That's true. Jasper doesn't enjoy his insulin injections (unless he's eating, when he doesn't notice them) but he hangs around till he gets them and comes to me when I call him, even though he can see the syringe in my hand...) I believe that Macho knew you were helping him and he knew you loved him to bits. I'm sure he fought as hard as he could for you, but small kittens are such fragile things.

The others are right, He knew warmth and love and comfort with you. He could have died alone on the streets somewhere like so many strays do but he died with his guardian angel looking after him as best she could. I'm so sorry.

I think cats are very intuitive and know when we are trying to help them even if they put up an argument about it. I have to pill and give my Tess an insulin shot twice a day. She doesn't like it but she seems to understand that I am doing it for her.

Macho knew that you loved him. You were providing critical care to save him not torturing him. He was warm and comforted by your presence.

You might find some comfort in this story about the Rainbow Bridge:
http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm

Someday when you are ready, I believe Macho will bring another kitten to you. The new kitten won't replace Macho, but will be a wonderful addition to your family. {{{hugs}}}

Thank you all for your advice and support. I wish I would've been able to spend all that time loving him and not torturing him with syringes and doctor visits. I hope that he knew how much I loved him and all that I wanted for him. I hope he is in a better place where he feels great and can be the bouncy kitten with a life he deserved to have.
I have also lit a candle- DES in the group tdk
After two losses, i may not get another for a while. But will check in to see how your little ones are.
Thank you again for everything

MK, so sorry to hear that the little one didn't make it. Sometimes the Big Plan only allows one a short time here as a brave spirit is needed elsewhere and this plane may only be a short stop on the way to a different destination. We who are left behind can only grieve and accept until we are reunited with those we've lost, both human and furkind.

Macho was breathing slow last night when I checked on him, I laid with him for an hour and pet him, he had wet his bed so I changed his bedding. He was acting very lethargic and didnt want to stand when I removed him to do the changing.I figured he was just tired since I had woken him up and it was about 3am.
7am my husband went in to check on him and his breathing was very slow. He called me to come in and I immediatley called the ER in the vet hospital and told them we would be there shortly. I bundled my little man up and rushed him in.
5min after they took him back they came to get us and said the vet would like to speak with us in another room. We went in, Macho wasnt with her. She quickly explained that he had gone into cardiac arrest. She had oxygen on him and they were currently performing CPR.. but he was a VERY sick kitten. Even if she did revive him, he probably would not make it. She explained that he had a virus that was consistantly shutting his immune system down more and more. SInce he had been on antibiotics for 2weeks now, she said he most likely would not pull out of it. She said she could tell that we had been taking good care of him but it wasnt something he could fight. He was alive only by manual cpr and she asked if she could let him go. I unwillingly said okay. ='(
Its ben a pretty hard morning. But I'm glad he is no longer suffering and was glad I got to be a part of his life, even a short one. I said a prayer while lying with him last night and I guess this was gods will.
Rest in Peace my little Macho Man

MK, it does sound as if it is painful to him. It may be nothing serious, just an accidental scratch or something, but, as I say, if he were mine, I would take him to the vet unless there is a rapid improvement and he has opened it again by tomorrow morning. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by it looking 'black' but that worries me too.

Machokitty, if his eye is closed, unless it's just gunk sticking it shut, that is a sign that it is painful and the fact that you think it looks black is worrying. I would ring the vet, who might well advise you to bring him in.

GOt some KMR down him, thats probably the easiest ive gotten him to take anything! Started yacking like he was going to vomit every now and then.. dont know what that was about? Getting aother feeding in before bed and another dose of Clav.!
Right eye is really bad! It doesnt look right, he wont open it and when i do to look at it, the whole eye looks black!? Very strange, he wont open it at ALL. I will try the chamomile tea on it, never eard of that before, good to know!
Is the KMR alone okay for now? Thats the only thing that seems managable to him. Doesnt like the a/d wet food one bit!

For his eye you can make up some camomile tea and bath the eye with it. It's a little messy but you are already dealing with the mess anyway so a little more won't matter. Make a cup of camomile tea, let it cool and then soak a cotton ball or the end of a face cloth and swab his eye. Camomile tea has terrific healing properties in it. Also if you have any food coloring you can put a drop in his water. Kittens can't see water and don't understand what it is so a little food coloring makes it easier for them. Good luck and please keep us posted.

