Oh TL that is so thoughtful of you. Amelia appreciates it very much and returns a head butt to you. I have just now written an update and will post it in a new thread. Thank you so much.

Petpntr, you are in the majority when it comes to kitties not listening. But you are doing such a good patient job with Amelia. When I first brought Betty home I had no where to keep her sucluded. So I had to fix her up her own bed and put small water and food bowl next to it on the love seat. She was still recovering from her spa visit and scared because she didn't know anyone or anything around her. She didn't know how to live inside, or that she didn't have to fear the things around her. During her healing time, she kept the other kitties away with a small growl if they came to close. They pretty much just ignored her till she was all better. She is now the sweetest, best behaved kitty I have ever had...

AZD you must have good vibes in your home for them to walk in and feel comfortable immediately. I think you must be a very special person to accomplish that. I don't know if any of you remember Bubby. Bubby was the beautiful black cat who died and I did a memorial candle and page for him and got really involved with his mom Rose. She has that same kind of energy in her home. Cats just seem to find her back door, she brings them in, talks to them and explains they better all get along and they do. The resident cats don't seem to get their nose out of joint and she says that in over 20 years she has never had a problem. I told her she needs to come and visit here.

I talk to mine and explain things to them but they are not listening :)

You have made more progress with Amelia than you might believe, my opinion. You have gads of patience with them all, you are a good meoma :D

I have been so lucky with all of these walk-ins that I have adopted....all three of them have walked in the house and just immediately made themselves at home. I have wrestling matches but the others did that anyways, no claws out and the normal rough-and-tumble noises when they are playing. I know of two ticky fights that they have had and thats it so far.

I wonder if Amelia grabs because of her time in the shelter. Some cats in shelters get very 'grabby' because it's the only way they've figured out to 'reach out' for attention (even if it's negative attention).

Very good of you to help her realize that if she grabs & nips, Mama goes away. No reward in it! Soon she'll leave off doing it altogether.

Petpntr, sounds like you have a world of paitience. Hang in there. All will be fine in due time and the kitties will let you know when that is. :-)

I love Amelia's name. Sounds so girl kitty.

Bet your way of training her not to bite will work fairly soon. I was able to teach Frisky that much the same way although I have to remind him once in awhile with a stern voice "no biting" when he gets too aggressive with love nips.

Petpntr...I wish you lots of patience, but, even with that said, I have a feeling you won't be having too many problems. I sure wish I could get Hopper to accept the other cats here & vice-versa. He doesn't growl or anything like that, but,as soon as he's in a room with them, he shoots off like a bullet at them.
His own son Spunky is really annoyed with him. Spunky stands about 4 ft. away from him, of course with a screened door between them, & just hisses & hisses at him until I either tell him to quit or he thinks he's told his old man off.
It would make life much easier wouldn't it if we all followed Martin Luther Kings quote of...Can't We All Just Get Along? lol

Thanks for letting us know. It sounds to me like she's doing fine. God only knows what she's been through. With our Kara and Karina, we had them in a room for 2 weeks before we started any introductions. For the first 4 days they hid under a chair. When we started to introduce the rest of our family, we brought in only one kitty at a time, with the door closed so others would not intude. It took a while. I remember that after a month or 5 weeks we kept the door to their room open but they still ddid not venture out for a good 2 more weeks and then it was just for short periods.
I have no doubt that with your love and patience , she will thrive. I have a feeling that her growling is just her little way of reassuring and/or protecting herself.

Wow, you have to be a kitty psychiatrist, too. Poor kitty-she must have had a terrible past. Good luck with the continued introductions.

Thanks for asking TL. Amelia is doing fine but no great progress the last couple of days. I have her in a room by herself and I go in to visit and sit with her a number of times during the day. Bonnie has stopped hissing when she is in the general vicinity and Toby is still curious. However, they have not yet seen each other.

I was going to do a short introduction yesterday but decided it was too soon. I close Toby and Bonnie off in my bedroom in the afternoon and let Amelia wander around for about one hour. She was not a happy camper. She keeps looking back behind her and seems to be expecting something to come out of the woodwork at her. Then she purrs, then she growls.

Poor thing is very confused right now but it has only been 4 days. A proper introduction and socialization can take weeks sometimes, depending on the cat involved. She comes when I call her though so she has become accustomed to her name but we have been having a power struggle and she likes to get her way.

A few times when I reached to pet her she grabbed my hand and tried to bite. She must learn that is no longer necessary because that hand will never hurt her. I give her a very stern "NO" and leave the room without another word. She does not like that I leave her and will cry a little after I shut the door.

She will soon put the two together: when I try to bite - Mom goes away. I just know this is a habit that she will break but only time will do that. The sooner she realizes she is going to be loved and never hurt, the better for both of us. So although I have no great news to report at least I don't have any bad news.

I think I will have to wait until next week to leave the door open enough for Toby and Bonnie to see Amelia. I will leave it about 1 inch so neither can get to each other and that will probably take a week before the door will finally be left open entirely and I will just pray for harmony.
