Look earlier in this thread, Julien, you'll see some good advice on Kitten Milk Replacement (please don't feed your new baby cow's milk) and caring for such a little one.

Puss will come around, it'll just take a little time (hug).

Hi Julien, welcome to TDK. What are you feeding the kitten? Sometimes you might need to stimulate thei little behinds by taking a soft, warm, damp washcloth and wiping their little butts right after feeding. This simulates the mother stimulating the little butt to release poo and pee.

Your older kitty sees Milo as a threat, even though we all know the kitten is no threat, it's just cute :-) Give your older kitty some time, and be sure you spend quality time with the current cat, with lots of love, play, petting, and soothing talk.

hi! i'm new here. just wanna share to you coz i have the same dilemma as julia has. i found a cute kitten, i think he's 1-2weeks old., i feed him a lot but unfortunately he doesn't poop nor peed, so im worried. is it normal for baby kittens to be like that. unfortunately, i couldn't find his mother.. pls help me..
and another thing by the way, we have a 1 year old cat but everytime he see's our baby kitten Milo, he's very mad and he makes a threatening sound as if he wants to kill Milo., maybe he's jealous because before, he's the only one who has the attention of everyone here in our house., i'm hoping that he would become friends with Milo, what am i going to do? pls help.. thank you!

HI! I rescued a 2 week old kitten 5 days ago. I have not seem him poop yet either. I took him into the vet and he said to bring him back if he doesn't poop by the end of the day today...The momma was a stray that adopted our house/garage. She is a great cat but too young to be a mom...4 of the 5 died and I decided to take care of this one rather than risking the chance of him dying with the momma also. I have to take the momma to the humane society tonight...she and my husband do not get along at all!! But she loves my girls (5 and 2) and I can carry her and set her in my lap. We named the baby The Great HAMbino...my two year old wanted to name him HAM. He is a big little kitten, I think. And things are looking good so far!!!

Kittens don't poop every day when they are very little. Their bodies take a little while to establish a rythmn of processing what they eat and eliminating waste. Their moms help them go when they are little by stimulating their rear ends by licking them there. That's why human caregivers gently rub the anus of the baby kitten with a warm wet washcloth after the kitten eats to help it go.

You will have more peace of mind once your vet sees Peanut. If you can move the appointment to a sooner date, you will know that Peanut is getting the proper care and you will get answers to your questions.

Please keep posting from time to time to let us know how Peanut and you are doing. Try not to worry! :)

If your older male kitty is 'mothering' Peanut, he may be doing some of the jobs that a mama would ordinarily do. In which case, Peanut may be pooping when the older cat licks him, but you may not be seeing the poops. If the older cat is giving the little guy attention, the baby will definitely benefit from it.

I, too, would take the baby to the vet ASAP. Not because I think there is something wrong with him, just because he is so young and things can go wrong so fast for a baby. The vet will give you peace of mind when he sees what a good job you are being as a substitute mom.
