George was named by his previous humans, but it seems to suit him. We kept it partly because George was the name of my husband's older brother and also husband's nephew, neither of whom is alive anymore. I think Mr. K's relatives thought it was a bit weird, but that's OK.

Garbo was so called because she always wanted to be alone, but now she has turned into the most amazing snugglebug. I'll swear there is some Maine Coone in her - she has tufty bits between her claws on big floofy paws, she has curly ear whiskers and tiny floofy tips on her ears.

Pickle definitely suits her name, she is also called Hissy Monster ...

I must start with Taz, who was my solid black cat when I was single. She wasn't named after the cartoon character Taz, rather the marsupial that lives on an island off Australia. She was separated from her mama too young so she needed extra attention. Alas, her true colors showed and she was a terror on 4 paws from the start - one of the most destructive kitties I've ever known. Wouldn't trade her for the world, though. She spent her last years at my parents house, only living to 10 when she was hit by a car. They loved her as much as I and my brother had a real tough time with the loss of her.
Smokie was an elegant black long haired beauty, with a tail that went on forever. She had wisps of grey/white hair; that inspired the name Smokie. She was only 1 1/2 years old when she got into something toxic.
Shaddo thought his shadow was his best friend. So, after tossing a bunch of names around, we realized shadow was the right name for a little grey and white kitten, although we like to spell names just a tad different. (good thing we didn't have kids. I can see it now - "Hi, this is my daughter Kate, spelled Kkaeieate.!)
Jiggs was rescued from a tatoo place, a result of an ad for free maine coon kittens. He was 1 of...a lot of kittens. We couldn't wait to get him out of there. My boss rescued his twin brother. We passed a local watering hole called Jiggs' Tavern, so thats pretty much how he got his name.
Miss Leela -- Miss Leela....
Leela is the last name of a "Futerama" cartoon character. The character's full name is Tarunga Leela, and she has 1 eye. The little black kitten was known as Lacy when we adopted her so if we changed the name, we felt it best to give her a similar sounding name that she would easily learn. Within the first week of her ownership of us under our roof, she attacked me while learning about things that move under covers and knicked me on my upper eyelid, resulting in a black eye. Although she has 2 perfect eyes, she must have wanted her mama to be the one with one eye!

Ok here goes!
Chucky aka prince Charles(My avitar), got his name because our dogs name is Lady Dianna. so we gave him the royal name. But he turned out to be Chucky the killer doll. He lives up to that name! Tonka got her name because she has a motor purr and she's Tonka tough( Had to be to put up with Chucky)! as for Tess(The kitten who was the extra) it just fit her she's called BG more now though as she is the Bathroom Gargoyl aka BG. Nobody is allowed into the bathroom without her and you must turn the faucet on just a little so she can drink from the tap. Azelea got her name because she's always by the azelea bush that still owes me dinner(Long story)
I also had 3 other cats that have gone to the rainbow bridge! One was Noah and he was actually my Moms cat! He was a ferel Kitten that we gave my Mom! she had another cat named Moses and wanted another biblical name! The day we brought him over he was climbing the draps and my Mom kept going NOOOO ahah Nooo ahhh! hence the name Noah! He calmed down and was my Moms companion until the day she past. Noah lived with us for 3 years before he went to the rainbow bridge at almost 20 years! Then there was Trash she was found in a dumpster by a friend of mine, He named her Trash as somebody threw her out with the trash. at the same time we got an all white cat that was deaf from my ex mother in law. she had to get rid of her do to her breathing problems. Her name was Lace but she wouldn't come when called as she couldn't hear you! The squirrels used to chase her, My ex said she's a waste of a cat and the name stuck so we had waste and trash at the same time!

My local animal shelter named Pumpkin, and I never changed it. I named Autumn because she was a calico kitten whose patches reminded me of autumn leaves in all their colors (besides, Rainbow Kitty would haved sounded like something a small child would name a cat :) ). I named Tommy, well, because he's male; I wouldn't do that to all male cats that would ever come into my life, but it just fit Tommy.

Okay I feel my babies more then held up their names.
My babies are full blooded Mainecoon's.

My baby boy King Maximus Grandma's One in a Million

He is very charming and regal in his presentation and when he walks I swear he fluffs himself up and walks waving his fluffy tail. He can lounge anywhere on anything and make you wish you where sitting there. A slow lazy blink, a soft rumbly trill a head bonk or a tilt of my head rub /scrathc my jaw hehe. He is very magnificent to see and I am still waiting for his full coat to grow back in. The grandma's one in a millon is a play my mom has 4 grandaughters and no grandsons but she does now have a grandcatson hehhee. he also loves to snuggle up and cuddle to her as well. If not with me he is with grandma!

