I am late coming to this thread because I was out of town, apparently, when the ruckus happened. You know, I just jumped on this site and started putting my 2 cents in. Everyone was supportive from post #1. We are a community in a world where face to face community is not what it used to be. We come because of our love for our felines and we stay because we come to care for and do our best to be there for each other. Many of your handles I recognized from the TDK site and became involved when I read about Gini's Taco (let's not forget Feeney, too). I've always thought a person who doesn't like animals is a person I can't understand or relate to...so I guess that's why we all connect to each other. Animals have the ability to bring people together even in ways that we are unconscious of. s<br /> For example<br /> One day I was waiting at the front of the supermarket and there was this puppy on a lead tied to a pole. It was the cutest thing. Extradorinarily fluffy so that you could barely see its eyes. The amount of people that patted him was amazing...a little group of kids exclaiming their desire for their own puppy, an elderley asian man who could barely walk, a young girl while she held her boyfriend's hand, a 'tough' guy that was covered in tatoos and acted like his affection to the puppy was kind of reluctant...as if the puppy 'got in his way so he had to pat it to usher it away.<br /> Anyway I remember thinking how beautiful it was...how this little puppy created a connection between all these people who were so vastly different.<br /> So that's like us. (Before Chat), and finally got off my tail and posted about 2 months ago. Why do I keep coming back? First, when I found this site BF was in Afghanistan and I was alone with only the cats for company. Following everyone's stories was a way to pass the time so the evenings didn't seem so long. After a while, I came to know most of you, and looked forward to the adventures of your cats, and all the funny comments and recipes and just plain silly stuff (one of my favorite threads is MCW's Easter egg hunt). After a while I understood something: The world can be a pretty lousy place (especially these days, it seems) - but here there is a group of people who genuinely like and care for each other. Unlike a lot of the Internet, there is no snark, no one-upping each other, no flame wars (well, most of the time). It's a refuge from all the meanness and sadness that sits just outside the window. I have been a TDKer for a very long time. I date back to the early days when there would be only a few posts each day about the cuteness of the kitten....Then...kitten napping started and then Dee and Cat Rancher would talk food and wine and I would join in. Then other friends came along and the threads got longer and longer. I saw friendships blossom and fantastic devices created (Whack-Bonk Sticks and COA's to name just two) I would try to encourage kitten-nappers to bring the kittens to "the sharing circle" When we grew to the size that we needed to change the sharing circle and the food talk blossomed into the TDK Cafe and it is still the best place to find out how everyone's day is going. I've seen friends join in and sometimes go away and somtimes come back again. This is such a supportive, fun, funny and crazy place. We laugh together, we cry together, sometimes we get mad at each other, but through it all the spirit of the place remains the same. I love that many of us email each other, check up on each other, send Christmas cards and genuinely care about each other. We are from all over the globe, we are all different colors, cultures, religions, political pursuasions, and orientations, yet we have formed close bonds. Yes I am writing a novel but it is hard to stop. I hope this community never stops!
