I hope so, too. I really want him to go to a special home; he's so very active, curious, smart, and energetic! I think he's going to be a very special pet for someone equally special.

Wow! Even more great news! I got an email from a grad student who's interested in Zoot, one of the kittens in the litter. I'm waiting to hear back from this student; we definitely need to talk on the phone, so I can find out more about the person's experience with pets, cats/kittens, etc.

I'd be driving halfway across Missouri if this adoption goes through, but if Zoot would be going to a good person & home, I'd be more than willing to do it.

Yay!

Thanks Rubia...It looks like the same list I checked out several months back before Runt had her babies. I had checked the one in P-Town as well as the newly expanded one in Dublin. They were all full up due to "Kitten Season". I'll make some new phone calls this week & see if I can't get them at least on a waiting list. I would honestly try working on a long-term fostering system here, especially realizing how long it sometimes take to adopt out an animal, except that we really can't be sure if this park is going to be history or not. Right now,the residents don't even have a signed lease of any kind with the park owner. That's dangerous for both owner & residents. Most the homes have been here over 35 yrs. If they closed the park,no home here would hold up to the pressure of moving them. I'm going to just try getting on as many waiting lists as I can for now. If I should trap the Siameezer mom, there's a Siamese Rescue in Walnut Creek who might take her. Hugs.

Here is a link to a site that claims to have a comprehensive list of no-kill shelters by state. http://www.saveourstrays.com/no-kill.htm

Hi, Susie! Glad you're going to contact them. I hope they can help you; it's no good to be spread too thin, trying to do so much for so many critters. I'm maxed out at 6 personal indoor cats, 5 outdoor ferals/strays, and Pretty Girl and her 5 kittens! Before I can help any other cats, I have to make sure Pretty Girl and her kittens are taken care of.

I'm hopeful that at least one of the organizations can help you, once you explain your situation. Even if they must be separated, change isn't necessarily a bad thing; it's something new to adjust to, that's all.

And maybe I should have been a veterinarian in another life, but for this one, I'll settle for being a big-hearted softie. LOL

I'm probably going to do just that. Pets & Pals first. I like the condition of animals they have there & the cats have lots of room. Who knows...with winter coming on,they may at least have room for Runt & her 2 black kitties Thumper & Spider, since they can all be kept together. We'll see. Thanks for the help anncetera. You should've been a veteranarian.

Susie, have you contacted the organizations to see if you can get any of your cats onto a waiting list to be admitted? Maybe those first 3 organizations listed? Even if you have to wait for weeks or months, or even if there's a fee associated with surrender, the help would be a boon for the cats remaining with you.

anncetera...Manteca Animal Shelter is definately a kill shelter.
Stockton Animal Shelter was full up. They did offer alittle food if needed, but ,would have to drive there. The amount they could provide couldn't compensate for driving distance, gas, etc. I guess I could contact The Delta Humane Society. They were pretty much full up also last time I called, but it's been awhile. Trouble with them is the cats nver get out of their cages there. Some are there for months & months. I've heard that even tho they are no kill, when overcrowding happens, they weed out least likely cats to be adopted & do euthanize them. Even tho I'm getting all them fixed here, with the exception of Prettygirl(she'd been outside 17 mos.before I trapped her),I've stopped releasing them outside after fixing them. We live in a park with a 2 pet limit(I'm well over that) & we're not sure if the park will be here much longer. They're talking of removing it. Besides, what animals I do have inside that have been spayed/neutered have been socialized for adoption & are quite healthy. If I were to not care & release them back out, they would revert back to feral & the added animals would be quite visual & cause possible eviction from park. Prettygirl & her bro Naughty would also be prime candidates for adoption if I had the room inside, but don't. They are quite loving & sociable. Something will work out. I just don't dare want to feel panicked like I have in the past.
Thanks anncetera for your tips & your help. You have been a big help along the way of taking care of the ones I do have. Hugs

Susie, I don’t know if you’ve tried contacting all of the following groups, but here’s a start on what I was able to find. You might find some organizations are more willing to help you, if you indicate you're able to foster your animals until they can find homes for them. You will need to make a clear distinction between those animals you’re doing TNR for (and just need help getting the spay or neuter done before returning outdoors), and those which are adoptable, and need not only spay or neuter surgery, but help in finding homes. Be sure to explain your financial & transportation challenges in trying to do the right thing for all these cats. And if an organization indicates they can't help you, be sure to ask them if they know of an organization that might be able to help.