My Baby Mystie had quite a few choices and a few changes into her final name. Not sure I told everyone the last change haha that went on her papers

Queen Mystic Blue Skye's grandpa's Soft Spot

Okay when she walks I swear she sashays on her tippy toes with a bounce to her walk. And her blue and white were chosen for her coloring. When I title her Queen I was liek a King needs his Queen though she is a spit fire and keeps max on his toes sometimes she is merciless heheh too heads will roll she meows hehee. Grandpa's Soft Spotis becuase had he not fallen for her max would enver have gotten his Queen.

Our girls named Moonshadow, not sure how they came to give her that name but it suits her perfectly. She just disappears into any shadows cast by the moon and even during the day she will become almost invisible in shadows. That's why she is so successful at hunting, the mice never see her coming.

Lolita was named after Nabokov's Lolita, because she loved men as a kitten. She would squirm in their laps, at the sound of their voices and the smell of them. She didn't react to women in the same way (but she did love her mummy) :-)

Mamma Kitty was named after she had her first litter, and proved to be a wonderful mommy.

C.C. got her name because she was a Calico Cat, but C.C. could also stand for Cuddly Cat, Crazy Cat, or anything else we could think of when she would drive us nuts with her non-stop demands for whatever it was she wanted.

Pepper got her name from her spicy personality. That cat was trouble in a fur coat when she let her mischievous streak run wild. Of course she was a lovable little cuddle-brat much of the time.

My grandmother's cat Taz (the Tasmanian Devil) got his name because he was destruction in a fur coat. If I heard a commotion in another room, all I had to do was yell, "Taz, get out of it!" ('it' being whatever trouble he was into), and here would come Taz trying to act all innocent.

sumi was named for her personality, which she showed right from the beginning. The sumi was an ancient indian tribe of warriors, and sumi is always looking for a scrap, a regular little 'gurrier' (Irish slang for someone looking for trouble, from the french word 'guerre' - war). sumi is also a form of ink used in Japanese calligraphy, and sumi does look as if someone dribbled paint in patchwork mosaic patterns over her. miso's name is more obvious, as she is exactly the brown/black shade of miso, the japanese soya paste used as stock in soup. But still, it took a few weeks before we chose it, as there were many names suggested, which just didn't suit her at all.

I think if the kitty was given a good name to being with they do live up to their names.

Mowgli is crazy, springy, a nutty kitten and he likes to climb stuff, we named him after the little boy in jungle book.

Tommy Tiger got his name when I caught him chewing on a bath towel, he had taken the Tommy Hilfiger tag off and the Tommy part was hanging out of his mouth lol! I dont think it hurts that he has tiger markings either :)

We thought the two brother barn cats we got when I was in the 5th grade were girls so they started out Cali and Baby. We found out they were boys and Cali changed to Calvin and Baby kept his name cuz he was the runt of the litter. Calvin's name ended up fitting him perfectly because he was a cool, dignified cat. Baby, however, grew into 20+ lbs of big dumb loveable cat so his name kinda migrated into Bubba or Bubby.

I'm not sure about Mogley's name... We usually end up calling him Mo, Mo Mo, or Mr. Mo. Those seem to fit him best. He's just a super sweet lil cat that loves to cuddle and play with his dogs :)

YAY! Anlother AMY on here! Whoo hoo! My Molly, well that's funny. I didn't know what to name her. I got a girl's baby book, looked at names and nothing stuck. She had been Zipper, didn't like that. Next family named her Baghera, didn't like that, I wanted something cute like her. So I was naming off names out of the baby book and she looked at me when I said "molly". She turned her head in that precious cute way and I knew. Betty and Wilma were named by a patient of mine. I want catchy names that were a pair. I had originally wanted two boys, who I was going to name Ben and Jerry. Well there were non boys in the litter so I got two girls. Its funny cause the girls have "grown" into Betty and Wilma. I can almost see the cartoon character traits coming out in each of them.

Thanks Amy, you are so right about calicos...I read once that if you win the heart of a calico, it's a big accomplishment! I bet Callie and Ginger could compare notes on their "diva-ness"...

My first two cats are named Boo Boo and Jetta. jetta because she is black (and the vet named her, I couldn't come up with one) and Boo Boo, well, I was hooked on the name to begin with and he was just teeny tiny and just reminded me of a Boo Boo! Steve got Indi for me. Since he didn't want to name her right away, he wanted to see her personality, she gave us her name when she ran around our apartment like it was the Indianaplis 500... thus Indi!

My Jetta, well, she is so shy, if I were to name her today it would be a very quiet, shy, demur name. Not sure what it would be, though! Wait, did I say quiet? LOL Some days she won't shut up!
