel if you were suddenly whisked away from all your family and friends, house and away from everything you knew to somewhere entirely different with new people, and you were only the size of a small kitten. You would probably feel like hiding for a bit too.

It may be that kitty will calm down in the box and soon be absolutely fine. Cats are very curious so as long as you always speak gently to him or her, never handle him roughly but always gently and always speak and move slowly around him/her (sudden movements and loud noises are frightening), s/he will probably come out soon to find out what is going on and learn to fit into your home in no time.

However, if after some hours in the box, s/he still seems very frightened and upset, then your kitten may not have been socialised to get along with people properly in its former home and may need some extra TLC and coaxing. If that's the case, you will need to be patient but there is some wonderful advice for you on this previous thread:

http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/topic/14236

which is also about a scared little kitten who needs to learn how to be good with people.

And again, Deb is right, a vet check to get his shots and check his general health is a very good thing, especially as you will probably have plenty of questions to ask about your new baby! Good luck and keep in touch, we will always try to help if we can :)

Dionne, I wish I could help you but this is way beyond my experience. Was the vet expecting you to take the catheter out yourself? And how does Joget seem now? Try to keep him calm, warm and comfy and try not to worry too much unless he gives you cause.

Welcome Rocky and new kitten to the TDK website, if you click on the pink tags in the upper right hand corner of this thread you will find some helpful info threads from others before you with new baby kittens. I haven't had one in awhile but others here have and would more info than I. Because of the late hour, there isn't a big crowd on the site right now but some should be coming along in the next few hours.

Your kitten is scared as any baby would be, he has been taken from his mother, his littermates/siblings and is now in a strange place with strangers. So yes it will take time for him to settle down, he didn't mean to scratch your mother. Please do make sure that you take him to the vet for a check-up and his initial shots unless the first lady who has the mother did this already.

My cat Joget, has just got his second surgery to cure his FLUTD problem. Today is his 10th day after surgery (perineal urethrostomy).
This morning I found his catheter dangling from his new "hole", apparently he has been trying to nudge it, despite the elizabethan collar his wearing.

I called my vet, and he asked it should be OK to let the catheter come off after 10 days.

But Joe is a very naughty boy who cant sit still, even when he is caged.
Not knowing any better, I pulled the catheter out. Joe wailed when I pulled it out, but it was over in 2 seconds.

What worried me is that I might cause some damage when pulling out the catheter.
I've tried googling on this matter, but found none that could explain the questions I have in mind.

How long does it usually take for the new urethra to heal?
And could I have done some damage when pulling the catheter out?

Pls anyone who can help me, I will really appreciate any comments...

Thank you very much

PS: I called my vet, but he is busy right now, and only told me to consult an emergency vet if I am really really worried. I am, but I really cant afford an emergency vet right now...

I'm not sure how Dale, the boy cat, was spayed, but I have heard of cats (and dogs) who can predict seizures.

Since both cats gave 3 hours notice, their human must be giving off some sort of scent or electrical change before her seizures. If medical science could isolate whatever it is, there would be so many seizure-prone people who currently have limited lifestyles who could benefit.

Yeah, JCAT, I guess I mean big feet. Of course, I'm the person who sat on the kerb a few hours ago telling an 11 month old St. Bernard what a cute little puppy he was (he probably weighed 40 pounds). If that puppy was little, those polydactyl feet qualify as tiny.

Both Cheetah Boy and Fila play fetch. Cheetah brings the toy (or milk bottle cap) almost back to you then cries until you get out of your comfortable chair and toss it again. Fila brings it close enough that you can actually stretch and reach it without getting up.

The real champ at fetching is Baby Harley (Cousin Spike's little brother). He brings whatever it is right to your lap. Of course, when you try to pick it up he starts batting at your hand, but at least you don't have to get out of the comfy chair.

Welcome to TDK Bala. I hope that you look into caring for a kitten before you decided to get one. Can I ask why you will not allow your cat indoors? Do you have a safe outside environment for a kitten? Those are a few things to think about. Since you have a cat maybe you could also ask you vet for advice. It is always exciting to add a furry friend to your family, just make sure to prepare in advance for the care that your new friend will need to live a long and healthy life with you!

I have "Changeling" here that I got from Netflix. I think Angelina Jolie is in it and it is about a boy who went missing and they try to give her another child and tell her it is her boy.

... slides pizzas and martini to MC.... date night was good!.... our friends are embarking on a cruise down to St. Thomas, St. Croix, Dominica, etc. tomorrow for a week, so we had an early dinner out to see them off....

...what movie are you and the girls watching MC?.... I'm tucked up in bed, reading my "legend of the Seeker" book series!... I love the TV show, so of course, I had to go get the books!

It was 73 and sunny today here in the land of cotton. I went out and weeded the heck out of one garden bed (and rejoiced to see that lilies I thought hadn't made it are poking their heads out of the ground...).

Sigh. Sun, flowers, the smell of newly mown grass-- where's the down side? Well, spring also means I won't see two of my sweetest, most beautiful cats again for the next 9 months, except in passing. Both will only come in at night to sleep from Dec.-Feb. when the nights are below 40 degrees. Seriously, they are as regular as the seasons themselves. Both of them will then sleep in my bed and one, Abby, is just amazing. She curls up by my head and doesn't move a muscle until well after I have breakfast started. The other is also pretty quiet but he wants out at 3:20 a.m. and can rarely be persuaded that it is too cold.

So while I am glad to see nice weather again, I am sad!
