It even mirrors today, when times are tough and more people are using libraries' resources to find jobs or further their knowledge/education. From the book I learned the dedication it takes to be a librarian. I would love to see a cat in libraries. I guess I haven't spent enough time in libraries or thought about them much in recent years. Vicki's work to make the library relevant and responsive to issues in the community made it almost a partner in helping people get through hard times. It is a much greater resource than simply a place where books are kept. I'd love our library to have a cat, but we tend to find all kinds of things to argue about here. I loved Story Hour! The librarian who read the books was so wonderful - gentle and enthusiastic about getting the children involved. I hated it when I really got too big to go to Story Hour. But what it gave me was a life long love affair with books. I would still much rather read than watch television.</p> <p>Our local library is also the county library and it is amazing. For a city this size, we truly have a remarkable library. They host Brown Bag lunches with interesting speakers (Mr. WWM has given talks there about the ships that he builds); they have an enormous genealogy section; they have rotating displays and special events and they have loads of activities for children. Sadly, they don't have a cat.
