Charlie is just a toddler, in people years. He doesn't know good and bad behavour yet. If he was in a house with lots of other cats, he's probably use to playing rough and having to compete for food. Give him a little time to settle in.

If he were still with his siblings, their play would be pretty rough right now. Since he only has you, he is treating you as if you were his mama, his brothers and his sisters.

One thing you can do when he is misbehaving is to walk away. Another thing is to put your hand on the back of his neck and press his head down, then hiss like his mama would have done. (Don't push hard, just gentle firm pressure like your hand was his mama's paw.)

If you let him play with your hand sometimes, he won't know when it's okay and when it's not. It's best not to let him ever play with human hands and feet. Substitute something else when he wants to play, like an old sock or a stuffed toy. He needs to know that hands are just for holding him and loving him.

So far as trimming his nails, you have to get him use to that slowly. For the first several weeks you just want to handle his paws to get him use to it. It may take two people when you finally start to trim his claws.

He will calm down soon. In six months he'll be mellowed out and you'll be wondering where the crazy kitten baby went.

i got my kitten charlie about 6 weeks ago he was only about 4 weeks in age!! when we first got him he was a perfect tiny friendly little guy. but lately he is a nightmare!!! he is about 10 weeks old now. for the most part he is playful when he is sleeping and before he goes to sleep he loves to be held. but when he wakes up he is a different story. he is always biting us probably thinking he is just playing but it really does hurt. i try to trim his claws he hissed and growled at me the whole time and lunged at me ready to attack. if i give him food and try to put it in front of him he hisses and growls and lunges ready to attack us because he thinks we are trying to take his food!! i just don't know what to do any more. he wasn't a stray cat he came from a home with over 20 cats!!! my old cat i had prior to charlie was the most friendliest little guy you can imagine and i need some advice on how to teach charlie to me more friendly to us or we may have to find some other type of placement for him! i don't want to because i am very attached to the little guy but i just have no clue what to do!! HELP!!
