GD, if one of your local stations does a consumer advocacy piece see if they have had any complaints against this tow service/driver and add your name to the list. For him to not provide a written receipt shows that this man is committing some sort of scam. Call the IRS and report him and the company for tax evasion. Go ahead and sign up for AAA this week. You never know when you may need their services again. Calling the BBB and the state attorney general are good ideas too.

Oh and GG may just be an old fashioned gentleman who believes in establishing a solid friendship before progressing to the next level.

GD, I am so sorry to hear about this! I hope you have enough time to persue this tow truck jerk, because I'm pretty sure he did not perform according to your state law - is there anyone you know who might be able to help you report and nail this guy???? I like BMM's idea about contacting local law enforcement re: the towing companies on their list of 'preferred vendors' too...

Oh, and maybe GG is just really GG - please give him a chance ;-)

Sorry to hear you had the sucky day GD. I'm surprised it's illegal in California to ride in a vehicle being towed. Most people in this state live by the rule...Laws were made to be broken. It's sad.

GD, it is illegal in the state of florida for him to hsve you ride in the vehicle while he was towing it. If you don't get anywhere with the towing companycontact your local better business bureau. What a shame you had to deal with somebody that doesn't have an ethical business practice. I would also call your local law enforcement and see if this wrecker company is on their wrecker rotation list. If they are that gives you more ammo even though you weren't using this company as a result of a wreck. Law enforcement agencies like to know if they have somebody like this on their wrecker rotation list.

The ironic thin is I was going to sign up for AAA this week since I had started to drive more with the new job. Hadn't yet, though :(
I'm going to look into reporting the guy - just seemed really fishy to me.

Oh GD, sorry you had to go through all that! I guess you don't have something like AAA? I am a member and it has saved me a couple of times. If you pay for the plus membership it gives up to 100 miles towing included in your membership. Definitely report this towing company to the Better Business Bureau and to your State Regulator for Towing Companies. This guy doesn't sound legal especially if he had you riding in your car and he only takes cash (sounds like he is taking it under the table so he doesn't declare it all on his taxes).

GD, I agree with the others that you should call the tow company tomorrow and lodge a complaint. To do that would be totally illegal in Texas and I'm sure anywhere else, as well.

That all sounds a bit dodgy GD. I wonder if you complained, and said you were going to ask questions about being towed with you in your car, would there be any discounts going - but of course, as you say, he didn't give you a receipt and of COURSE didn't accept cards. That was a lot of money. Sorry for your day - I got clamped in the city the other day, running across the road for 2 MINUTES to buy, of all things, cat litter. Yeah well it turned out to be the most expensive bag of litter ever, as I had to pay €80 for the *******s to take it off. It's a license to print money for them. All operated on commission of course. I wish there was more decency about....

Okay he is taking the money and pocketing it. I would bet anything he doesn't turn in that he had a tow at all. You need to call the tow company and report him, and you might want to find out if he charged you properly--I am betting he charged you more and wanted it in cash to use on his little "friend" in the cab!

GD, that is just awful! I have never heard of a person riding in a towed vehicle. I would call and complain and demand reimbursement (worse that can happen is they won't, always worth asking). Did you get a receipt from this jerk?
I hope it's nothing serious with your car.
Now, dry up and warm up with some nice hot cocoa. I'm sorry you've had a bad day. Hugs

The worst part of the towing was when he pulled my car up onto te truck with me in it - almost lost my lunch!
It wa nice and sunny - and HOT! - when I broke down and I was sweating at the side of the road. Then it started pouring and I had to go sit in my car and couldn't open the windows Yuck!

I'm going to text GG later today or tomorrow to see if he can take me home - he works out there on Monday nights, anyway.

Drinks last night were great. It was just th two of us - no brother this time! We met at a pub by this hose so after we shut the place down at 2:00am, I offered him a ride home. He invited me in for a drink and we hung out til 3:30!
It was a nice evening, but I still don't know what the guy wants - other than a longish hug when I left, nothing else happened to show he has any interest in me other than friendship.
He texted me this morning though and told me what a great time he had with me last night :)

Your person that towed you did something illegal in New Mexico. You can not have someone in the car you are towing. I would contact the office that towed you and complain VERY loudly. There is no way you should have been in the car being towed.

That is horrible that the car broke in the rain! Isn't that what always seems to happen? The worst times and weather. Prayers that it is something relatively simple!

Arrrrgh - just back from interesting adventure!
Was going shopping in a nearby town and was in the middle of nowhere when all of a sudden my steering wheel froze and my car started "ding'ing" at me. Pulled to the side of the road. Called XBF for half an hour and he was nowhere to be found, so I had to call a tow truck.
The guy barely spoke any English and was having trouble understanding my directions. Finally got there way later than he was supposed to. Dumb*** brought his wife (or whatever she was) so he told me I had to ride in my car in the back. Yikes! I held on for dear life back there and did not feel safe in the least!
OB told me he dosn't think it's legal to have someone back there in their car getting towed. I've never seen anyone be towed that way, myself!
Anyway, got towed back to the mechanic in my town who of course is closed today. Left the car there for tomorrow.
Stupid driver charged me $115 for the ride (17 miles) and then told me he didn't accept credit cards! I had to walk (it was pouring!) across the street to the bank and get out money from the ATM while he followed me over in his dry truck!
Noone was answering their phones, so I had to walk home 25 minutes in the pouring rain, too :(

I'm going to go see the mechanic tomorrow morning. The driver told me it was a belt so we'll see. Chances are, I won't be able to pay to get it fixed til I get paid on Friday from the new job. As it is, I'm having to take tomorrow off from the new job, as I can't fit that in with the mechanic and no car.
I can take a bus straight to the gym and I'm hoping GG will agree to drive me home tomorrow night, though he mentioned having some car issues himself.
