I think we need a special thread for these Darwin Award types! </p> <p>When I lived in San Mateo, Ca., we used to receive a freebie local paper that always published the police reports. I remember one where the criminal robbed (or attempted to rob) a store at the local mall and then 'escaped' in their car. The police chased them onto the freeway, but something was wrong with their car and they could only go about 30 mph with smoke billowing from under the hood! Needless to say, they were quickly captured! ;-)</p> <p>I remember another time when it must have been an extremely slow week wrt crime. The funniest is the thief who was in the process of robbing a convenience store, but stopped during the holdup after the worker told him about a special raffle. The robber filled out the raffle form with his real home address. Among the items Hunt told police were stolen included three TVs and three DVD players as well as a half-pound of marijuana and white liquor. </p> <p>Officer D.P. Halloran wrote in his report that someone cut Hunt’s screen door, pulled a piece of wood over a door window and unlocked the back door to gain entry to Hunt’s Legrand Street home. </p> <p>According to police documents, Halloran responded to the home shortly after the break-in was reported Wednesday at 6:42 p.m. </p> <p>Within an hour, Hunt was in handcuffs. </p> <p>According to his arrest report, Hunt called 911 five times after Halloran left the home. </p> <p>“He was yelling, preaching and cussing to the dispatcher,” Halloran wrote in his report.<br /> Hunt was charged with misuse of 911 system and disorderly conduct and given a $1,000 secured bond. </p> <p>Officers have told The Star the 911 call will be released on Friday.
