Rue is Ruta graveolens (Jackmans Blue), so that's what you're looking for, not Meadow Rue (Thalictrum dioicum). But I would try fresh rue. Maybe a half-dozen potted rue plants, with plastic saucers (to conserve water), placed strategically.</p> <p>The trick would be to go ahead and get the fresh rue and cut off a handful of it, then crunch it in your hands a few times and sprinkle in front of your door. Then close the door for the night. (Maybe several nights.) Then dispose of the crunched rue on garbage day.</p> <p>It's not particularly easy to find; though it's an herb, it's toxic for internal consumption. So places that sell basil or lavender or sage might not sell rue. If all else fails, order seeds from Stoke's and grow from seed; it's ludicrously easy to grow. (Given your climate, you'd want to have it in plastic pots with saucers outdoors, or directly in the ground, so you wouldn't have to water as frequently.)</p> <p>If you decide to grow your own rue, let me know. I have some water-retaining crystal polymer that, when added to potting soil, helps cut down on the watering frequency quite a bit. I use it in window boxes here, and it helps a lot. (I have gobs, so I could easily send you all you'd need.)</p> <p>This is the single best cat repellent I've ever encountered. My dearly departed Booger once sniffed a sprig of rue. Only once! His entire face wrinkled up, he shot a few feet backwards, and he looked like he tried to turn himself inside out through a violent dry-heave. (And he stayed out of arms' reach for hours and sulked, which he almost *never* did. The spray deterant I bought at Home Depot worked well, but what actually worked best (and is the cheapest) were moth balls.... I sprinkled them around where he would come and spray, and he stayed away. Got the idea from my pest control guy who told me to throw moth balls under my rental houses with crawl spaces that were having problems with rats builing nests under them. My tenants didn't complain about smelling the moth balls, apparently the subflooring was thick enough where it didn't permeate... so my only caution is if you can smell them through your window, you might now want to put them around it. You could try it and see. That's a very lg. complex. Do you have any kind of community room or display board that you could put up a notice asking other tenants if they own said cats? Other than that,I wish I could help. I live in a small mobile home park,which makes it easy to go door to door to find out or let someone have it when they aren't aware of their cat's goings on. Good luck. Henry started to spray about a week before his scheduled neuter appointment, and the spray was recommended by somebody here on TDK. </p> <p>It is a pheromone spray that is supposed to deter cats from spraying. I'd suggest thoroughly cleaning the area, then spraying the feliway on any places where the male cat has sprayed. I'm not sure how well this will work since it's outside, but it's worth a shot. </p> <p>My mom also got a really great odor remover from our vet, to de-smell her laundry room where we had to house poor Hen before his spa day.
