She must get the cat to drink as much as possible and at least for the time being stop feeding it dry food immediately. This is vitally important because dry food absorbs the fluids in a cat which adds to the acidity of the urine which affects uti. She can also add some water or even diluted broth to the canned food to get more fluid into it.</p> <p>It has also been suggested that spring water or filtered water is better than tap water because chlorophyl may add to the problem.</p> <p>The one other thing I need to stress, particularly if this is a male cat, is that uti is painful and can be fatal. If there are signs the cat is in distress or there is blood in its urine she must get it to a vet immediately. Delaying even a few hours can mean an agonizing death.
