If you whacked an attacker on the head with a baseball bat, you would inflict pain, suffering, bodily harm (justifiable assault vis'a'vis self-defense or the proper defense of another) and possibly death (Justifiable Homicide vis'a'vis self-defense or the proper defense of another).
