My Oreo loves the closet floor beside my computer but alas...so does Amos (our large Coon Hound/mix) and the two of them are constantly playing musical closet and I love the disgusted look on this big dog's face when he comes toddling (he's 12 and slowing) in for a nap and finds this little scrawny cat all curled up on the floor. Hahah...he sits down looks at her...looks at me...drops his head slightly as though to say.."Just when did we redefine man's best friend?" Poor Amos! =(

I always wondered the same thing. Drawers were also a huge attraction for my cat. She was so quick too, if I was lucky I would see the disappearing tail! She would always wait till I was getting ready for work and didn't have time to "argue" with her! I would come home to snagged clothes on the floor, opened shoe boxes, shredded tissue removed from pockets....She would have such fun trashing the closet/drawer for the day. Boy, I sure miss her.

I must pull Winnie out of my closet 3-4 times a day. She manages to get it open even w/out front claws (the foolish last owner had her declawed & then lost her). I made a decision today to leave the door open so she can go in & out. Of course now,she isn't bothering to go in. I guess there's no challenge in an open door.

Misty has always loved dark enclosed spaces, so closets are Misty's idea of heaven. It took her a while to decide which closet would be hers in the new apt. She chose the smaller walk-in where I put winter clothes--the better to shed on. I gave in, and put her Kitty Cup bed in there. She's happy as a clam and stays in there most of the time sleeping. She only comes out to eat, love on me, have brief hiss fights with her little sister and use the box. She loves it! Living with Misty is like living with a sweet gray ghost.

My story is exactly like yours, Linda. If Maverick goes in, I have to get him out and as soon as I do in runs Huddy. Huddy always goes to the back of the closet and I have to step over various and sundry things to get him out of there. Sometimes I just go in the closet and get dressed with the door closed to keep them out. A couple of times they've almost made me late.

Have a great Friday night everyone. I'm off to watch SD. Maybe I'll be back later.

Much love,

I know what you mean, AV, my kits make a dash for the closets as soon as I open them. I'm in a very small apartment, and I always close the doors when I'm done. So, if they are in the closet, they might spend some time in there.
I try to shoo them out as soon as I see them start in, but sometimes I miss them. Sometimes at night, I'll hear a brushing sound, and invariably it's one or the other in the closet wanting to get out. I've even left one in the closet the better part of a day before. Thank goodness he didn't do anything in the closet, though.

.... LOL.... everytime Abby isn't in the room with me (which is rarely), she's either:
1) downstairs eating
2) downstairs in the "box"... or
3) stuck in the closet, because she sneaked in there while I didn't see her, and I always close the door!!!!..... (little monkey)......

We call closets wardrobes over this side of the Atlantic, and all my cats have always loved em. Lolita always slept in one wardrobe or another - I think it's to do with the quiet and the feeling of being safe and secure. My 2 current furbabies don't go as far as sleeping or hiding out in them, yet, but they love to explore those wardrobes!!

Speaking of bathmats..... sorry, completely unrelated, but here it is. I've gotten rid of two bathmats in the last few weeks. From lack of space, I keep a litter box in the bathtub which works really well. Lately, though, if Mi isn't satisfied with the state of the litterbox, he poops on the rug!!!! Then he tries to bury it. Sometimes, I don't know he did something and to to straighten the rug - only to encounter poop. Yuck!!!!!

Sylvester absolutely loves the closet. I sometimes have to leave the door open when I leave for work because he decides to take a nap in there. He likes to drape himself across my shoes (I think he likes to be where he smells a bit of Momma. Mia likes to go in and scratch the door on the inside. I hope she isn't damaging it much. I try to say no but that doesn't stop her from starting to do it.

George likes to hide in hubby's closet, to the point that we put the old bathmat in there when we redid the bathroom. Don't know why, maybe they just like to feel safe and hide from the world sometimes.

I've given up and am leaving the closet door open - the boys love it in there!

When Bobsky was a kitten and we had just moved, I was freaking out one day, because I couldn't find my boy. I finally found him - he was staring at me from the shelf 8 feet in the air inside my walk-in closet! I had no idea he could even get up there!!! He enjoyed it up there for about a month. I put a towel up there for him to lay on. Eventually he got tired of it and moved onto the sleeping under the dresser in there.

I know this sounds like the beginning of a stand up comedy routine, but come on! Ya open the closet door and let one cat in to "investigate" (as if they have NEVER seen the inside before), get it out and the next one sneaks in. Slips to the back of the closet, or the other side. You dig that one out and another, slips in...!

What is your cat closet story?
