So Stumpie came home this afternoon :) He was so happy! He recognised me right away (thought he might not after so much time), and he hasn't stopped purring yet. He rode on my lap in the car on the way home, just happy to be purring. When we got home I put him in my room, and he first sniffed my chair, then my pc, and then his little stump shot right up and he started purring again wwhen he recognised his old scratching post. You could almost hear the penny drop 'wait a minute, I know this place!' He hasn't left my side since we came home. He's so happy! Will have to come up with a new name though - the child has grown a lot, he now has 1/4 of a tail . . . not just a stump anymore :)

{{{hugs}}} I admire anyone who fosters, I know I simply couldn't do it!

Skyron, the end result was always going to be 1 cat at the shelter and 1 at home with you - and if it comes down to financials then this was the only result. Plus, as others have said, Flower will be easier to home than Stumpie, so everything should work out just fine.

Don't beat yourself up :o)

PS I love the name Stumpie! Picture...?

Skyron I admire you and your mom sooo much for what you've done for Stumpie and Flower. It's no doubt a very difficult but loving thing to give them up. That's how I ended up with my four sibblings as I was so emotionally attached that I chose not to part with any of them and it is very expensive to see to their needs and sometimes we're barely making it month to month so I truly understand that you cannot commit to keeping additional cats. Keep the faith that they will find a wonderful furever home and know that we are very proud of all that you've done for these furrballs. =)

I know, that's why I feel so bad. It's a promise we had made to ourselves about Stumpie a few months ago already. I'm not the only person in the house who is financially responsible for the cats, and I cant afford another kitty. Plain and simple, I can't. But if my mom says she wants Stumpie back, he's going to be her responsibility. I wanted to keep Flower, but I couldn't convince my parents to take her on. Stumpie has a very special place in my mom's heart.

You have done a good job with the fosters. One can tell that you and your family care for all of them.

I do have a question though, you said, 'So a lady from the shelter came to collect her; we explained that as much as we would love to keep Flower, we simply cant afford to keep another cat'...how do you explain to the shelter than that you want Stumpie back? If you used the excuse of not being able to afford another cat such as Flower, but you can afford another cat if its Stumpie, sorry that just seems strange to me.

You did the best you could for Flower so she will have no trouble finding a good home. People want perfect pets, so taking Stumpy back is good. They manage to break our hearts through no fault of their own; Bless you!

Skyron, I think that you're being unduly hard on yourself. You have saved both of these kittens who very probably would have not survived without you. Flower is young and maybe more adoptable than a 4 month (or more) kitten might be. And poor Stumpie has been at the shelter for so long. That's a lot of his kittenhood spent in a small cage.

I can imagine how hard it is to let Flower go, or any kitten that you foster. But you are doing incredible work in your fostering. Much as you might like, you simply can't keep them all.

I'm so happy for Stumpie that he will finally be in a home. And I pray that Flower will go to a happy home, her forever home, very soon.

After a lot of debate, and a lot of tears, my family and I came to the conclusion that Flower must go back to the shelter. I made sure she is worm-free, flea/tick-free, got all her shots, was as fat as a kitten could possibly be (she looks like Mumble the penguin from happy feet . . .). So a lady from the shelter came to collect her; we explained that as much as we would love to keep Flower, we simply cant afford to keep another cat. And then the lady told us that one of my previous foster babies is still at the shelter. He's been there for 4 months now. His name is Stumpie (he only has a stump, no actual tail to speak of). I raised Stumpie from the age of 2 weeks. My whole family agreed with me when his litter went up for adoption that if he didn't find a home, we would all love to have him back (he's quite a character, will put him on catster). So Stumpie is coming back on Saturday. I feel like I've totally betrayed Flower?? It's always so hard to let go of the foster babies if I've really had to fight for to keep them alive; Flower was almost dead when she came to me. They form such a strong bond with me - it's like they know I'm the reason why they are still alive. I'm going to rot in hell for this. It's so messed up. I let one kitty go, just to get another one . . .
