Thanks everyone! Karenopa I am here lurking while I'm at work during the week. I don't post often, but I'm usually here in the background. I could bore you all TO TEARS with all the funny antics little Sprout has been pulling. Lately his fun thing to do is to antagonize Squint, my 17-pound couch potato kitty. Squint ignores him till he can't stand it any longer, then just puts his paw on him and pushes him off. It's hilarious!

We do have a humane trap, but sadly all the ferals are trap-savvy and won't go near one. We are trying to slowly gain their trust. It's seems to be working since they don't run away quite as much any more.

You did a great thing is saving little sprout - he now has a chance to develop into a full-grown cat-tree... Any way to trap mama and get her spayed, since she has demonstrated so little maternal instinct???

Okay, I have been holding out on everyone. But there have been so many folks who have been telling their stories of new kittens, I decided to jump in and tell mine too. I live in the country and there are feral cats around my barn. The newest ferals to move are a solid black mama cat and a solid black daddy cat. These are true ferals, they run away if you look right at them for more than a second. Well, the mama cat had a litter of kittens this Spring. She didn't hide them very well and we at first saw 3 newborns. Later on the count was down to 2. Not too much later I was at the barn and saw the lone remaining kitten, still bobble-headed size, by itself in the cow lot right where the cows hang out daily. I moved him outside the fence, but close to where the 'nest' was. I kept an eye on the little kit all day and the mama did not come back all day to check on or feed him. Late in the afternoon she came around when I put feed out for the evening. She totally ignored the baby even as he toddled after her. Finally she climbed a tree to get away from him and at that point he moved into my house. That was around the end of March. He did not appear sick or injured, just hungry. He didn't even know how to lap KMR, only to nurse from a bottle! I bottle fed him a few days and quickly taught him to lap his KMR from a wide, shallow bowl. Now it's almost 2 months later and I have a bouncing baby boy who has brought me SO much joy! I named him my little Sprout.