Have you asked local vets about putting up flyers at their offices? Or asking them to keep you in mind, if they know of someone who might be interested in a cat/kitten? Best to call them, ask for about 5 minutes of the vet’s time, and be prepared to make your plea & provide info/photos of the cats & kittens you’re trying to get adopted. (Might also help to suggest that any adoption fee would be 100% donated back to the clinic.)

I’m assuming the Manteca Animal Shelter is a kill shelter, but do they have any sort of volunteer organization helping adopt out their animals? If so, I’d contact the volunteer organization, but to find out if there is one, you’ll need to call the animal shelter.

anncetera...we're limited for resources here that don't kill after a time limit.I've called sources within the area & it's always the same...they're full up cuz of kitten season. Excuse me but, cats can have kittens all year round,& mine aren't getting any smaller. This last Siamese is a perfect example. No sooner does she wean her kittens& she's pregnant again. In fact,I think she may be that way now. The last feral male of her previous litter has yet to be trapped & neutered. He's gone for weeks at a time & ONLY shows up when there's a female in heat. Well,he just payed us a visit 4 nights ago, & hasn't been seen since. I'm sure he had his way with his Trollop mother. I'm also sure I'll get her in due time. I'm just spoiling her rotten & kissing her butt,& when she least expects, she's mine. I just can't do it with a trap. She knows them too well. I've heard a few here talk of using Benadryl to relax a cat when they're stressed. I'm thinking maybe if I work that into plan, her reaction time won't be so good & make It easy for me. I just don't know how much to use. I don't want to hurt her. Anyways...I'm in Manteca,Ca.(San Joaquin Couty)

Ppearson, I've never owned a meezer (or, more properly, been owned by one). However, I used to have a cat that I swore up one side and down the other MUST have been part meezer - he was that talkative! Booger was a very expressive kitty, smart as a whip, a little neurotic, and the very definition of a mama's boy! However, he had no meezer markings; was a black & white shorthaired cowcat. I would have been frightened if he ever sprouted thumbs!

I still miss him.

Anncetera...the only thing I've been provided with are the vouchers to get them spayedor neutered. This woman is somewhat cheap because the vouchers don't cover any shots. I was lucky enuf to have a person I knew that was capable of giving shots to animals around at the time. My Prettygirl has never had any shots, but came out of spay surgery unscathed & pretty darn healthy. Her 3 kittens I just had spayed & neutered were given their first shots early on,thank goodness. The Siameezer mama out back is the Last female left that needs fixing. She's brought all 4 of her newbies into our yard,so I can keep close watch on them. I was literally able to handle the first friendly one. I could've snapped him up,but thought it would be best to let him be for now. She's my focus right now. It's a shame that someone abandoned this cat because she's the prettiest Snowshoe Siamese I've ever seen close up.

Anncetera, great news on Pretty Girl. I have always been owned by meezers (and a few other types of cats) and they are special. I have never obtained a meezer from a breeder (though I have no objections to responsible breeders) they have all but one been either adopted from people who could no longer keep their beloved kits or adopted from shelters. The one exception was a meezer kitten born to the pregnant meezer that my mom adopted. I had her from first breath to last

Susie, did you ever find any other groups within a 2 hour drive to help you out? At least to help get them all spayed & neutered, and basic shots?

I'm envious anncetera...I couldn't put it better into words of how I feel than how you put it out there in your 3rd paragragh. Just this morning I was telling man/friend I had this vision of putting the kittens into a sealed box...with plenty of air holes I might add...& dropping them off at Pets-n-Pals in the middle of the night. Of course,I really would not do that, but,as you say,the overwhelming frustration that builds knowing they're missing out on the quality attention & happiness we intend for them to have by rescuing them from harms way, leads us to think with a twinge of desperation. I feel bad putting them back in their cages after bouts of playtime, but ,there's no other way of keeping control of the madness.

Anncetera...I wish all the luck in the world to you that your Pretty Girl & kittens find forever homes. Each & every animal deserves the love & happiness that they give us unconditionally. Hugs & Kitty Kisses. Susie

Great news! Shortly after December 16th, Pretty Girl will be taken into the care of Kansas City Siamese Rescue. They are a no-kill group, and will find her an indoor-only home and loving family, not intending to declaw; until then, she’ll be either at their facility or in a foster home.

I’m waiting to see if a local animal hospital, that also acts as a municipal shelter, can help me place the kittens. Otherwise, I’ve arranged with KCSR to bring the kittens to two of their mobile adoption sessions, at the end of December, to see if we can get them adopted.

It’s so good to get help for this! It’s so overwhelming to try to ‘go it alone’ when getting cats adopted. These guys deserve a decent shot at a life that’s better than the one I could provide with my already-too-many-cats family, with more individualized attention.

Thank goodness for rescue organizations like KCSR!
