KK, you'll be pleased to know that the raspberry jam fetish in our family has passed down to the next generation. I was talking to Meegz last night and she had 2 batches of raspberry and cream cheese muffins in the oven. She rang me later to say she had a hot muffin with ice cream and it was the most perfect dessert.
We used to grow our own raspberries and even after jam was made we had raspberries coming out our ears and they were used up as best and any way the could be.

I totally blame Sesame Street and Ernie for my PB and J love. I remember one of the boys at school used to refer to my sandwiches as "blood and guts and camel poop". He didn't know what he was missing (in addition to several brain cells!).

I think the odd mixtures on his work lunch was more due to Mum than Dad actually asking for anything - she tried the odd mixtures with me also eg peanut butter and raisins, leftover onion dip, peanut butter and honey. But I resisted and demanded my peanut butter and raspberry jam!

Couldn't have said it any better KK. I must go down to John's and see if the banana bender is still there. I can't remember Dad having any particular favourite food, he just appreciated whatever was put in front of him. He grew up in an era when food was scarce at times and you were thankful for whatever you got. He did have a liking for odd mixtures on his work lunch sandwiches, but KK will remember them better.
It's been 6 years since Dad passed on and he would have been 94 this year. The girls and I still visit his memorial plaque on occasion especially to take him his red poppy for Anzac Day as he served in the Pacific during WWII.

Our father had a wicked sense of humour and a very inventive mind. He came across as a very quiet, unassuming man but those who knew him were well aware there was a mischievous streak. That's certainly where MS and I get it from - we're just slightly more overt than he was!

Joan, - my apologies - it was actually a banana bender! It was a wooden block with a concave shape carved out of the bottom. Attached was a lever with a concave shaped block suspended from it that would lower into the shape on the bottom block. You would put the banana in the bottom block and lower the top one onto it to 'bend it'. My boss was delighted with it and he used to fool customers when they asked what it was - he told them that curved bananas had more vitamin content.

Dads are great aren't they? I was always a Daddy's Girl :o) It's 13 years since my Dad died, he would have been 78 this year. It's past any proper meal time here, but he was always very partial to biscuits, so I'll have some shortbread perhaps, and dunk them in a mug of hot chocolate in his name {{{Dad}}}

Happy/sad day eh Molly? {{{hugs}}} to you too.

If there's a toolshed over the Rainbow bridge our Dad (MS and I) will be in there inventing something clever for the cats, I'm sure. He once invented a banana straightener as a joke for my boss when I worked in a fruit and vege shop as a student job. I can't think of what my Dad's favourite food would have been - maybe MS can remember better than I can.

Its been a long day. Nothing in particular but everything in general. Not specifically thinking about dad but I know that my mind was off somewhere else. I was more thinking about Hepburn, Parfait, Missy and Binx. Crazy as it sounds I know that my dad was there to welcome them. I was told by a psychic that he is there to help all make the transition into the next world because it was so hard for him to do it. He had a lot of anger at dying as it was an "elective" surgery that he died from. He had an aortic abdominal aneursym. He ended up dying 24 days later from multi organ failure after several strokes. I was at the hospital every day. RIP dad, (08/11/29-04/28/00). Funny how when it comes to our parents we never "grow up", we always miss them. He is hanging out with Joan's dad, being the WalMart greeters of the bridge!

I miss my Dad too Annie (6/30/25-12/29/04). I had an interesting experience the other day. I was watching a Walter Cronkite special about his coverage of the space race of the 60s. (this is hard to describe, but I'll try) As I was watching, I sort of felt out of myself; that it was Dad who seemed to be channeling thru me and watching that footage from all those years ago. I felt such an adrenaline rush as I watched the rockets take off. Dad did classified work for the space program and was quite proud to say he designed the space shuttle nose cone. (He was very quiet after the Challenger accident, and only talked once the source of the accident was found; perhaps worrying that he may have caused it.)

MC, I know your Dad is looking down on you and being very proud of his daughter for your strength and graciousness. My father passed away almost 5 years ago now (10/15/04), I still miss him...he was always there when I needed to talk to him even though I didn't see him as much as I would like. He loved kitties for their "attitude" and their independence. Hope everyone has a great day.

So sorry for your loss, PM! I still have my Dad, thank God. I am sorry for all those whose Dad is gone.

I actually had a step-uncle who shared today as our birthday as well as it was my Godmother/Great Aunt Peg's wedding anniversary. She didn't tell me till I was 30 years of age as she wanted me to enjoy my special day. Today's famous birthday are Hulk Hogan, Steve Wozinak (apple inventor), Jerry Falwell, Mike Douglas (talk show host), Alex Haley and Arlene Dahl. Some of them are not alive anymore.

Kykat, you lunch sounds yummy. I was thinking last night about some girlfriends who wanted to be friends but that I pushed them away. I was young and stupid. Would be nice to have them now to go to lunch, share things with, etc. Oh well, they have their own lives now. Too late to go back as it has been more than 25 years since I last talked to them.

Guess we're all thinking of our Dads today.
KYK, that 60 minute va-ca sounds awesome! A couple of weeks ago, I shut my door on my lunch hour. The wallpaper on my computer is hurricane Charley from the beaches of North Carolina. I popped in a CD that plays ocean sounds and as a nasty t-storm raged outside my window, I read my book. Best part, no one bothered me! Usually, someone taps on the door and it's the usual "I know you're on lunch, but..." lol.

Wow, slow day in the cafe. On Thursday it will be 10 years since my dad died.

I just got back from a 60 minute vacation. Lunch with a friend at a restaurant that has a lush tropical courtyard and fountains. It was lovely to see my friend who in February had moved away. Lunch was Chicken enchilada soup and a fabulous BLT with onion rings. My friend ate most of the o-rings since I am allergic to raw onions. These were cooked enough that I had a couple. BLT's on homebaked sourdough for anyone still hungry!
