Amen Eleniki! I've learned there is light at the end of the tunnel... it's getting THROUGH the tunnel to the light that is the hard part. This is an amazing family here!

Such good support here from your TDK family - this site never ceases to amaze me, it's like it has a life of its own. I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties finding the right job Bella, but I firmly believe the reason for these things is that the right job is waiting for you - it's just a little way down the road. Keep your head up, and BELIEVE.

Thanks, everybody. I feel a little better than when I started this thread, and intend to make a fresh start tomorrow. I emailed Lainey, and applied for the job she posted here.

I'm off to bed now, but just wanted to stop back by, read your wonderful advice, and (((TDK))). Thanks everyone.

CW, I read an interesting article awhile back concerning a lawsuit (or some type of legal action) in another state, not GA where the lawyers were advising their homeowners facing foreclosure to ask the mortgage company to send them their original mortgage contract in order to move forward with the foreclosure proceedings. Apparently in that state, it was law that the lender must provide that documentation. Well, it turned out that the banks couldn't locate the original documents in a huge majority of those cases and the home owners were able to stay in the house for up to two years while the lender tried to locate the paperwork. I remember Bank of America was one of the lenders involved...not sure if it would apply here in GA but it's something to investigate Bella.

Bella, I am SO sorry to hear of your troubles. Have you called your mortgage company and explained the situation and that you are looking for a job? If you have equity in the house they will work something out with you. Banks are so overloaded with foreclosures they are letting some people stay in the homes 12 to 18 months before foreclosing! Don't just move out until they tell you to go! Also, many people don't know this...if you are living in the house when the bank has foreclosed your loan and sends a realtor to tell you that the house is now bank owned and you have to leave, ask for CASH FOR KEYS. Tell the Realtor that you will leave the house in broom clean condition for...say $2000. The Realtor will come by on the agreed-upon day and walk through the house and make sure all is well, and hand you the CASH.

Bella it is easy for me to say don't give up, but it is harder to do. I heard about the "great teacher shortage" and decided it was time to live my dream--believe it or not I wanted to be a teacher since age, but with a parent that said "those who can do, those who can't teach" I had given up. Well for a shortage it took 2 years to get a job! It is taking a little longer for Ange. It is a horrid economy, but you are an awesome person and the right job will come. In the meantime let Lainey help you. I know for some government jobs you have to be VERY persistant. Continued prayers for you--I believe in you!

Bella, if you could find some kind of clerical job at a university, would you get a discount on your fees for a degree and get given time to study? That happens here. {{{Bella}}

Bella, I'm so sorry you are going through some bad times. They will get better but I know how extremely discouraging and depressing it is to you right now.

Maybe it would help the next time someone says you have to have a degree you don't have, if you told them you were willing to take a lesser amount of pay while working for them and for your degree. Some employers like the idea of knowing they are having a hand in the training process.

Is it possible you could find an older person who needed someone to live with her? If you had free room and board, but didn't have to be with that person 24 hours a day, you could go back to school part time and maybe even find a part time job.

Maybe your parents know of someone who needs some help to continue living in their own home. Cooking, cleaning, shopping, laundry are all things you have to do anyway. If you can find someone who will give you room & board, you would be being useful and that would help your outlook.

Bella, I hope your family will allow you to keep Lady. Is there any reason you don't think they wouldn't allow her? Lainey has some good suggestions regarding government jobs with this new administration in place, there must be some sort of position out there for you. Also, what do the temp agencies say? This economy is really bad and the competition for jobs is very tough.

I'm so sorry, Bella. Times just suck right now and it has absolutely nothing to do with you or your qualifications. Like Catherine mentioned, the job market in Texas hasn't been hit quite as hard as other areas around the country. Please don't give up hope---before you know it, you'll be at a job that you love and realize that this was just a stepping stone (although painful) to a better time. {{{hugs}}}

Bella, you say everyone wants a bachelor's degree. It is probably just a way to weed out candidates but I wonder -- is it entirely out of the question for you to start part-time studying again? I bet, with your abilities, you would race through a qualification. And doesn't have to be in law -- there might be something else you would excel at and enjoy.

And WWM has a good point. There must be ways to search for jobs in other locations without needing to be there. Maybe you could check that out.

Bella - please email me at work: elaine.archibald at dcma.mil and I will send you some tips for applying for government jobs. You don't have to have a bachelors but you may have to START at a lower grade and there are paralegal jobs all over the place. Also, if you haven't already, set up an account at www.usajobs.gov and post your resume (you can post several resumes and set up job searches). You might also find other jobs that you qualify for that aren't paralegal. I'm not at work now so it won't be till tomorrow sometime. Also, my agency is starting to block some email addresses, so also email me at laineylives at aol dot com.

Don't give up hope! Your family will love and pray for you and you WILL get a job. Have you tried any part time jobs just for some income?

Also, I LOVE positive thinking material (yeah yeah I can dish advice better than take my own!). Go to your library and look for a tape set called Lead the Field by Earl Nightingale. EXCELLENT.

Bella, I am so, so sorry. They are nuts not to have hired you but it is not you, it is the economy. There are no jobs. I have been where you are, more than once, and it's not so long since I spent a year on the dole (our unemployment) when the TV programme I was working on was cancelled. It is so exhausting and so worrying and so depressing being unemployed. BUT YOU ARE NOT YOUR JOB!
Do you have good family and friends where you are? I found that more important than anything. I know I keep saying Kia Kaha, be strong, to everyone but I say it to myself a lot too, it really does help! it is a good mantra! {{{BELLA}}}

I'd move anywhere I could get a job, Lainey. The problem I run into in my field (I'm a paralegal) is that so many jobs want a bachelor's degree, which I don't have. I've applied for federal jobs, only to never hear anything.
