I am on my third one. I don't grind, I clench and had to go to using the hard kind because I evenutally bite through the soft kind. I cannot sleep without it. If I try I usually end up biting my toungue when I slkeep and that is a very rude awakening! It also has the advantage that is can stop some people from snoring. Another advantage is that once it is fitted it acts like a retainer and your teeth don't shift. I'm not ever aware of it untill I wake up and have to search around the bed to find it, usually ends up under my pillow for some reason. I have TMJ and it is painful. I have a guard made by my dentist that I am supposed to wear at night. I tend to take it out in my sleep in the middle of the night though so I'm not sure how long it stays in or how much good it does. It does seem to help a little. I go through spurts where I'll wear it diligently for a week or so and then I give up but then the pain always gets me to try it again.
