Anyone that volunteers at this shelter surely would be upset to think they'll walk back in to find all the animals they've cared for gone?? I now better understand why you said it. I have not been here very long and I try to keep the majority of my posts upbeat and on a positive note. This week has had a great deal of loss and heartbreak. This thread and your posts have made me realize something, I can be support to those who need it and I can try and uplift others with bits of humor but I can not change the world until I truly know what is going on in my own back yard. I can wish the best for the innocent animals in other areas but people there need to stand up and make the difference there. What I can do is try and help those who might need it here where I live. I now understand that you were not trying to be harsh but honest about the facts of life and death when it comes to "shelter" situations. I do have a wish that someday I could open a no-kill shelter for cats in my area but until that dream comes true I need to be in contact with our shelter to see what their policies are and to get the word out about them. This next statement might be off the wall but, I am glad the guy at work didn't get his cat spayed or I wouldn't have three little babies sharing my life. My husband would never have just gone out and adopted anymore cats. We had been through it and Max was going to be our last cat. So much of the problem is uncontrolled breeding, that leads to over population. If these dogs and cats cannot find homes, perhaps an easy death is not so bad if you believe in heaven.<br /> This shelter had a problem in the past with incompetent euthanasia practices. I think they have gotten better at humane killing. Humane killing, what a joke of a concept when it comes to healthy adoptable animals. But life is a mystery and if you believe in its innate goodness there must be something about all these innocent animals being killed that has a greater meaning. My personal belief is that animals reflect our state of mind and heart as individuals and a society. There are a lot of people working on behalf of shelter animals trying to create a new paradigm about animal sheltering and society's responsible to homeless animals. </p> <p>I think that some of the animals have gotten rescues.
