http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/ Daily Kitten Chat Forum Topic: what does your Vet do when Examining your Kitty en Tue, 14 Feb 2012 18:36:43 +0000 http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/topic/12746#post-305787 Fri, 26 Dec 2008 11:05:41 +0000 Niki and Charlie 305787@http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/ <p>My vet is an awesome guy whom I've known my whole life (my mom's gone to him for over 20 years)<br /> When I arrive, I give the stool to one of the ladies so they can check it.<br /> He asks if there're have been any changes in their diet or behavior, then for the exam:<br /> First he pets them down to feel their bodies and moves their fur around to look for bugs/skin probs.<br /> Listens with his stethoscope.<br /> Looks into the ears.<br /> Opens up the mouth and takes a peak.<br /> Pulls out the scale for weighing.<br /> Looks at their bums<br /> Depending on if there're shots involved will determine if he takes their temp. I don't think he does it all the time, but I'm not sure. The last few times I've gone were for shots so the temp was taken each time.<br /> He tells me that they're healthy and if they get shots explains the side effects and to call if they're not 100% in 24 hours.</p> <p>I would def look for a vet who can give you diet information. Probably I would be looking for a better vet.</p> <p>Mine does all of the things that the others have mentioned. Any problems or specific concerns?) </p> <p>Then she checks ears, eyes, mouth/teeth, and coat. She gives the cat a good hands-on inspection (palpating abdomen, chest, and along the spine), checks for hydration (pinch test) and listens to heart, lungs, abdomen.</p> <p>Then she gives advice. They also carry special versions of brands like Science Diet or Hills' (such as low protein for kidney problems and nutrient rich foods for sick/recovering animals). And she and the other vets are always ready to take a few minutes to explain procedures and/or diagnoses.</p> <p>Your present vet sounds very slapdash to me. I would certainly expect to be given some dietary advice if it were needed. On balance, I don't think this vet sounds all that good. Check kitties temperature<br /> 2. Check kitties eyes and noses<br /> 3. Did not examine kitties anal area.</p> <p>The Veterinarian said kitties should lose some weight (I agree) but when I asked for information on a proper kitty diet I was told: "We don't have any of that information here."</p> <p>The exam on each kitty took less than four minutes. I could have weighed my kitties and checked for fleas at home without paying a Veterinarian to do this.</p> <p>What does your veterinarian do when examining your kitties? What do you expect your Veterinarian to do? </p>
