If this Doctor had the military pay for his education, it was for awhile depending on the length of training. Normal enlistment is 3 yrs without extensive training (i.e., 18 months or more), but again it depends on the contract between the military and the person. Everyone there knew him, and he went to the gas station across from that. so they knew him to. Everyone was in shock. They all said he was friendly, and they would chit chat all the time. As a retired soldier, I damn sure wouldn't want some doctor who didn't respect my serving my country and is supposed to be helping me heal while in recovery...sigh. Fox was reporting him dead. Appears he is alive and in custody. They are looking at religious belief as well. I don't buy that. From what I am reading he was a devout Muslim when he entered the military. I don't understand why he would join only to say he is a Muslim and doesn't support the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. His beliefs were the same when he entered the service and he knew we were at odds with both countries. I don't understand--probably because I am trying to make sense of a violent act and there is no sense there. According to a skipe report I saw on the CBS news earlier, Hood has been having increased, internal violence problems - domestic disputes, suicides, assaults, etc. suspected of being associated with the long and frequent deployment of base personnel. More security at the gate won't fix that... they need more cousellors and SWers!!! It has to take a toll! These innocent soldiers were there for last clearance before going to serve our country in Iraq or Afghanistan. They voluntarily joined the Army to serve. And by the cowardly act of this one person, they are dead and their families left shattered. </p> <p>This has absolutely nothing to do with support or non-support of the current administration. This had nothing to do with politics. This had nothing to do with psychosis in our country. This was the cowardly act of one person who had already received unsatisfactory Officer Efficiency Reports. Scary from my end to have a doctor of any type open fire on a military base. It doesn't seem like post traumatic stress syndrome. He earned a bachelors in biochemistry and then went into the military to go to medical school. He was stationed at Walter Reed and had a poor performance rating. He gets moved to Ft. Hood and kills 11 people and wounds 31 others. This is terrifying for anyone on a military base. You normally feel so secure on the base...</p> <p>My prayers are with those that lost a family member or friend, those wounded, and those now traumatized by this wicked act. My heart broke seeing the video of a family that just wanted to get on the base to see if their child was okay in the day care. I can't imagine the pain and fear that is now instilled in the people that witness this event. He said all the casualties took place at the base's Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening.</p> <p>"It's a terrible tragedy. It's stunning," Cone said.</p> <p>A law enforcement official identified the shooting suspect as Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. The official said Hasan, believed to be in his late 30s, was killed after opening fire at the base. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.</p> <p>The official says investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name, or if he changed his name and converted to Islam at some point in his life.</p> <p>Cone said the soldier used two handguns in the attack. It was not clear if the gunman had stopped to reload.</p> <p>A graduation ceremony for soldiers who finished college courses while deployed was going on in an auditorium at the Readiness Center at the time of the shooting, said Sgt.
