May I recommend that you start a new post so that other TDK members can share their wisdom also.
Of course, you would not want to expose your kitties to any of them as you do not know their infection status. I'm not sure how you could accomplish this but it would be the best if somehow you could get them all into an isolated place in your house.
If you could get the babies, there would be no guarantee Mama would come; so either wait until you win her trust or get her first and then the babies. Oh, I so hope you can work something out.

They are way in a deadly cactus cluster. Twelve Foot high and thick. I'm not sure I can worm my way in there. Also, I have 2 tamed feral cats as pets and I don't want to get them sick. I also was afraid to handle the babies. They look 2 days old or so. Mom hissed halfheartedly at me when I brought the food but then she got up and ate. I have a screened in porch that I could dedicate to them. They are so adorable. Two black and white and one orange:-) If I got the babies would the mom come too on her own or would I have to grab her? I don't want to man handle her. Thank you so much for helping me.

Is there any chance you could bring Mama and babies in and place them in a small quiet room? That would give them all the best chance. Also Mama would be safe from getting pregnant again.
Thanks for caring

My nieghbor has about 50 cats. Some are outdoor cats and my husband and I noticed a nursing mom who looked like a skeleton. We started feeding her...lots! All of the babies died and almost immediately she was pregnant again. She has her 3 kittens in a giant cactus. She let my husband and me pet her a little when we were feeding her during her pregnancy. What should we do for the babies...put out towels or a box? I put out some wet food and kitten baby milk and she ate and drank both. I don't want these kitties to die too. As soon as she has nursed I plan to try to capture the mom and pay to have her spayed. Tell me quick what I can do for these little peeps.

Thanks for the welcome. I have volunteered at a shelter in the past and somehow when the feral moms came in, I was one of the ones they wanted to "present" their babies to while other volunteers were not allowed to go near. I don't know why but I always say that children, cats and dogs gravitate toward me and I am hoping she will too. I am hoping she is not feral and is a domesticated drop off, so it may be a no brainer. I will provide the box also in hopes she will decide to move in with them. Thanks for your feedback so late. If I can get them to the shelter, the "fixing" won't be a problem. I thought enticing her with canned kitten food would also give her a source of water besides the water I will leave for her with the food. I will keep everyone posted as often as possible. Thanks for being here. B

Hi, Bfrybak! Welcome to TDK. Thank you for your willingness to help this poor feral momcat! :)

I've never tried to befriend a feral cat, but I would think that you would not want to inadvertently cause her stress by approaching her too closely. If disturbed enough, she will move her babies. Leaving food out for her (kitten kibble would be best because of the additional demands on her body as she nurses her kittens) and possibly providing a box with an old towel in it for her to shelter is a great idea. You may never be able to get her comfortable with you, but if you can eventually trap her and her kittens you could get them spayed/neutered so they would not contribute to the exploding population of unwanted cats.

Let us know how she does with her babies!

A new Mom and ?? # of kittens have decided to be born within my day lillies next to the entrance of my townhome. Might have been dropped off, might be feral ??? but believe more of a drop off due to the close proximity to my home entrance she decided to give birth. They appeared today and what I can see of Mom, she is very small herself. I will begin to leave food near tomorrow in hopes I can befriend Mom so she will let me see and perhaps rescue the family. Any advice on the best tactics. I thought putting the food close by and speaking softly while being patient might help gain her confidence. ?????
