Thank you all so much for all of your time, advice, thoughts and well-wishes. It's so funny...I was desperate for advice and I literally Googled "My kitten keeps crying and doesn't want anything to do with me" and up popped The Daily Kitten in the search results. Jackson is absolutely thriving and it didn't take long at all with everyone's fantastic advice. This week I will try and put up a catster page for Jackson...I'm a super proud mama and i think he is a very handsome boy and I can't wait to show off his pictures. Jackson's personality is large and in charge! He's kinda naughty...but in a good way. He LOVES my kids and they adore him...he is soooo spoiled. Funny story...the other day Jackson jumped up on the kitchen table and I gave him a quick squirt with the water bottle and it sent him running. At the same time my boys (6 & 7) were wrestling in the living room and driving me nuts. I had warned them over and over again...so I squirted them too! LOL. They asked what was THAT for?! And I said, "Well it worked for Jackson...I thought I'd try it on you two!"

I think you've gotten excellent advice from all of us kitty lovers. I suspect that Jackson was not handled or socialized and I have worked with a feral mama cat and had some experience with stand offishness. It takes awhile to gain their trust but you sound like you are getting there. Jackson will start to branch out when he feels secure in his new environment. Hugs to you for all your efforts! Love those purrs ...

All fantastic advice here, and so heart-warming to read of your progress with lucky little Jackson. Sounds like he's not used to kind contact from humans, and I always think it must be the worst thing can happen to be suddenly removed from your mother and littermates, and find yourself in a strange, big place with entirely different smells and sounds, alone for the first time in your short life. How are you both doing now?

I am so happy that you have a new kitty! Welcome! I'm sure with the good care and love he will trust you soon. I don't have any experience with meezers but I do know that they are "talkers". I am an advocate of Royal Canin's "Baby Cat" dry. It is in very small pieces. My orphaned ferals seem to really like it. As far as scratching posts, my boys Wilbur and T-Do have both the pillar type and the horizontal (cardboard). I only have 2 inside kitties and live in a 2 story house. There are 2 litter boxes upstairs and 2 downstairs. With that many I don't have any worries. They are both covered. Thanks so much for taking this baby. We all try to do our best for the kits. Some of these "breeders" are pretty crafty. You are lucky that he is healthy and ready to be loved. I'm sure you will get wonderful advice and lots of care from this TDK family. They are the best!

Trust me, you will probably always have a problem with flinging litter. Almost 4 years later my Wilma flings litter. I ask her if she is digging to China?!?! I would also recommend a covered box but might wait til Jackson is full grown so it "fits" him. Other then that I am so excited he is starting to trust you and bond with you. That is fabulous!

Congratulations - it sounds like Jackson is accepting you as his new mommy. Any type of enclosed litter box should help keep the litter where you want it. Just be careful that you don't get one that's too tall for him to get into. You can also put the entire litter box into a bigger cardboard box and cut one side lower. It won't keep him from flinging litter all over, but it will catch it and make it easier to clean up.

Don't just move the litter box from your bedroom to some other room in one day. Now that he's use to the box where it is, he's just as likely to use the same spot as he is to go looking for the box. Either move it just a few feet a day until you get it where you want it OR get a second box and put it where you want it. Then show him the second box. Let him have both boxes until he's using both of them.

Some kitties never become "pick-them-up-and-cuddle-them" kitties. They come sit in your lap on their terms, and sleep on the bed, but don't like to be picked up. It's too soon to tell which way Jackson will be, but it sounds like he's on his way to being a friendly boy.

Some cats don't respond to catnip. Very few kittens respond to it at all; they usually need to mature a bit first. Some cats don't like the upright scratching posts. Mine have both an upright post and one of those corrugated ones that lie flat on the ground. The important thing is that Jackson learns early where he can and can't scratch.

I hope you get batteries for your camera soon - I'm anxious to see the little apple head.

Just wanted to update really quick. I finally got a decent night's sleep last night! The crying persists, but it is less. Also...Jackson is POOPING. I woke up to quite a stink this morning! I will be happy to be able to move his litterbox to somewhere other than my bedroom! Jackson will now sleep next to me and most of the affection that he accepts is when I'm laying down as opposed to sitting on the floor and especially standing up. He is making one royal mess out of his litter...is there anything I can do about that? Suggestions anyone? Also...I went to Petco on my lunch break today and got him a scratching post and some catnip to put on it. Also...I do not have a big enough stuft animal to be like a pretend mommy kitty...but I do have lot's of smaller stuffed animals...and some of them just happened to be under my bed and I've noticed that Jackson likes to play with them...so hopefully those are giving him some comfort.

I'm very glad that he at least wants to curl up and sleep next to you... that is a BIG step in trust.... cats (meezers especially) are so funny, they want *trust* to be on their terms, but it will take time for them to "gift" you with the pleasure of being a lap cat!!!(4 yrs later,, she has finally "gifted" me with that)... and don't I love it!!

I think you are coming into your own "meowmy". Your baby loves you and will soon trust you with all his heart. You will catch the kitten slang here quickly. AV will have great advice, she has her Abby who is gorgeous as you can see! I know she knows a lot about Siamese kitties. I have never had a Siamese but hope one day to be owned by one. They are beautiful and seem so graceful. Come to think of it, I always am owned by the down on their luck cats, the special needs cats, cats who need extra TLC. A girl can always wish........

Wow! Jackson's made fantastic progress in 24 hours! Well done KST!

Has anyone suggested the beanie baby thing? Sometimes very young cats cry because they're missing their siblings, so a little soft toy to snuggle up with can be very calming.
