There is a good chance he will like it, Karin...my cats are pretty picky and they all like it...it is like extra stinky tuna water...and most cats love that.

I brush Sylvester at least once a day and he absolutely loves being brushed (likes to eat the brush too). No matter how much I brush him though, the oiliness and flakes are there.

Thank you for the link to the article Dee. Amazingly enough, Sylvester has always had the issue of not drinking enough water even though I provide one of those cat water fountains. I will look into the idea of the cod liver oil. Hopefully he will like it as he can be quite finicky.

Here is an informative article on oily dandruff at the base of a kitty's tail...it is pretty common.

SMM...I have nothing I can suggest, but,I am having the same problem with my long-haired girl Lacy. She's real sensitive near the base of her tail. I brush her quite often because of the long fur, but, I think I'm going to have to do the same thing with her as your going to do with Sylvester. I have a bottle of No-Rinse kitty shampoo I'm going to try on her.

When I got Sylvester as a kitten I noticed that he wasn't in the habit much of cleaning himself. He does clean himself after he uses the litter box and sometimes he cleans his face after he eats (just not everytime or maybe I don't see him do it) but after his last vet visit it has come apparent that he isn't reaching the fur near the base of his tail. The fur has become oily and he has white flecks now. The vet says he has a skin condition now. I tried washing him with some kitty wipes last night but they didn't do anything and in fact made the white flecks appear more. His fur still felt oily so I don't think the kitty wipes were enough to clean. I am guessing I will have to get a wash cloth and some natural pet soap and wash him with soap and water? He is going to be so mad at me after I do that and I am concerned he will become afraid of the bathroom sink.

Does anyone have suggestions for helping Sylvester with keeping his fur clean near the base of his tail?
