.... my heart too *skipped a beat* when I read this thread's title..... he hasn't posted in a while, so I was worried!...

.. MX, I echo MC, "bless you"...... for taking on this new baby and getting him on the road to good health.... my Abby was a rescue, and had a good foster Mom, but one that was "overwhelmed" after the Charlie, Francis hurricane season.... when she came to me, she was so shy and frightened, and had a spot of ringworm on her "butt"....... I immediately took her to the vet, got some special shampoo for it, and ointment, which I slathered on thick, then I would wrap her in a soft tee shirt of mine, and carry her around in a sling, next to my heart..... it helped her not lick the ointment off, and she really bonded with me...... today, 4 yrs later, she is my velcore, lap cat that MUST be within 5 feet proximity of my at all times!...... AND DON'T I LOVE IT!..

Glad you took him to a vet--you are a good mommy! Hope he continues to improve. And just an afterthought, if it's a HE, he gets neutered, not spayed.

Kudos for getting Tigger the much needed help he needed. *my heart skipped a beat too..whew* It sounds like you've gotten he off to a great start. We use diatomaceous earth for our crew and we found it at a local nursery. It cost approx. 7 dollars for a 1.5 lb. box which lasts a very long time and works quite well. At least it did for us. =)

Sorry for alarming you guys. As for tigger, he had been dewormed twice before I adopted him and they dewormed him yesterday. The foster mother gave him two vaccines. Then when we go back next month he will need to get a stool sample, rabies shot, and we will then talk about spaying. So since he was sick your right ELENIKI he couldn't get any vaccinations. He is doing much better though.
The antibiotics he's on for his cold are doing their job except the fact that he's so fussy when we have to give it to him.

Has Tigger had his first vaccination yet Mel? If not, leave it a week or so, as I have serious reservations about worming, de-flea treatment, anti-biotics PLUS a vaccine. Way too much. So glad to hear he's getting the right treatment.

I looked up the old thread. This is where Catwoman got hers:

http://www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html#anchorfossilshellflour
And here is a link Anncetera posted for more information:
http://www.care2.com/greenliving/all-around-non-toxic-flea-control.html

And here are some more possible suppliers Ann posted, and how much she used:

"The kind used for insect control is food-grade diatomaceous earth. You can get what's called "fossil shell flour" (food grade diatomacous earth) from:

GardenHarvestSupply dot com
Dirtworks dot net
Wolf Creek Ranch1 dot tripod dot com
GHOrganics dot com
Deliciousorganics dot com

"And so forth. You might want to do a google search for "diatomacous earth" "retail". I can't imagine you'd need more than 2-6 lbs; the larger size would be just in case you needed to re-treat or re-apply later (like next year's flea season)."

Good luck!

I think Anncetera orders diatomaceous earth online, but I don't have the link off hand, GA.

(I nearly had a heart attack reading the title to this thread. We have a member whose screen name is Tigger. I thought he was in the hospital. *whew*)

I'm sorry your Tigger has been beset by so many issues, Melixx. I hope he overcomes them quickly and goes on to give you many years of happy experiences. :)

Thank you for taking your baby to the vet. It will give him a great start on a healthy and happy life.

It's probably not all bad that he's older than you thought. That means he'll have a better chance of fighting off whatever germs/virus he may have.

So far as the fleas go - his foster mom may not have realized he had them. One flea can lay hundreds of eggs and they take a couple of days to hatch. Ctenocephalides felix (cat fleas) eggs can postpone their hatching until they find a host.

Try buying some diatomaceous earth (food grade). It's not expensive and it's not toxic. But it does kill fleas and a host of other household pests. If your house has other bugs (cockroaches, ants, etc.) this stuff works on all of them. And it won't hurt your pets or your family.

It's been exactly a week since we adopted him and he already ended up in the hospital. From sneezing, nose discharge, bloody stool, and fleas. At the vet's we explained everything. They gave me an antibiotic for his Upper Respiratory Infection, a first time free dose of Revolution for fleas,a dewormer, and a first check up. He surprisingly did really well for being such a shy and skittish kitten. Then we even found out he is older than the foster mother told us, thanks a lot. When they checked his fur they did find flea dirt too. I'm so upset that the foster mother didn't tell us of all these problems. Thank goodness he's getting better.
