If you are really worried about it, I would cover your mouth when changing the litter, wear rubber gloves and wash your hands thoroughly afterward. When I was pregnant I did change the litter, I just made sure I washed up afterwards.

You should get tested too, if you had it before you don't have to worry about it.

hmmm, so your vet can test your cats? I may do that!

I am planing to get pregnant, so I got myself and my cat tested for toxo, we were both negative. The doctor told me if I had it before (6 months or more ago) I don't have to worry about it again because I would be immune.
What I do now is wear gloves and a mask when I clean the litter box, then I wash my hands with the gloves on, take them off wash them again and put some sanitizer on, you can never be too safe.

As long as you wash hands immediately and thoroughly you should be fine... I agree with earlier posts - what is hubbs position on diaper duty?

I agree w/the others...altho, you would think there was added risk if the litter you use throws off alot of dust when cleaning the box.
It sounds as if hubby is in diapers w/that typical male response to litterbox cleaning. :)

Sorry... my first, less-than-charitable thought was, "Does he not plan to change any diapers, either?"

Just wash your hands thoroughly afterwards, and there should be no problem.

LB...as a woman who had a baby 3 years ago and one 10 months ago..I speak from experience..I changed the kitty litter everyday when I was pregnant. I just made sure to wash my hands very well afterward. I have 2 cats and I didn't have a problem. You could even wear gloves if you desired. I was told, unless you plan to eat the feces, you should be safe..lol.

So we are thinking of having a third child and I told my husband about the whole thing about pregnant women not changing the kitty litter. Well he was like I'm not changing the litter you'll have to get rid of them. I'm not sure if he was joking or not, but what are your alls thoughts on this? My cats do not go outside nor do they eat raw meat. Plus you can get this toxo blah blah from mishandling meat, so don't I have just as much risk cooking as cleaning out the litter?