I dont know if he has been wormed, looking through all his vet bills and besides his first vaccinations, neuter & Felv test I dont see any other proceedures before I got him.
I think I will leave his ears alone for now and just continue the drops since they are not bothering him. I am wondering if I should wait to put the flea treatment (Revolution for puppies and kittens) on him now or wait till he gets a little better and after a bath ? The last thing I want to do is irritate little Macho even more.
He isnt doing too well with the syringe, its getting super frustrating I cant get anything in him!! I keep telling him Im only doing it because I care.. just wish he'd listen! Had my friend who is in town for the weekend & worked in a vet clinic come give him that first dose of wet solids last night, doing it on my own this morning was nearly impossible. Trying to burrito him in a towel with one hand so he cant run away and open his lips and squirt it in his mouth with the other. I think more ended up down his neck and on me than anything.
I do have a pet store just down the road and am running to pick up the kitten milk.
PROGRESS**
He had a semi-solid stool this morning when i went in to wake him up!
Showed interest in water dish! Blew bubbles of spit & wet food goo, from his earlier feeding, out the side of his mouth, lol.. He tried a couple of times to poke his nose in the water but I dont think he got any down. I was just excited he even paid attention to it. No more green snot, still not breathing too well though
Still keeps one eye shut, I clean it with warm wet cotton make-up rounds but it doesnt look like he has anything in it. I think its just irritated.

Thank you all for your thoughts and advice, I am trying everything possible suggested and will keep you updated.!

If there's tons of flea dirt but no fleas, that doesn't mean there are no fleas. I strongly recommend immediately buying a 2 lb bag of food-grade diatomaceous earth (DE) and using it on the kitten, on any carpeting, upholstered furniture, and mattresses. (Also wash bedding & pillows.) You may be able to find some at a garden center store or nursery, though you'll want to call; also make sure there are no added substances to the DE, like pyrethrins or permetrins; those are toxic to kitties. Don't buy DE that's pool grade; it won't work.

Seriously, the eggs can take up to 2 weeks to hatch. Just because there aren't any fleas right this moment, doesn't mean there aren't fleas tomorrow or the day after. Diatomaceous earth is completely non-toxic, and the safest substance to use for eliminating crawling insects of all kinds.

A couple sources and more information:

http://www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html

http://www.internet-grocer.net/diatome.htm

Also, has the kitten been wormed? Intestinal parasites can be robbing the kitty of badly-needed nutrients.

You're doing such a good job with this little one MK..you and he just keep fighting! You mentionned sores in his mouth..did your vet check for calicivirus? Pretty common in the little ones; and I think it resolves itself in 2 weeks or so...I hope the vet can help make him more comfortable; hugs to you both for now!

MK, welcome to TDK, I'm sorry it's under such difficult circumstances. I can't add to the advice you've had here, just wanted to say I'll be thinking of you and the little one today - hope the vet can help some more. What you're doing is incredible, he will thank you for it when he's better! And I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Nacho, must make this all the more heartrending {{hugs}}

Macho kitty. please take the above advice. Absolutely, you should only clean the outside part of the ear. But I wonder whether Buttercup's point may be the best of all, your little angel has so much going on right now, that if the ears aren't bothering him , the most important is to keep him warm, hopefully hydrated as best as possible and most importantly to the vet in the morning.
Please keep us posted.

Heheheh torture him so long as he gets better MK! And so lng as he cuddles with you he instictively knows you aren't the devil jsut a pain in the tush hehehe! I am hoping he will be fine, if he is loaded with fea dirt did they do a CBC to check his blood levels and celll counts?

My baby whenI got him was a healthy 8 week old mainecoon, and things were fine and then in july he had a slight heart murmur, august it was more septmeber when he went in to get fixed they did blood work and found him to be anemic with an 8% red blood cell count! He never has shown a single sign he was sick. After much expense on my part my baby is now a little more then 7 months old and healthy and strong as an ox and into and on everything he can and he eat,s and plays hard. He is on a steriod calle dprednizone and on iron supplements. He ahs progressed very well and his blood work conitues to improve he will be going in again in december to get a check up and more blood smears to check his red blood levels and cell counts, if well h will be taken off the prednizone but will be on iron supplements for life!

I was told you shouldn't swab in a cats ears further than you can see. They are very sensitive and easily hurt. Also in case you don't have a pet store close WalMart also sells milk replacement. It's very inexpensive and comes in a little box like juice (not in the refrigerated section) Good luck. I'm sorry I can't give you more help because it sounds like you sure have your hands full with this poor little baby.

MK I would only clean the outer part of the ear and leave the more thorough cleaning for the vet to do and it is possible to damge the ear.
Of most importance is getting calories into him,if he doesn't get enough calories then he can't get better from this illness. Try to minimize disturbances to him, wrap him in a towel or blanket and dribble the liquified A/D into his mouth. Do your best.
Good luck and thanks for taking such good care of him.
