GD, I called the vet's office and left a message to see if they had an update from the radiologist. No return calls as of yet. Also, I just noticed that they clipped Sylvester's claws without asking or telling me about it. I am not happy about this as they cut some of them almost down to the quick. I never cut his nails as close as the technician cut his. I let them know this when I left my message and will mention to the vet that they should ask the client first if they want their cat's claws clipped before doing so. I don't need them to do it as I never had a problem with clipping Sylvester's. He is so good about it. That just upsets me to no end that they could have hurt him. Other than that, Sylvester seems to be doing okay today. No appearance of any limping. He came and woke me up a couple of times again to cuddle and knead my belly. My big lovebug kitty.

It is a free standing balcony with the fencing and railing. I am on the second floor so there is a balcony above me that covers mine (I could be on it when it is raining and not get wet). Thx.

Thank you for the update SMM. I think we all know how it is when life takes over! Hope your tires are safe and Sylvester has recovered. What a good thing the vet noticed his heart and it can be watched if necessary. Maybe Mia will stop being so silly with the hissy fits!

The vet said that two of my cats needed to lose weight, and the other two were fine. He said to only feed them twice a day and told me exactly how much dry food to put down. I worried that limited in the food would cause the right-sized ones to lose weight but I gave it a try. Turns out that the two who weren't overweight ate as much as they needed twice a day and maintained their weight. The two chunky cats ate what was leftover. But, because they didn't have food out all day to eat, they lost weight. The only thing I have to do is make sure both the skinny ones are awake and get their noses into the bowls first.

Occasionally one of the skinny cats will ask for food in the middle of the day, which I take to mean that they didn't get quite enough for breakfast. I give them a little more and everybody is happy. Of course, in the morning everyone wants to be fed so they start jumping on the bed at the crack of dawn.

What a great relief. When my Mom moved into an apartment I fixed something up so her cat could go out. If you are interested let me know and I can give you better instructions but what I did was get some netting from a garden store. It was the kind you lay over your garden so squirrels don't eat your veggies. It is plastic and comes either clear or green. I attached it to 2 poles the height of the balcony (one at either end) and you couldn't even see. It went from floor to ceiling, side to side. Actually after I put it up there were a number of residents who came to my mom and asked her if I would make one for them. It was so easy I am amazed no one else does it.

Awwwww...Karin, I love how sweetly Sylvester woke you throughout the night for cuddles. Poor sweet Sylvester was so glad to be home with mom and really needed that reassurance. Why is it the other kitties we have get so obstinate with the sick kitties when what they really need is a little empathy. Oh well...that's kitties for you. Your plan to help Sylvester with his weight sounds like a good one. It is difficult when you live in a small place to maintain separate food stations for two kitties. I bet he'll hate losing his freedom to the balcony but I would probably do the same thing if I were you. Please let us know when the radiologist has made a report on his x-ray. =)

I am very sorry for the delay. I got Sylvester home last night and proceeded to hover over him like a concerned mama and never signed onto the computer and this morning, I had to go take my car in as I was having tire pressue issues. I sent a text message to Petpntr from my phone as I was waiting for my car. I am sorry to have kept you all waiting and should have let you know last night. Sorry about that.

When I got Sylvester home last night, he was still groggy from the sedative they gave him in order to take chest and leg x-rays and I stayed with him as I didn't want him to be alone. I had to keep him in the bedroom so that he could recover. The vet had said to do this as she said he shouldn't eat any dry food as he could choke on it. Also, he is not to hop up on anything as she wants him to not have to hop down. Mia hissed and growled at him all last night so I tried rubbing him with a t-shirt I had in the laundry basket. This morning they touched noses but still seems a little wary of him. First he has the trauma of going to the vet and then he has to deal with Mia's bad attitude. Poor guy! I tried to give him lots of reassurance and in fact during the night, he came several times to wake me up and cuddle.

While I was at the vet with him yesterday morning the vet examined Sylvester and tried to stretch out his right leg by putting pressure on his shoulder, he winced as well as when she tried to turn his head to the left (he was okay turning it right). His left leg seemed okay. She also did a check down his spine and said he seemed fine. She wanted the x-rays done due to his wincing with his right leg. He was at the vets all day and I went and picked him up around 5:30pm. The vet said that after looking at the x-rays, he looks fine and didn't see any injuries but that she did see that he has an enlarged heart and is having a radiologist look over his chest x-rays as it could be that it is fat around his heart. She will call me when she knows as she is on duty this weekend and the vet's office is open seven days a week and will also be open on Monday inspite of it being a holiday. She said that his kidneys seem fine but one enzyme seems to have a raised level but she said that the stress from the fall can also trigger it to rise. She said Sylvester needs to lose weight and for me to try to monitor it. Problem with that is I live in a one bedroom apartment and it isn't like I can seperate the cat food bowls. I guess it means taking up the wet cat food when I go to bed at night as well as reducing the amount of dry food. If it inpacts Mia, then I will have to figure something else out as Mia is a good normal weight (all of 8 lbs).

Thank you all for the prayers, healing thoughts and white light. I want Sylvester to have a nice healthy and long life. He had 9 lives but is now down to 7. I don't want him to lose anymore. He will not go out on to the balcony unsupervised anymore if at all.
