... you're absolutely right!.... it's fascinating to me how they can look so calm and "tame".... but they are not domesticated animals, and I really like this preserve, because they go out of their way to make sure the animals live as much as possible "in the wild" as they would normally....... in other words, they don't make pets out of them..... they respect their lifestyle, but make sure they have a safe and secure environment in which to live......they had all sorts of things - a beautiful avaiary (sp?) with owls, hawks, flacons, and other rapters..... a racoon sanctuary... a deer park....a large turtle haven, that WWM would have loved!... a beaver island - really most every kind of animal that would naturally live in those parts of the country..... and they had all kinds of plaques that told each animal's story - many were victums of being hit by cars..... some were "rescues" from people that had found them as babies, and tried to domesticate them, but weren't educated or prepared to raise an exotic or wild animal...... some of the birds were injured from shottings, but had somehow managed to fly far enough away from the shooter, and then were found by a nice person that brought them to the rescue........ it was a very enjoyable day - and of course, Son, who is a MAJOR animal lover, was in "hogs heaven"!.......

heheheh I love lynx and bobcats and cougars too. But Wolves hold my heart. Loving packs of extended family that works together for survival. Yes they can be dangerous but then so cna an elephant or a hippo or a domestic dog if provoked!

They also had bobcats.... also very beautiful!....... MS, if you're still around, I bet that's what Airy saw that day!....... they had a map of the US, that showed the areas of the country where they were, and Calif. was definitely on the list!....... they also showed the difference between a lynx and a bobcat - the bobcat is in the lynx family, but smaller.......

.... Prayers for Mystie, for quick healing......

Hubbs and I had a wonderful day today with Son.....(who leaves tomorrow to go back to UF)..... first we went into town, to have his tires looked at.... turned out he needed FOUR new ones!!!.... but let me say, up here in this little country town, I paid about half of what it cost me the last time we did tires!... these people are so nice, and did it all - tires, allignment, and a good check over..... at least now I won't worry, with him driving back 10 hrs tomorrow!....

... then we drove up to Kingsport TN, (only about an hour north)... there we visited a beautiful little park that has a natural wild life preserve and a really cool planatairum....... we took a barge ride on a beautiful lake, and the lady that drove the barge ride was the "wolf trainer".....she hand raised and bottle fed many of the wolves, and they "know" her like a mamma...... she said "let me see if I can call them for you to hear".... then she let out this howl, that I swear was a real wolf's howl, if I hadn't been standing right there witnessing it..... and sure enough, from across the river, they started howling back!... it was really amazing!!!... then we got to go to the wolf pen, and watch her feed them - I asked her what they ate, and she said "road kill".... this is a state sponsored rescue, so the state road workers that must pick up and dispose of "road kill" will bring the "freshest" ones to the preserves for the wild animals to eat.... when there's not enough of that, she feeds them "zoo" meat - (sadly) ground horse meat!....... really got an education there!......

... just got home a little while ago, and was please to find Abby asleep on the back of the couch, and Cuddles asleep in her "bowl"...... (and Cuddles used her box), so life is good!......

Oh, Ange, please don't worry, I just checked the thread and it sounds like Mystie's going to be fine -- she's just a little rambunctious! I hope she heals extra-fast and then you can stop worrying -- well, I guess you won't ever do that, but not worry quite so much.

GD -- eeek! Is he horrendously rich and do you want a sugar daddy? ;-) Cos if not, then the words, 'I'm sorry, I don't go out with married men' would seem to cover it. What IS he thinking?

Have a great trip to Vegas!
PM, I'm glad Garbo is doing well. (((Garbo and PM)))

I don't remember if I mentioned the guy from the tennis tournament who called out of the blue on Friday? I only ever see the guy that one week a year and all of a sudden, he called and talked about how I do dog-sitting and he may have some dog-sitting for me. Then he mentioned that he has pictures from the tournament that he wants to give me and asked when we can meet. I was speechless and he suggested picking me up for lunch on Sunday. I ended up agreeing.
He called and left a message and cancelled because he had to babysit. I was relieved because something struck me as kind of weird. He called me a few times on Sunday and a couple of times today but I didn't answer.
Then he sent me an email (didn't know he had my email address, but then again, he got access to my pet-sitting page without knowing I pet-sit, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised). The email said he hopes I'm not upset he had to cancel our "mini-date". He asks what I'm doing tomorrow and suggests that he can come over and bring Chinese food and we can have an impromtu picnic - saki optional.

This guy is at least 70 and married! ANd I don't know what the heck he's thinking!!!!
I'm not sure what to do, because I have to see him every year for the tournament so I don't want it to become awkward (well, it already is!). I've always liked the guy, but certainly not in a picnic'ing at my house on a date kind of way!!!!!

Well, I got the cat's food and water situated, packed my clothes and showered and dressed with time to spare. Early this morning when I got the luggage out, Mia came to check things out. When I got out of the shower Mia wanted to cuddle. She was extra loving so it as though she knew I was going somewhere. I was sad to leave them. So here I sit at the airport already missing them.

I'm back from a lovely very long weekend in France (Wednesday - Sunday night). I had a lovely time with my friends and the weather was mostly very good. Walked 4 - 5 miles on Saturday and Sunday, went swimming on Friday (having climbed about 200 feet down the cliffs to get to the beach) so I'm feeling not too naughty, despite having eaten (and drunk) like a queen for most of the time there.

I'll have a small black coffee and a large slice of granary bread with *quick glance round to make sure WWM is nowhere about* salted butter.

I spent Saturday at my mom's house trying to pack and organize for her big move over Labor Day Weekend. I am still planning on being in Chicago for Labor Day and leaving the move itself to the other siblings.

I, my hubby, my two best friends, my sister and a niece worked for 8 hours on Saturday and the house looks like a trainwreck. However there are more boxes packed, closets, cabinets and china hutches emptied and packed, 3 loads of stuff to goodwill and more. Unfortunately since we won't have a moving truck until that weekend everything is still in the house!

Glad to hear you had a successful trip, AV and that the girls are OK.

It is definitely hotter than 75 out there :P so I'm back hiding inside in the air conditioning. Yes, I am a wimp. I did get some errands done, though.

Morning all! well, we made it to the mountains, both cats in tow!..... Cuddles, I have to give the old girl credit, was SO MUCH better than I though she'd be!!!!...... I put her in the stroller carrier (cause it's bigger)..... she had "something" to say for about the first 30 minutes of the trip, but then she calmed down, and (I think) actually enjoyed herself!..... Abby (seasoned traveler that she is).... just curled up in her carrier and purred the trip away in her donut bed...... I opened both carriers so they could get out and stretch if they wanted - Abby never does, only at rest stops when I the car is still and she needs to use her box..... Cuddles got out a few times, but would just stretch and then get back in her carrier (it had her favorite blanket in it)..... she was really good! (I was so glad).... the entire trip took 12 hrs, and then she "investigated" the house once we arrived..... I put her blanket out in the guest room on a chair, and I showed that was her designated "place".... familiar smells with her blanket, and then I sprayed the entire room with Feliway and put the plug in the wall...... this morning when I woke up she was in her "bowl" (blanket on chair)... and greeted me with a nice meow, and then I fed her...... so far so good!..... we'll see how it goes the next two weeks!....

how is everone this morning, I feel like a day in my life was missing, since I wasn't on at all yesturday!.....
