Thank you for the reminder. I too found myself caught up in watching the MJ memorial and when I saw this and found out that I as a taxpayer of Calif will be paying for this memorial, it made me angry. It is my understanding that when someone dies, their family or estate pays for the funeral. Why should the taxpayers pay for it?

Also, I most heartly agree on the fact that we should be be focusing on the ones who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Very good point and thank you for the reminder.

Thank you for posting this, TL. These are the true heroes. The ridiculous amount of media coverage given to the death of celebrities, and the last week or so in particular, is nothing short of obscene. We should be honoring those who have actually made true contributions to our country. Really, it is disgusting.

I always hook my poppy to my purse for the month of May. On Veterans' Day, I search out a veteran and thank him/her, give them a hug and ask if there's anything I can do for them. These days, as well as Flag Day and Rememberance Day, I wear red, white and blue. I can't get over the picture I saw in the paper of someone happily waving tickets to MJ's funeral. It made me feel kind of queasy. These people should head for the nearest airport, and greet military when they come home and/or attend a military funeral - priorities are all wrong. Go ahead and grieve for a star you liked, but remember those who truly sacrificed.

It upsets me because I think most Americans let days like Veterans Day and Memorial Day pass by without a thought. We don't in my house. I don't give one hoot about MJ dieing.

I don't know LB. I can trace my family military back to the Revolutionary War. My family has never wanted a spectacle like LA is throwing for a well know musician. They wanted to be buried in a National Cemetary with all the honor that are bestowed and to simply be allowed to grieve. Remembering why we celebrate certain holidays is a good start. The 4th of July is to celebrate the birthday of this great nation that all thos men and women fight to protect. Memorial Day is to remember those that fought for our country and way of life. Veteran's Day is a holiday to give thanks to the men and women that defended this country and those that currently defend the country. Some times it is easy to just think of those holidays as time off.

Man this message really hit home. Makes me sick that so many people would turn out to support this insignificant person, when real heroes fighting to keep us safe never get the acknowledgment they deserve! So what do we need to do to change this?

In honor of all those who have fallen ,my TV is off today to any coverage of this spectacle. Where were all these people who supposedly care for this man who so obviously was in critical need of help?
I hope to teach my children daily who the real heroes in this country are: our servicemen and women, firefighters, those who donate blood etc etc.

Brian Bradshaw is an American hero. Like the million before him since the beginning of this country he is not given the recognition he deserves. He is known to his family and friends and they will mourn him in a respectful manner--not in the disgraceful zoo that is being put on in LA to the tune of $2 million that NO ONE has paid a dime for. The citizens of California are in such dire straights and now there is a $2 million bill that the taxpayers will have to cover.

To Brian Bradshaw's family and friends I send my prayers of comfort. To the 2 men that were killed yesterday morning and the several others wounded in Afganistan attack I also pray for them--the unknown heros.
