Since he was there for her all through the hard times it is hard for her to see him in a different "role". I believe it is something that blossomed because she was moving out of the "grieving" stage and was ready to look. She doesn't want to jeopardize her friendship with Mike, but there is a definate connection. They probably both felt similar guilt and I could see anyone in real life having the same kind of mixed emotions. If I were Julie, I would be quite apprehensive, but if I saw the potential for something more, I would openly discuss it and the emphasis of taking their friendship very seriously and how important it is. But I am glad he eventually told her.
