Has anyone had deep-fried pickles? I make them a couple times a year...very different. It's not a whole pickle that is deep fried, it's pickle chips...

Oh course they were saltless!

I like pickled okra, too! And I have the best childhood memories of making watermelon rind pickles with my grandmother. I think that's another thing that you would really only find in the South. They are sweet and delicious.

I Love Kosher Dills!!! I ate one yesterday in Ruidoso!!! (I am sure they were saltless--listen WWM I was celebrating!)

One thing the kids love here is to take the pickle juice and make pickle juice pops! They freeze the stuff and eat it like a regular popcicle!

My mother, who was raised in Spain and later moved to Detroit, made great chow-chow. She did not use cabbage, though. She used all different colors of peppers and onions. She spent days canning it each year and we always ate it with our arroz con pollo. I wonder where or how she discovered chow-chow, since it is mostly considered a southern food.

BTW, speaking of pickled stuff...I love pickled okra!

WWM, I ate three Kosher dills yesterday. They were delicious! (sorry)

When I was in grade school I got really sick after eating pickled onions. Now I just can't even stand to look at them. It may not have even been the onions but that's what I always associate with pickled onions.

Chow-chow is wonderful at Thanksgiving with leftover turkey!

PM. chow-chow is a southern US treat, a pickled relish that might have just about any veggie in it, depending on the recipe, and recipes are handed down in families like prized jewels! And kept equally secreted! The base is usually cabbage, red peppers, and onions, then name-your-spice all chopped fine and pickled. The taste is a combo of sweet-sour-hot. The color can vary from yellow to green or in-between depending on the veggies used. You eat it along with black eyed peas, roast, chicken, fried fish, cornbread, anything. Even though taste, color and spice (heat) can vary widely, it is always Yummy when it's homemade.

ACK!!! I love dill pickles!!! But,as you can probably imagine, I haven't had one in a long time. Those new Vlasic commercials are driving me crazy, though - that crunch!!!!

When I was little they had big vats of pickles at the movie theaters. I always got a pickle and my friends got candy. Guess I was strange even at an early age.

I love dill pickles....my Grandma used to make the best dills! When we lived away, we came back for a visit and she loaded us up with some glass jars of dills, well, they broke in the airport and got all over the 'conveyor' belt in security!!!! Needless to say, they were NOT pleased with the overwhelming smell! LOL! I do love the Clausson garlic dills!

Arcalian, try bringing the onions to a boil in the leftover pickle juice, let it cool and return it to the jar and refrigerate. I do this with mushrooms and it works very well, but I've never tried onions......Best sandwich ever is pita bread spread with cream cheese, then add sharp cheddar, sprouts and dill pickles. Waaaaay YUMMMM!!!!
